It's a pretty popular chat room and voice chat program, similar to Skype but was created for video gaming. It takes almost zero time to set up and can be accessed from a browser if you don't want to install the program. It allows for voice chat and a message board.

Ha ok so it's live. I'l see what's best. I think just using the comments could be enough.

The admin seems to be shit lol. Y can't post something with many pictures in it..

Wait wait wait.. So it seems i can't share a file directly with Patreon, so i have to give a link.. Buth then anyone can share it lol.. What's the point..

I just saw today the Asylum/Stray Demon Dark Souls painting, and wanted to buy one...then realized it wasn't on the site and saw your post about it being removed by Bandai-Namco :(

Hey Orioto (is that supposed to captalized?),

I quite enjoy your work - you've crafted some very pleasing renderings of characters that are generally difficult to translate from medium to medium. I'm currently looking for someone to paint a promotional poster for my upcoming film; would you being interested in taking a paid commission? I'd rather not post my actual website / email on here (no spammers, please!), so if you're interested I could private message you. I'm a very irregular poster on this forum, so I'm not sure if posting on this thread like this is the correct way of contacting you, but I've never used the private messaging feature of Neogaf so I wasn't sure if my message would get lost in a miasma of bad website design.

I've included some samples of my work to see if this is the type of project you'd be into.

Since you're based in Paris, let me know if you'd prefer to communicate in English or French. I prefer English myself, but I'll work with whatever you find most comfortable.

Cheers!

Hey, well it's better if you pm me i guess yeah :)

Not really decided this week, hard to motivate myself. Sales are lower and lower it's dying i think.

How the hell can i find 150 people every month to buy stuff, and to make a minimum living.. That's insane...

And i somehow feel now that the huge list of sold out stuff is shadowing the new stuff.

Maybe i should just find a job at mcdonalds

1) Glad you made a patreon, that's great.
2) Try doing more modern games that are relevant at the current moment, such as Zelda BOTW?
3) Sites like Twitter and Tumblr are perfect platforms for displaying sketches and progress work of your paintings, and people love to see that. I see that you post loose sketches, but I'd love if you show how you build on top of that, or if you sketch any further.
4) On top of paintings, I'd suggest also focusing on sketches of individual characters in different poses and stuff. Like, for example, a collection of fire starter pokemon on a page, different pokemon trainers and their favorite pokemon, could be lightly colored and on a blank background. Nothing as intense as a painting, but again, not as tightly rendered drawings catch lots of attention on tumblr and twitter, and that stuff makes the rounds.

I'm nowhere near half the artist you are, but this is based on observations and some personal successes on tumblr and stuff. I dunno, some ideas.

2) I do sometimes but mostly my work is about memories. It's not about doing cross promotional work with released games. It's a little weird. And i tend to think people don't buy posters of games they barely played yet :) (I'll do a BotW art anyway soon)

3) I use Twitter and Tumble of course. As for extended wips i did a timelaps for my halo piece and i can ell you people didn't really care for it.

4) Yeah but at some point that's a matter of doing what you want as an artist or doing what works. Sure i can also do pictures of naked women or cute cats ;) I'd like to do more character focused art actually but i don' really find the proper style for it. I'm not really good with characters to begin with. I'd love to do small collections like Olly Moss did but i'm not him. I don't want to do something if it's not really unique and looks like what some other artist would do.

So for the patreon i'm wondering. if i'm giving away my wallpapers here for exemple, how do i put them somewher on internet and link them so it's not just super easy to find everything i do with the adress after that. I mean i have a ftp and an index at the roots so nobody can access the folders but i guess it's super easy to find. Also i'd like stats on how many times things are downloaded but you don't have that on a ftp..

I feel lucky that I'm able to do something for a living that I really enjoy. It's not like that all the time, but it is most of the time. I think the stuff you do is amazing and I really get the impression that you do the things you want to and that's how you get the best out of yourself. There may be something to be said for occasionally doing things that aren't what you want to do so that you are able to do what you want the rest of the time. The trick is to get the balance right, I guess?

In any case, I hope you can find the right way to make this work for you in the long-term.

There might be a way of sharing files in a way that they can only be downloaded once using the URL you send someone, the problem is once you've shared something you have no control over it and where someone might re-share it.

For example: http://www.the-area51.com/2014/07/how-to-create-one-time-download-link.html

Ha you're my second backer i guess :p And a 10$ one! I'm justly making a zip with some of my old wall in 4k. I'll be be giving them progressivity to that pledge.

So yeah, the matter of downloading is directly there. One time download seems complicated of it's for many people ? For now i'm giving it through my free.fr account as they are not huge files. You may have seen the welcome message with all my work for download already.

Should i be worried there is 4$ per month written in green next to my profile when it should be 15... :\ ?

I'm not certain, but I believe that number deducts Patreon fees and some other things, it's not representative of 100% of the pledged amount.

I hope they wait for the paiement to be accepted by the bank or something. The 4$ was 0$ for a while even after you backed.

I don't see how they could take 11$ out of 15 :p

I also hope backers can consult older posts for their pledge.

I really want to buy Japanese Garden. It's so beautiful. I'm wanting to get it as an art print. I also forgot about the Splatoon one. I want that, too. I won't be able to get both at once because I want the biggest ones ($62).

I have had your Super Mario World as my desktop background since it appeared in a Nintendo Power issue a while back. Just bought two prints, you deserve it!

Except for the 2016 bundle that gave me some money (but 23 people paid for the 5 euros only), look at the other walls lately. It's pathetic. Not only people don't give money, but they barely take it even for free. basically, nobody is interested.
When you can't find 200 people to download a wallpaper for free, do you really think you will find enough people to give you money on a monthly basis for everything you do ? Clearly no. And what i do is too varied and not specified. I don't target one precise group, as i do many games with different fans. So people don't like everything i do, so they won't pay for everything with a subscription. And i prefer it that way, or you kinda become slave to your fans. Patreon is a complex beast. It works for people who do a lot of content for a specific group and never stops.

You also have to realize at some point that for exemple here on neogaf, if you look at the answers in my thread. It's mainly a group of what, 5-6 people being nice enough to bump the thread when i post. But realistically, 99% of people on GAF don't give a shit about what i do. This is never encouraging.
FWIW, as someone who doodled when they were younger and only ever produced relatively average artworks, yours are absolutely mind-bogglingly amazing to me!

Looks like Orioto has 4 backers now! The Patreon is gaining momentum!

That backers-only post with the old wallpapers was awesome

5 actually, this is weird how they do not update immediately the stats.. It's written 5 in the admin but 4 on the profile. Anyway that's not crazy lol. I posted about it on my facebook so i'm waiting for a little more! I'll have to promote it for a while anyway.

Been meaning to pop in and say I love your work. I have two framed prints of yours hanging in my office (mario world one with the wiggler and the OoT one in Hyrule field) and use a bunch of others as wallpapers. Mario World one is one of my favorite pieces of art...well ever. For some reason it really grabbed me and I've always really loved it. Really great work!

Feels like forever since I lasted posted in here. Just wanted to chime in and say I'm glad you started a Patreon Orioto, I think financially it's a smart decision considering your situation. It sucks that you aren't getting as much businees. Once I get a real income after I graduate this May, I plan on throwing some money via Patreon your way. All of my (miniscule) paychecks working part time are going towarde tuition/loans atm.

So what are your plans over the next couple of months? Are you still working on that game? You think you can get Kinda Funny to give a shout out for you about your Patreon? Their community is very supportive of people that relate to Kinda Funny.

I'm not going to ask Tim Getty for a a patreon shout out i guess cause i don't like to ask too much. i already asked for my handle to appear on screen sometimes (which seems normal). I'll see how things work. I'm going to push patreon on every feed and with every new art anyway.

Now that i'm in, i'll hove to fight for it. if it works it could really make a difference in my life. And good luck with your small paychecks to, we both know it's not easy :)

I'm actually wondering about that. I'll work on it tomorrow night.

I least i know i want grass!

My vote goes to the iconic Link-jumping-off-horse-shooting-bow-at-robot from the intro trailer. I think it would be awesome to see that from the side, as if you were to see it as a bystander!

It's pretty advanced already but won't be finished before tomorrow or Sunday i think. And posted publicly next week. I posted many wips already!

It's cool. I can wait.

For art prints, do I get one to match the size of the print? Or is there extra to the print and I need a bigger frame? The biggest art print is 24x32 I think.

Cool. So I just gotta get a frame the same size as the print is listed. I'm gonna have to take your advice and get the Splatoon one first. I think it'd look great in my living room.

Also, it always makes me sad when I see a piece you made hasn't sold one. Feel like there are so many people in the world you'd think you could sell out faster.

Edit: Though that'd suck for me if you ran out of what I wanted. Lol.

Just in case wait to see it before you buy the frame :p But it should be ok!

Don't worry almost no one has sold zero actually, but i don't update the title with the number left before there are at least 5 to 10 sold

Coming back to talk a bit about RedBubble customer service...

Some may remember that I received a metal print with a bump on it (probably done during packing).

I contacted them, and I must say I'm impressed, they were as nice as Orioto has told me, and more. They asked for a picture of the damage, then promptly printed and sent a replacement. They were so fast that I actually felt bad for not replying their inquiries as fast.

I received the replacement yesterday, it's great, and reached the others on the wall. So happy ^_^

Now, I have to decide on the next one(s)... My flat is looking more and more like an Orioto's gallery, I'll probably run out of wall space ^_^ (I have in the room where I work). I'll try to post pictures when the place is more... tidy.

About Patreon, nice to see it working a bit. I'll think about joining too. I'm not that interested, but if I can spare some €, I'll gladly show some support. Although for the moment, I'm more into buying your art...

Which means it's on my redbubble to actually, every week it'll be there before being publicly released

Mhh, i'd say small frame type (the first one), pure white background, but that's just me :)
