Bicycle age

Little picture from today. Made the turn and saw this, but just wasn't feeling a possible tip over at the end of a ride.

I tend to walk them first time around (assuming I'm not in a trail centre). I've had some bad experiences with ones that clearly hadn't been used for a while.

I've come the other way and it's an easier time since it's gravity. However, we had someone on a ride slide out super hard when they're damp and it's sketched me out a bit. Especially on ones like this that aren't just there to help with super damp areas.

The probably we have in this trail is the people doing that kind of trail work are the kind who like to putter around. So if you're more of the kind who like to ride hard and fast a lot of this stuff can be a hinderance. Not the one in my picture, but they'll do things like 2 foot tall log stacks in the middle of a wide open trail or place planks where they're not really needed.

Yay! First exercise for six weeks today. Just an hour on the cross trainer but the back held up OK. No idea if there will be a reaction tomorrow though...

I may be able to get out on the bike in January after all!

In other news: genius.

I need to buy a non-road pump. Trying to fill up mountain bike tires to 20psi is damn near impossible on a road pump. The question is, do I buy one of them fancy digital lezynes.

It's a rainy day so I've been inside all morning looking at bikes online. I've been looking at both 27.5+ and cross/gravel bikes. I have a 5" trail bike and a road bike already that I don't ride enough though. Consumerism sucks but bikes are cool.

I have a gift card for a sports store that I'll use on a pair of Oakleys. Have tried several, but the selection is so huge that I cannot decide on anything. I want to get a pair that's as versatile as possible, that I can use both on the road, in forests, during daylight and when it's dark. Magical glasses, in other words. Any thoughts? I'm thinking about buying something with Prizm lenses for most situations, and then ordering a second, clear pair of lenses for night cycling.

Bollocks to that. I've lost 10 different pairs of glasses and if I was buying those I'm fairly certain I'd be poor by now.

Not convinced they're all that either. Maybe if you're a roadie that has to look good for your cafe stop. :p

The only thing I want from cycling glasses is that they don't fog up when you have to go up a technical climb at walking speed. Haven't found such a pair yet.

Haven't bought any in a long time but I think I have the split jackets that came with multiple lens. I use the rose most of the time. I think the current version might be the racing jacket. Smith is a really under rated brand and most of their pivlock line comes with multiple lens for a better price.

Bolle safety glasses with anti-fog coating. £5 a pair. Clear lenses. No mud gaps. My favourite bike specs. Just don't get the coating wet.

Really? Are you filling fat bike tyres? Because I've never had a problem with my road bike pump for the job.

Sorry, should have clarified it's not the pump itself it's the damn gauge. When the gauge goes up to 140/160 PSI there's very little precision there. Mountain specific pumps go up to like 60psi so the increments are smaller instead of 0-20-40-60.

Look for ones with lens vents.

Oops. Did my heart rate variability today and I'm FUCKED. Yesterday's ride was supposed to be a recovery one but I picked a stupidly hilly route and went at it.

These are the specs I use for mountain biking. Bolle Silium safety glasses. You can get them in clear or smoked. I've had them for £5 a pair but they seem to be around £7 now.

Apart from being well-made (arms and frame are metal), light and cheap these hug my cheekbones nicely so there's very little gap there for mud to flick through into my eyes. And if you scratch them badly or lose them... at that price, so what?

The anti-fog ones work but if you get the coating wet it goes like a gel and needs removing, so I'd recommend the normal ones for biking. In a dry lab I'm sure the anti-fog work fine.

I've had expensive Oakley's before at ten times the price but actually prefer these.

Was that discovery the thing that stopped you from being a Jimmy, or was it after that time you actually met Jimmy on a ride?
True story, a naked Jimmy jumped out of the bushes once when a bunch of us were out mountain biking. This was around 1992 when Savile was at his peak.

See you had me with that story up to the bushes, no Jimmy would get into them and ruin their marginal gains with scratches...

It was most bizarre. His bike was lying on the path. He jumped out naked as the day he was born, saw us and jumped back into the bushes. We could see him hiding as we cycled past.

Maybe he'd shit himself or something.

Just been working out ways of getting to the trailhead at Cwmcarn from the top end of Cwmbran. Should come as no surprise that it's STEEP. lol

You cruse on the Highway with 70 mph till someone slowly passes by on this thing...
Starting from stoplights probably takes a while but after a month you'll look like that:

Don't really have the tools lying around here for that.. Probably would fumble the edges too and cut off a finger :). But maybe i'm going to ask the father of my gf. I think he has the proper saws.

I will wait like jakonovski under this post says. Maybe it will grow on me. Only have the bike since 2 days. Feels just a bit weird compared to my bike before (also a Radon).

Going to grab new Shimano RT76 Brake Discs today and replace these ugly SM-RT56 ones..

I'm currently in the market for an E bike. 850 bucks range. My google fu is telling me that 1500 bucks is range for decent e bikes but I just don't have the funds. Only bikes I'm finding on amazon are these ancheer bikes. Is this basically it for my choices? And has anyone purchased ancheer bikes here by any chance?

You should splurge hard and buy this one. Accept no substitute, this is the sexiest beast out there:

Van Moof's Electrified S, by the way.
