Phil Spencer on Phantom Dust HD release- "Should ship before E3"

This merely being a port with the original assets being untouched has been known. As I said in another thread, quit calling it HD or HD version because I'm certain it's causing some of the confusion. I have no idea why some of ya'll don't stick to the facts available and instead create narratives of how this means something else setting yourself up for disappointment, eg. Backward compatibility, HD Resolution, etc... It's the same thing some people are doing with Scorpio by already setting expectations on things we have no idea about, and not sticking to what facts we have.

Good news.

Just keep those expectations in check fellow gaffers.

Well sites got it wrong too. I remember watching Shannon Loftis video last year when it was posted here and all the info was there.

I can See a Huge Backlash coming!!! No way its just a port.

Unless stated otherwise, it's a port but with updated network functionality.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
I can't wait. This is one of those all time great games that flew totally under the radar of most folks. It was so ahead of its time in a lot of ways and a joy to play especially against other players who had built some crazy decks. It felt like what a Hunter X Hunter game would play with some characters focusing on flying and long range and homing attacks or others who turned up their defense and used short range melee attacks. All the different crazy combinations like abilities that changed how the entire arena worked like switching the gravity and other things. Such a crazy fun and creative game.

As stated by theory above , sites are reporting it as a remaster or remake. This is where all the confusion will come from. and you know people will latch onto it, cause scalebound happened.

From the Shannon Loftis who greenlit the port.

That tweet is from June 2016, a lot can change (or not) during 8 months dev time.

don't think so, since it is aiming for a Win 10 release

if are the same assets tho, it maybe be a treatment like how Rare did Grabbed by the ghoulies in RareReplay which is a port with same assets running at 1080p in Xbox One
For what it's worth, the results in Grabbed by the Ghoulies was pretty acceptable.

As a pre-E3 release, we'll find out soon

People are pretending like the Crash Bandicoot remake looks good and that the original was a good game. So i'd say this has a chance.

I really hope this isn't only 480p, loved the game on Xbox but no strong desire to just replay it without any real graphic improvements

I mean you have your answer here (Already timestamped at the question and answer)

This is true, but it's pointless speculating when no additional information has been made.

I honestly think MS had no choice but to develop it ASAP. After cancelling the remake, the Phantom Dust HD fiasco was leaving a negative vibe from fans and gamers. It wouldn't surprise me, if they are going to let somebody else handle Scalebound internally, so they can wowo us and say "we haven't forgotten about our Xbox gamers". Shows some goodwill as well as keeping their brand name in convo's

What in the world? Scalebound is dead. Let it go.

480p would be hilarious, but it's not like I'd skip the chance to conveniently play Phantom Dust in 2017 over it. The original supported widescreen, so here's hoping this will support arbitrary 16:9 resolutions. If not, at least be 2x in each direction like PS2-on-PS4 or something.

Yeah that video is pretty definitive. I heard that in headline snippet form a while ago but didn't want to believe it, lol.

Very odd, but oh well.

Not even HD? What a shitshow... No wonder that checklist of updates feels like it's saying nothing.

The least Spencer could have done is correct the guy asking the question when he called it Phantom Dust HD.

Is that denial or bargaining? Can't tell.

I'd still buy this even at 480p as long as it has those updated network/multiplayer features. Assuming they don't price it outrageously of course.

Its 480p...?

😐
Don't you realize you will see every game in 1080p as your output right?

Not being American, it pains me to spell realised with a z. :(
I wonder if this could be the start of Xbox backwards compatibility on Xbox One? They've done fantastic work with the 360 games and Spencer said last year that he wanted this to happen so maybe it's an E3 thing?

This release having balance tweaks make me think that it's a little too specialized to be the start of a broad original Xbox game support move, but I'd love to be wrong.

Never played the original and, tbh this doesn't really look like my kind of thing, but the cult like status has me curious..

If its a decent price, i'll probably give it a go

Voodoo Vince, another game from the OG library that's getting similar treatment I loved back in the day and really can't wait for!

Price = $29.99 then goes on Week of e3 sale for half off at $14.99. (USD)

TAKE YA BETS!

I don't think it'll be above $20.

The new game got cancelled. This is a port of the 2004 game, with some nice-sounding mechanical tweaks.

No way it's 480p.

That would be an absolutely terrible decision. I can understand not wanting to give a graphical update (though her excuse is lame as hell too), but you release a xbox port in this state you might as well cancel it right away.

Oh fuck, you were right. That's just emulation, the hell?

It would be less ridiculous if the Xbox One had component out so I could hook it up to my PVM and play at 480i/p.

Upscaling from SD really isn't my favorite thing in the world. Especially on PC. What the fuck is that?

Or you can take people at the word when they tell you it's going to be at the original resolution. A lot of people never played Phantom Dust, and despite preferring a remaster or remake, would still be interested in a port.

Honest question, wha was so good about this game that some want to see it make some form of a return? Never played the original.

I'm just happy I get to play this game again without having to plug in my 360.

I just hope it doesn't cost very much...

Making it gwg would be great IMO, assuming the costs weren't too much to port this.
