The Metal Thread |OT2| All Riffs, No Gifs

That is silly, Metal does not have to adhere to any belief, that is like saying "wow, Christian Metal, who would have thunk of that" it is a narrow-minded point of view. Even more narrow-minded to assume that you cannot enjoy metal if you are a conservative

There are unfortunately a bunch of douchebags representing metal who hold stupid beliefs, James Hetfield being one of them. Does not make their music any less pure

I know conservatives can be into metal, one of my best friends from college is very conservative and very much into metal. I've always just viewed rock music in general to be a big fuck you to the man. I love Pantera and am well aware of their more conservative southern values, even if I don't always agree it doesn't stop me from enjoying the music.

I hear you. Yeah more often than not that is the case, but even then, if your rock/metal song is one thing, conservative will still try to make it theirs, hell one of the most famous cases here is Born in The USA by Bruce Springsteen

Christian metal is indeed rubbish though :)

Eh, bands who loosely define themselves as such just by featuring themes in lyrical content are not that terrible, I have heard some really stupid shit though, does feel out of place when it is forced.

I enjoy a bunch of stuff from bands like Tourniquet and Seventh Angel, and Stryper had some choice cuts as well

I forgot about Pantera, never mind.

Is there such a thing as Liberal Metal and Republican Metal?
The new Kreator album is pretty liberal I guess. Even has a song dedicated to defeating homophobia
It's getting too expensive to go see some of these big bands these days.
Agreed, the 103 was also before fees, ended up being like $120 total, then on top of that I paid $60-70 for Mastodon a week ago. Both worthwhile but that right there is near $200 gone.
But money well spent I'd say.

Mille seems like a pretty progressive dude, he is a vegan right? Buy yeah the new Kreator shreds! fans of German thrash should also pick up Assassin's effort from last year, shades of Testament creep in there, it is a pretty great high energy album too

Honestly love love love the new album, thinking about buying two vinyl copies, one regular for listening and a second white and red one for framing. "Lion with Eagle Wings" "World War Now" "Fallen Brother" and "Satan is Real" are my favorites. Will definitely check out Assassin's stuff though.

That sounds like a great song.

It is, honestly didn't think I'd ever hear a metal song speaking about homophobia (especially positively) even metaphorically, but he straight up says "defeat homophobia" and I think that was fucking awesome.

So for never having heard of ayreon before but knowing virtually all of the guest vocalists (and being a huge prog metal guy); Fuck yes that track was awesome. Hyped for that cd.

You should check out is other stuff, then. All his albums are basically a grand parade of the prog metal who-is-who.

I mean it seems to be from the same people who decried the other songs.

To be fair that first song they released was dogshit, the rest of the album is much better

Fuck

There are some toss aways in the release, I always wish for 8 song albums, with 10+ you are asking for some stinkers, mostly just lyric wise stuff like "What Doesn't Kill Me Makes Me Stronger" ventures into too much gang shout territory, but it is still a fun album, would be an energetic show to see them

Hope you guys don't mind the promotion, but a bud of mine released his album this month for his band Solarus, and I thought I'd share. It's in the power metal genre, very close to the band Borealis (who's
lead singer is featured in some of the songs).

It was a passion project of his so I wanted to spread the word here a little bit.
Did not expect those vocals! I dig it though. Solid tunes.

Ah, gotcha. Guess I'll give it another chance then. Modern Kreator has been really boring to me though. Last one I really liked was Violent Revolution. I mean I didn't hate Enemy of God or whatever, but I still don't really care that much, and Hordes of Chaos just had too much filler.

I might be biased simply because the last two times I saw them live, they bored the shit out of me. Or maybe because they were completely eclipsed by the far superior performance of their co-headliners (Overkill and Accept, respectively)...

Great cut from the new album

Slave of Time
Haha, I was expecting some shrieking Priest-like vocals, the song sounded straight out of Painkiller until the vocals kicked in.

Yeah modern Kreator has been inconsistent, Violent Revolution is damn good though that is one of the best examples of thrash in the 21st century to me.

Last time I saw Kreator the openers were shit so they were good comparably, but damn hard to top Overkill on the bill.

In regards to Assassin, their new singer is not very distinctive at all, but I like his addition to the band more than what Robert Gonnella brought

Bitanator every time I see your avatar I hear "TORTURED SKUUUUUUUUUULL" in my head, which makes it the greatest avatar of all time.

Haha, I hear Sheepdog's insane banshee scream at the end of Speed Merchants. So much to love from the album, been my favorite thrash album for many years

Kreator have been awesome the last couple of times I've seen them and am really looking forward to them again at the end of Feb, not had chance to listen to the new album yet though, I thought that Satan is real song was awful but as always I'll go in with an open mind, I've enjoyed Enemy of God and Phantom Antichrist not so much Hordes of Chaos.

You know I hate bringing up politics into music threads let alone on gaming forums but in this case I need to respond.

I really don't think most you fully understand what conservativism really means. It's simply preserving traditional values and leaving big government out of our lives. Problem is many allow religion to dictate what these values mean. Also before some tries to mis-interpret what "traditional values" means and tries to twist it into some sort of racism bullshit, it simply means the nuclear family and pursuing the American dream.

I am so disheartened by seeing how much support Trump gets from both metal artists and the thousands of comments of Blabbermouth.net

I though Metal was always about sticking to the man, and no one out there wants to stick it to you more than Trump.

Maybe I'm just gullible.

ummm.........You realize that "the man" equals government. The conservatives want to shrink government not increase it like the liberals do.

I've never understood how you could be a metalhead and be very conservative. Most of my friends into metal are fairly liberal and I've always viewed metal and rock for the most part to lean towards more liberal values.

Anyways new Mastodon sounds great and their new album is easily my anticipated of the year.

Also got Iron Maiden and Ghost tickets to see them in June in the Twin Cities, haven't seen either live before so I'm pretty excited about that.

Please...

Music is universally appealing to everyone.
