Resident Evil 7 - PC Performance Thread

Unplayable for me right now. If I play in fullscreen then the game is displayed in a tiny window in the center of my screen and if I do borderless window then it disables HDR which completely washes out the picture.

in the compataility properties for the game launcher try setting it to Disable Display Scaling On High DPI Settings, i had a similar issue with doom on my 4ktv and thats the only thing that would fix it.

game is running nicely for me with everything maxed out except shadows which are on high. I turned them to very high and got 20-30 fps outside lol. with them on high its a silky smooth above 60 fps experience so far.

480 4gb
i7 - 6700k @ 4.2

Yeah that's actually on by default. I fixed it in the end by using the scaling option in the Nvidia control panel.

TAA looks extremely blurry. Ended up going with SMAA and bumping the resolution scale to 1.5. I get solid 60 fps with everything else maxed on a 1070

Everything looks terribly washed out and bright if I don't play in HDR Mode, but I'm playing this on a 1080p monitor without any HDR settings. HDR mode looks better, but is extremely dark. Do they not mean the 4K TV version of HDR?

I just started the game here in Sweden before going to work. 21:9 resolutions do not seem to be supported, like in the demo. 2560x1080 gave me fat pillars on each side, and changing the visible display area did not fix this.

Hoping they will add support eventually.

So I can't get the game to run at all. Gtx980 i54690k. It tries to launch, but it launches in a small window, it gets to splash screen eventually, and then freezes.

Edit: just got it to work finally but it runs in a teeny little window, even when set to full screen. Wtf.

Try changing settings in re7_config.ini

for some odd reason when the game first started it was set to 29hz and wouldn't even display on my monitor unless I ALT tabbed out.

... BT.709 is not HDR. Is that what you're using? HDR mode is under display and is greyed out on my PC monitor. I'll take my downstairs to check out HDR on my TV tomorrow.

Quoting from the OT:

Just to let people know, want to hear more reports before adding it to the OP.

Reflections are still a pixelated mess for me too.

(look at the table)

Performance (45 minutes in):

Nvidia Drivers: 376.09/ Win 10 /16gb ddr4 @ 3100mhz / 1070 / i7 6700k
Everything maxed out / 1440p - sRGB / windowed(fullscreen) / TAA / 90 FOV.

Locked 60, the gpu/cpu aren't even sweating (so far).

The game runs completely smooth on medium settings for me, and then either completely locks up, or chugs to a crawl during important scene transitions. Had the
guy busting out of the wall
moment completely ruined for me because of this. Anyone else had this issue?

It's grayed out?

I have a pretty standard BenQ 144hz G-Sync 1080p monitor and it lets me activate it just fine...

I'm about to try a couple suggestions, but so far the game has booted after multiple attempts into a timy window, restarted my pc and oh great my taskbar is gone, fixes that and bootes the game, it flickers on and off while the "hdr video is playing" message pops on and off on my tv. Turned off hdr in the game and now it wont boot at all. FFS. Never had a problem like this with a pc game.

Port is flawless here so far.

1440p locked to 60fps, everything maxed out. 3930k + original Titan X + 16gb RAM.

Really beautiful game so far, too. Reflections are a pixellated mess, that's true. Haven't tried HDR mode, as I don't have a HDR TV.

To the people playing on 4k HDR setups. AFAIK HDMI doesn't have enough bandwidth for 4k/60/hdr. And in before: but the ps4pro. AMD is a bit cheating with their hdr support on the rx 480. They are using a compressed method (there were some articles about this a couple of months ago) and so is (probably) the pro.

Again i'm not a tech guy and this is something i've read a while ago.

That's super weird and cool if it's legit HDR. The first HDR PC monitors aren't released to the public yet.

HDMI 2.0 allows for 4k/60/HDR.

ALSO, people playing with mouse and keyboard on a T.V. with HDR... Remember that some T.V.s don't have an HDR Game mode so you WILL experience a delay in mouse movement.

Turns out HDR is the problem.

Wanna play at non4k hdr? Nope!

4k HDR? Sure but the game freezes when you change the setting.

I just rebooted for the 10th time and....tiny window!

Guess im playing 1440p with no hdr.

I think I fixed the reflection problem. In your options, choose reflections 'on' instead of 'variable'. My reflections look fine after doing that.

So I disabled HDR in the menu, if I boot the game its a tiny window when set to fullscreen. But if I set to borderless windowed non hdr, it fills the screen and my tv pops up "an hdr vid is playing" even though the game explicitly tells you HDR is only available in full screen.

My conclusion after an hour and a half of trying to play, HDR support is COMPLETELY fucked.

So a bit more tinkering and I've discovered:

If you want hdr, you have to run in 4k.
If you run below 4k with hdr you get a tiny window in the middle of a black screen.

If you want non hdr and you have an hdr tv? Too fucking bad, the game will tell your tv that its running in hdr even when you turn hdr off in the options. This leads to an extremely washed out image.

So basically, if youre using a 4k hdr tv, your ONLY option is to run it at 4k with HDR.

What a piece of shit.

Steam version runs great maxed out (save blur, lens flare & CA) at 1080p 60fps on Win 10, GTX 1060 6GB, i5-6500, 16GB ram.

It started out at 24hz (just like the demo) and it would seem full reflections are still borked (also like the demo :p).

Anyone notice this really wierd ghosting effect on the rubble where
you find Mia‘s purse?
. It's really offputting and I kinda wanna know if a setting is causing it.

EDIT: lol as soon as I post this I found it's HBAO causing it. Goes away on SSAO. Looks like they still got some work to do on this engine.

Also just realized the game wont output surround sound at 4k hdr (and 4k hdr is the only option that works if youre using a 4k hdr display)

So I guess I'm not playing this.

This port is BULLSHIT.

why would you not want to do that? Can't you use the scaling to drop the res for performance? Is it different from the demo?

I guess you can but I'm still not sure you can use 5.1 surround.

The problem is, whenever I change resolution or HDR the game freezes. So ive spent the past 2 hours rebooting and changing settings.

When I walk up to the door with the three dog heads I get significant frame drops. Anyone know why...?

Playing on a 1060.

About an hour in and it runs over 100fps consistently. I'm on an RX480 and i5 3570k @ 4.2

Haven't encountered any drops yet. I have my settings on max except for SSAO and shadows on high. Haven't experienced any crashes yet. So far it seems to be a very good port. I see a good portion of steam reviews are complaining about crashing and performance problems. Not sure what hardware could be at fault. I hope Capcom is working on fixing whatever the problem is for some people.

Interestingly this may be how they are supposed to look as these seem to be SSRs which are filtered in any case.

Crashes seem to happen on Phenoms or NV cards with <=4 GBs of VRAM (960/970/980 mostly). The latter might be fixed by a new driver which should be out today.

I'm getting weird hitches at specific points like that too with a 1060 and a 4.5ghz 2500k. It's not unplayable but it's unusual considering it runs perfect otherwise.

Can't even boot Windows Store version past the splash screen. All the reviews and comments I've seen suggest this is the norm give or take.

Another MS store debacle.

Edit: demo runs fine, and I'm in spec.

So that's whats going on. I cant believe turning HDR off fucks the picture up so much. Ive noticed putting the color space to BT.709 helps a little to darken the picture after forcing it out of HDR mode.

Just want to add that when the WinStore version inevitably crashes it bring you to a nice browser-based reporting form.

And yes, I'd have bought it on Steam if it wasn't a combo with the XB1 version I was choosing between.
