LoL Pro Faker Signs Up For Twitch, Immediately Breaks Record (245k concurrent)

It was 43 million.

But let's say it was 400 million, over a BILLION people watched the 2014 world cup finals, and I still don't expect those who don't follow soccer to know who are considered to be the best players.

It's not insane that some of us don't know who Faker is.
i hope most people here know who messi is at least

That's a lot of people...But I have no idea who the guy is...kudos to him though! Nobody would ever watch me play a video game, so good for him

I feel that i need to make it known that i knew who faker was despite never ever having watched a complete lol-game.

Just to balance things out.

no? At least in a proper context, LoL is league of legends for actual millions of people

Ask someone random who doesn't play games. It could also be because i'm 35 and you're 18. I'm sure there are slightly more people in your generation that might know what LoL is and to an even lesser extent who Faker is.

who? (might be the response from most americans tbh) heh

Sometimes I forget how much of a bubble GAF really is.

Is it a bubble because some people don't know who he is, or is it a bubble because people think everyone should know who he is? I have the impression you mean the former, but the latter makes more sense to me considering how many people in the general public are bound to know him.

For anyone who doesn't know Faker, his mechanics are sublime. Insanely quick reaction time and able to juggle multiple ability and buff cooldowns in his mind to pull off immensely complex plays and make them look effortless. There are plenty of videos and GIFs that I can post to demonstrate his skill (and I will link to the one someone referenced earlier in this thread, Faker vs. Ryu), but honestly if you don't play League or DOTA, it's just going to look like gibberish or just look like a dude killing another dude. It's understanding the nuance and mechanics behind the play that make it insanely impressive.

The reason it's a big deal that he's on Twitch now is that most of the Korean and Chinese pro teams have been locked in long-term exclusive streaming contracts with Asian services like Azubu or Afreeca that have large viewership overseas, but little to no exposure worldwide. Faker being on Twitch is going to do insane numbers, and he will likely make more from streaming than his already rather lucrative contract with SKT T1.

No bald cap? Lies!
That's pretty remarkable. That said I truly do not understand the appeal of MOBAs, let alone why they dominate eSports and Twitch. Like I get fighting games, not that I find that at all enjoyable to watch. Same for certain Shooters, but yeah on the whole watching other people play games is boring as fuck.

I also don't really care for traditional sports either. I'd rather be playing them than watching.

Ive never heard of the guy. But then again I play and watch DOTA 2 and not LoL so that is probably why.

Good for him though.

I freely admit that when I watch a video like that it looks like someone playing Diablo to me. haha

Same reason watching sports in fun. Watching super high level play of almost any game is fun if you know how the game works. Not everyone's cup of tea of course.

uhhh, hate to break it to you, but Flash > BoxeR lol.

What? BoxeR had the second most Daum followers back in the day, including all kinds of celebrities. He had enough influence that the army allowed for players to continue playing (they even created a team for him and the others) while serving their mandatory service.

haven't watched dota in a while, is sumail still really good? What happened to dendi
Dendi is always good but he is lumped with a bunch of dead weight all the time in Na'Vi. Still gets a ton of viewers when he streams.

Sumail is still that good, but I think the gap isn't as wide as it once was. W33haa is also an excellent mid player, for example.

That's awesome for him. I'll definitely check it out.

But because it's LoL, I won't have any understanding of what I'm watching. Most confusing game to watch ever :)

I remember they once made a superteam in league with like a bunch of crazy good players and they crashed and burned during the regular season lol

Any similar super teams in dota right now and how are they doing?

I know the korean players thay play Street Fighter and Tekken and such but never heard of this guy. I don't really follow League much though.

Korean players have crazy hot groupies but usually they're not allowed to do anything with them because it's against the rules, gotta keep training and not think about earthly desires

The most recent attempt was Team Secret. It was basically formed of some of the best players in their respective roles and, for a while, they did very well. Then, whether it was egos or personality clashes, they fell apart. There was a couple more iterations that also did well but the same thing happened. Now they are a fairly mediocre team that has some flashes of brilliance.

Funnily enough some of the most successful teams right now, DC and OG come to mind, were cast offs from other team's roster changes. Which is cool.

To be fair, I'm not convinced Faker has any earthly desires other than absolute domination of professional League. He is absolutely stone-faced in pretty much every interview I see him in, he has turned down offers from Chinese teams with insane signing bonuses because he feels a strong allegiance to SKT T1 for discovering him from solo queue and giving him a chance, and he just seems like a pure League machine.
