Value of Hammel deal with #Royals, per @JeffPassan, is $16M over two years.

Baseball almost here my friends! Mass confusion in the Caribbean World Series due to a three team tie. Mexico dominating again. Le sigh

I'm so sorry about the football, RBH.

On to baseball! New stadiums, better Barves, there's a dawn after every darkness, unless you're dead.

They needed to do more backwards names on TBS. Sure, you could see Bob Horner hit 4 bombs against the Expos, but no one in that booth would try to say Andres Galarraga backwards.

PECOTA apparently projects Bucs to win 81 games and USA Today says 80.

Sounds about right tbh.

Club officially announced that Marte would take over center field.

Guys....WE ARE SO CLOSE! *pats butt of every MLB Gaffer*

times like this i'm glad i'm NPB gaf

Yankees sign Chris Carter for one year $3M. 41 homers last year.

yup as long as you only look at his homeruns he sounds like a good signing.

don't look at any other stat though. (well I guess the rbis are decently inflated due to the home runs)

he is an all or nothing guy, and 95% of the time you will wish that someone else was up to bat instead of him.

My Padres projected for 70 wins?

Seems kinda optimistic.

white sox are projected for 76 wins.

sounds about right. they lost sale but are scheduled to have a lot of young pitching talent come up.
and they lost eaton but the guy they traded sale for should be at second base before the year is done and tim anderson will have a full year at short.

as it stands they shouldn't really be much worse than last year.

which... is dumb.

there is no reason for half of the team to still be here right now. they should have traded a number of players already, but I suppose they are hoping for good first halves from most of them and a solid return at the deadline or something.

Everybody misjudged how the FA 1B/DH power hitters would play out this off season. I've heard some media types use the collusion word, but it's probably just teams having more faith in younger players instead of overpaying for older sluggers.

Some teams benefited from this misjudgement of market. Others most definitely did not. Blue Jays did not. Losing Encarnacion is a kick in the nuts. Chris Carter will make as much as Smoak. It's all nuts.

Chris Carter is basically a RH Adam Dunn. Teams are finally looking at full value now instead of just sexy stats. 10 years ago, Chris Carter would have been making mega money.

carter is nothing like adam dunn. dunn was a walk machine, which always kept his obp super high. he was a fantastic offensive player, he just gave most of it back defensively. carter is home runs and literally nothing else. good value for 3m though.

So I'm thinking of a possible pitching rotation for the Dodgers for the start of the season.

Kershaw, Hill, Maeda, McCarthy, and Kazmir

I wonder what's going to happen with Hyun-Jin Ryu.

Bullpen-wise it's tough to figure out if it has become better during the offseason. Keeping Jansen is a plus. Not sure what to make of Romo considering the problems he faced in San Francisco. Although I can say he can be much better than Chris Hatcher was.

for a team projected to win so much that is a really really crappy rotation.

one true ace.
a solid number 2/3 in maeda

and then a guy that likely won't pitch over 100 innings in hill
and two replacement level pitchers in mcCarthy and Kazmir

as for Hyun-Jin Ryu I imagine you keep him around for when hill gets hurt or mccarthy or kazmir suck it up?

To say Carter is "nothing like Adam Dunn" is hyperbole to the extreme. Of course they aren't exactly alike, but they are very similar.

The major difference is that Dunn actually got on base. A true 3 outcome player. Carter is either a HR or an out. If he actually got on base at an above average clip, he'd be a lot more valuable. That's the difference between EE and other power hitters.

In terms of health no it's not a great lineup. I also forgot about Julio Urias.

well saying carter is "basically a RH adam dunn" is way beyond hyperbole. dunn was a .900+ ops guy until he hit his 30's. carter is .777 for his career. they aren't comparable just because they hit dingers and K a lot. one was a great hitter, one is a slightly above average hitter.

Exactly.

Finally. We agree on something.

Our starting rotation sucks.

Romo in 8th inning, then Jansen.

Marte & Polanco will play for the DR

@JeffPassan
A runner starting on 2B in extra innings? It's happening in the minors and could in MLB, too. News at Yahoo Sports

this is some dumb shit & what i meant when i said MLB hates baseball.

if you think games are too long then just allow ties.
