Trying to watch Flying Witch again and finish it off but I just really don't understand it. The voice acting is dull. The timing for comedic/slice of life beats is just totally off. And visually this thing is just hideous. Lots of really weird medium shots that have characters talk off screen, wonky animation, bad face work, and some truly awful character designs. Trying to give this and Amanchu a chance was a mistake. J.C. Staff's production work for 2016 was just a mess.

I think the concept of the show lazily existing at the intersection of the magical world and the normal world was considered appealing enough to forgive the other obvious shortcomings.

The magical stuff usually does okay because it has a stronger topic to cling to, but the intersection with the real world might as well be nonexistent. They aren't really hiding things from the real world and people that become aware of magic just sort of nod and accept it. Those two elements of the show don't really play off each other beyond the setting. When they start to stray from the magic stuff the show also just feels really dry, so it's hard not to see it as a crutch.

Well, if you followed that episode closely, things do finally change for mr. Asshole, but..... Fuck Subaru.

You see, that's actually my biggest problem with re:Zero ironically enough. I get what they were trying to do
making Subaru into the total Deconstruction of a Light Novel Protagonist. My problem was they veered so far into that territory that I just couldn't buy his "redemption arc." Dude was a total fuck up and it broke my suspension of belief that all these characters were suddenly praising him and following him into battle. That and his total mental breakdown being fixed by Rem giving him a peptalk. Like, I like Rem, but fuck that noise.

I like shonen stuff I read the My Hero Academia and World Trigger Manga but the latter is in indefinite hiatus now and the former I got kind of bored of.

Don't know, I like action/adventure stuff. Anything good on Crunchyroll atm? Any recent Mecha show worth watching now?

Hop on the JoJo train if you haven't already.

That's a fair take and, from all I've seen, representative of what's remained in the collective consciousness of the fans. After I typed that, I remembered stuff I'd seen from posted here and there and it really skewed towards the magical (Dog witch, brown witch, fluffy fox, ghost moe, etc.) When I tried to recall something that wasn't centered around all that, all I could remember was them cooking some plant they found on the side of the road and watching some movies.

I still highly recommend checking the MHA anime since it's amazing.

On the mecha side on CR you have Gundam Iron blooded orphans which is excellent.

You could try the Twin star exocist anime and while it isnt on CR Tales of Zestiria the X is amazing and would probably fit your action/adventure demand.

Other then that

Drifters
Blue exorcist
Mob psycho 100

Kuromukuro is a decent mecha show but it's on Netflix.

I take it you saw all the big hitters like JoJo and Mob Psycho 100
(And the biggest hitter Thunderbolt Fantasy)
if not, I'd recommend checking those out.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a sort of crazy over the top battle show, expect manly men giving speeches that last a minute but inworld time is just a couple of seconds. It's all wonderfully drawn in it's own style and so colourful to boot.
Mob Psycho 100 is a brilliant show about a kid with psycho powers and has from last year the best battles. Really top notch animation and a nice bit of comedy thrown in, episode 1 and 2 might not be your cup of tea but episode 3 it's full step ahead.
Thunderbolt Fantasy made me realise I was missing puppets in my life.

Did you Tanaka dimb?
It was okay. Very easy to watch and digest. Humor did not really hit for me and the character relationships were not very fulfilling. Everything and everyone sort of just acquiesces to Tanaka in a way that feels like it puts the character up on a pedestal. In an ideal scenario slice of life stuff has a tendency to wrap around on itself with each skit, but Tanaka's final beat is regularly just this wandering and lazy feeling.

Sad episode. Looks like Ayato is on the right path now, however.

Kunugi a real trooper.

Despite duckroll's proclamations, I'm finding this to be a worse season than the first. There's been a heavier emphasis on the politics side in S2 but the problem is that there's been so many asspulls and contrivances along with a number of players being idiots, that I don't give a fuck.

I don't particularly care about the Turbines but in order for the ending of episode 40 to have happened, they had to set up so much bullshit and idiocy that I'm left in a state of whatever.

It's way better than 00 but you're not wrong. This episode was literally written by Kuroda. Lol.

lolololololololololol

Well that explains that.

I haven't watched it yet but that sounds so amazingly Gundam.

So glad that Ayato and Haruka finally kissed. There was a long build up to that, but I really enjoyed the way their relationship evolved throughout the show.

Meanwhile, Ayato finally turns into a god (or something similar?) and is about to tune the world, I'm guessing he'll somehow find a way to become human again though.

Still need more explained about the Bahbem Foundation though...

Seraph of the End Episode 1 DUB
So pretty strong first episode, and uh, going by the preview.....uhhh highschool setting???

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Jexhius jexhius jexhius.

I got it.

Little Witch Academia should've been about
Prof. Ursula regaining her believing heart, and the students who helped her, a la modern "healing' anime but with a magical school twist.

I fixed the whole thing!

Oxenfree

Anime taught me that I should try to bang my step brother if we're not blood related, game didn't give me the option 3/10

Jokes aside it was on sale for 5 bucks and it was a nice little walking simulator/mystery/talking/
horror
title. It lasted me 4 hours. I liked the characters though it felt like I never went too deep into getting to know them. But I guess the game only gave me as much exposition and discussing your feelings as were necessary considering what's happening throughout the game so I couldn't expect the title to have characters tell me their life story, fears and hopes since they all know each other and exposition would've been weird.

Man that ending...I loved the series but I definitely have a few questions.

Okay that was Ayato at the end right? Even though the haircut looked exactly like Itsuki? Is the fact that both of them were brothers the reason he looks like that?

Also if I understood this correctly, Quon is the biological mother of both Itsuki and Ayato, but also the sister of Maya. The only thing is that Quon didn't age while Maya did. Also Watari is Ayato and Itsuki's father right?

Anyway Ayato and Haruka's relationship took center stage for me, I really enjoyed it. It's very different from the way I expected things to go when the series started. I just...really enjoyed that whole thing.

I finished HxH '99 TV and heres my take on it compared to HxH '11

You should watch '11. Its easy to make the argument that '99 is the better show in most areas, but '99 suffers from being from...1999. Not in the way its made or directed, but that there isn't a remaster or a blu-ray version. With 2011 you won't have to suffer the quality of the sound or video, and you will get more of the story to boot.

Well, you can just watch the original up to Greed Island and then switch to the new series for the rest.
Why does that image look like an out of focus smartphone photo?

That's all of his posts. I think he watches the show on VHS and snapped the screencaps with a polariod camera.

Quon was spirited away shortly after giving birth to Atato and Itsuki. She was probably then spirited forth again relatively recently. The guy in the ending is definitely Ayato, though. He is listed as such in the DVD artbook.

I actually have a bit of a problem remembering exactly what happens in Rah Xephon's ending, because I end up confusing the events of the show and the movie. They are both too similar to each other and too different at the same time.

Yes the TV ending and the movie ending are polar opposites. It's very interesting to see the changes they made in the film to support a totally different outcome.

My read has always been that in the TV series, because everyone was pressuring Ayato to use his powers for -them-, in the end he rejected everyone and remade the world for himself alone. It was the perfect world he wanted and the artificial nature of that perfection is a testament to his power as a god.

In the movie, there are subtle changes all over to Ayato's character. He is less pressured and it is more about him building on his experiences and relationships. Hence at the end of the movie, the choice he made is different and more selfless. He created the world he felt all his loved ones wanted at the expense of himself. He made a paradise he would never set foot into, and Haruka only breaks through the illusion to join him when she dies.

The movie ending is more solemn, but I also feel it works so much better for the runtime of the film because you don't feel like Ayato "cheated" his way to happiness. But for the TV series, sitting through 26 episodes of people wanting to use him, people lying to him, everything being one layer of control over another to try and take advantage of his potential as a god... the choice he went with was fucking cathartic.

Thanks guys. Do you suggest I watch the movie as well?

Also one more question
What was Bahbem's purpose exactly? I know he wanted to retune the world (hence creating the RahXephon system) and that he lived with the Mulians thousands of years ago. Is he a Mulian himself? Sorry if this is a stupid thing that I missed lol.

It's worth watching the movie to simply see a different interpretation of the same story. While RahXephon TV is very much Izubuchi's vision which Kyoda assisted in translating onto screen, I feel the movie is representative of Kyoda's own vision of the same story. But you might not want to watch it right away because most of it is recycled TV footage re-edited in different ways. Might feel boring if you just finished the series.

As for the question..
IIRC, Bahbem was a scientist on Mu back when Mulians lived with humans in the same dimensional space. He was involved in some shit that threw Mu into another dimension, possibly due to early RahXephon tuning experiments, and he got stuck in our dimension. He started up a foundation and used his advanced technology as a basis to acquire great power and wealth over the generations, cloning him, all for the purpose of fixing what he sees as his mistake so the dimensions are reunited again and he can go home.
