Another game where I don't get to play, simply because our mid didn't really want to do much of anything. He ended up barely doing more damage than Nami.

TF was just everywhere, he was nowhere.

oh wtf you were against tobias fate

he's been playing TF again a lot, was watching him earlier, he's so clean on tf
Yeah he was pretty good that game, but his acc looks weird. Hardstuck D5, with 600 games.

Speaking of stuck in D5, I guess that's my situation. Can I get some VOD reviews :^).

he'd been playing a lot of weird shit looks like prior to going back to GP and then TF. idk haven't followed him too closely, I thought he was typically challenger level

He had some internet problems for a while and then decayed hard while he was switching ISPs. Playing stupid shit like Trynd mid surely didn't help.

it's more so you don't get matched against people that know how to play (sort of) and have an absolutely miserable time getting destroyed over and over while still trying to figure out things

also make sure to drop by the gaf clan so you can start identifying the kind of people you have to avoid playing with as soon as possible

Shit that's how I learnt to play though. My irl friends were gold when I started playing so I just got matched up against Golds constantly lul

Annie Bot doesn't get that many viewers from what I've seen. Also I'd chalk both Annie Bot and Tobias Fate's popularity up to a combination of personality and luck. By duo-ing with Qtpie, at least, I think people became aware of Annie Bot's stream and that helped him get new viewers. Probably the same with Tobias Fate (though I don't know for sure).

I swear normal games are a better warm up than Flex queue. I've never played with/against such bad players then when I play Flex.

The one I've never understood is Annie bot. He's a little higher elo, but he one tricks a pretty lame champ and isn't really entertaining.
is he not challenger atm? he usually is..

but yeah it's more about personality usuly and he's got a pretty good one

Looks like one my guesses for the tank rework was right. I wanna see how many more I was right about.

Malphite (just confirmed to not be in the class update on reddit by Riot, he was a likely candidate but as time went on they realized the scope of work necessary was beyond roster update sort of stuff)
Maokai
Nautilus
Poppy
Sejuani (correct)
Volibear (not looking likely though since he's on the full rework list)

On Malphite

We discussed Malphite early and even prototyped some gameplay for him. In the end we realized he needed a lot more work then we could provide in a roster update, so we passed on him. His ult also already makes him pretty distinct We want to do it right and give him a full VGU one day in the future.

What Riot is gonna do to sejuani?

From the Sejuani post in the dev corner board, there's going to be 3 big reworks (Talon/Kat scope) and a few minor adjustments elsewhere, and potential item changes. They want each tank to feel like they're tanking damage in a different way. It's not spelled out explicitly, but I assume they want more stuff like Tahm's grey health shield as opposed to dumb shields like Naut's W or straight up stat buffs like Rammus' W.

What Riot is gonna do to sejuani?

Remove power from her ult. Use that power to refine her identity as a "barbarian warlord". They want her to feel like she's actually leading the charge for her allies. They seem to imply a supportive aspect. Make her non-ult abilities more impactful and more interactive beyond you'll deal damage if in range.

That Sejuani post has me excised.

I feel like putting more power into her base kite can make her a viable top. (right now she seems like Vi ... in that if you can land all your shit you can fight someone in lane but otherwise you suck in lane. WW Rework makes him far more of a viable top IMO because of how they changed his kite's power points)

Hoping that's the case ... cause I would love to use the 3 Sejuani skins I have in my loot box (Traditional Sejuani, Snowday Sejuani, Mother Russia Sejuani). Also happy to hear that they wanna ramp up the CC/ def parts of tanks.

I think the other 2 champs will be ... Nautilus and Skarner.

just played a 52 min game.

we could of won but our jungler had "lag issues" most of the game.

Also we all kept chasing.

I also decided to start banning MF. Kha is strong but a mf is worse.

I can't imagine it'll be Skarner. They already said after his latest botched rework that he needs something on the level of a full VGU because lots of things in his kit need to be totally re-evaluated. Speaking of the devil, every time I play Skarner I'm dumbstruck that his win rates aren't any lower than they are. I really don't get it. I'm going with the guess that his ridiculous synergy with certain items (well..item: Trinity Force) are the only things keeping him afloat.

no one posted this but i think it's pretty interesting: http://nexus.leagueoflegends.com/2017/02/dev-on-the-champs-of-2016/

thoughts:

jhin - i think they nailed it with jhin, even if he has issues (which from the article it seems they're agreeing on). he's a really great addition to the roster when they find the way to fine tune him so he doesn't crowd every other adc out

---

aurelion sol - i think it's very telling that the jhin part was all about how the community received him, while asol's has no mention of the community whatsoever. i don't think they have the greatest of reads with aurelion sol, imo it's not the passive that's boring about him, it's everything else. every spell in his kit is a complete turn off for me as a mage player, there's nothing that feels 'fun' about him. the concept of his passive is really cool to me and i like champions that feel unique, i wish the rest of his kit was worthy of that passive

i also find his visuals and personality didn't resonate with the community (it certainly didn't with me) nearly as much as the original concept. overall a big let down

---

taliyah - here i think riot really downplayed their own role in taliyah's rise and demise in pro play. i mean, they buffed pretty much everything about her only to nerf pretty much everything about her in the next patch lol. like 50% damage on minions on her q in one patch, then removed like two patches later. that's not really an issue with her being stronger in competitive, that's just very knee jerk balancing. i think the nerfs were understandable cos it's better for her not to be permaban at worlds than being picked at all, but lol those buffs were dumb. right now she feels fairly ok tho she probably could use some small solo q oriented buffs, but i think they were quick to change from the terrible original w casting paradigm to the much improved new one, and i don't see her kit being impossible to balance

overall taliyah was my favorite champion of 2016, i like her visual design and personality and themes, i really like her abilities and her kit overall and i like how her kit has so many different applications while being relatively simple and easy to understand. like, big wall, don't get shoved into rocks, don't get rocks in your face. no lame three hit passive or strange movement speed boosts or anything, just a fun, fair combo to execute and a great roaming ability to do lots of awesome stuff

---

kled - i kind of like kled, i think his ult is really funny to have in your team and i think he's generally just funny to see running around murdering everyone, but his passive feels kind of gimmicky for me and not really something that's super easy and clear to play around like gnar's passive. he has a really high winrate while no one ever plays him, so it doesn't feel like he was a big hit with the community. imo his kit lacks a basic ability that just feels good to use, the way taliyah has q or we combo, or jhin has w, or just his basic attacks. this is an issue with aurelion sol, also, i think

---

inven - i like his design and i like the goofy abilities they went for. i wish his ganking pattern had more counterplay tho, for all his uniqueness he kind of does the lee sin thing of just walking at you, applying an aoe slow and then shooting his skillshot pointblank when you can't dodge it. i wonder if he'll be viable once he stops being op, right now his winrate is absurd for a kit as weird as his

i do approve rito going batshit crazy with visuals and kits, and exploring new types of champions in the jungle (or wherever), and i think inven is way more successful at it than kindred

---

camille - i think camille is like the extreme opposite to aurelion sol, she feels great to play and looks slick af and is definitely targeted at those 1v1 me bro kinds of people, but i think they've done this to a fault. they set out to make another irelia and they succeeded, but i don't know why anyone would do that in the first place. i dislike champions that feel like they have all of the control of every engage and that's exactly what she is, she has tools for everything and a crazy long range dash to make everything happen whenever she wants and not any other time. she's banned like every game so basically nobody wants to play against a champion like this. she's op but it's not just a strength thing, her kit is just frustrating by design and i feel that was really misguided and strange to see, which is a shame considering she's really fun to play and i really like the idea of her ult even if instead of being "a pretty sharp counter to those dashy champs that will never sit still", it's just another kind of cc to make the life of squishies more miserable. every spell tooltip is like 3 paragraphs long, every ability has two uses and even still his kit is really basic and uninteresting. it's satisfying to use, but so is taliyah's and her kit is much simpler and transparent

overall i'm really disappointed that camille was released in the state she did. definitely the worst champion in the year and one that's gonna be hard for people to get over. she's just a jerk and the game has more than enough of those already. the reception to camille should be a big hint for riot that people just don't like these kinds of champions. it's weird, cos kled is also kind of a jerk and imo shares many issues with camille, but i guess riot reigned it in just enough that people were ok with it. probably a good case study in how to design jerk champions

---

overall i think this kind of post is pretty good even if i don't agree with everything they say. i think 2016 kind of lost to 2015 in community darlings (jhin vs ekko, kindred and bard), but it probably did better for niche players (inven, asol, kled and taliyah vs illaoi and bard, kinda). i got two mages in 2016 so i'm expecting none in 2017 (rip), and one of them was great, so i can't complain much. i'm mostly disappointed by how lame aurelion sol is and with camille, just kind of everything about her lol

good post tho, very glad riot's doing these

He's reliable and well rounded, even if there are oddities to his kit. On demand stun, consistent damage output, natural tankiness and mobility, and he doesn't really fall off. You get in there and you hit stuff. Decent neutral objective control too with the pillar mechanic even if it's kind of weird.

I hope, seriously, Sejuani doesnt end like Sona

Sej Q that dragged both allies and enemies with her would be pretty cool and would make for some really fun gameplay.

Can you call a stun that requires you to land a follow-up auto-attack "on demand", or are you referring to his ult? I'm not sure what exactly they did in his rework but I really dislike it. It's easy for me to say it's the spires because it's so obvious but I think it's something else. My biggest problem is that for a champion that is supposed to hit a big level 6 spike for ganking (Noc, Rengar, Vi, Warwick) it doesn't feel like it.

I often feel like winning with him is more a matter of my team making it to the 25 min mark well enough so I can start to scale like a raid boss and seal the win as opposed to winning at the 25 min because I was able to influence the result positively. I don't feel like I have agency playing him, essentially.

I hope, seriously, Sejuani doesnt end like Sona

They want to add counter-play to tanks and even noted, in the past and even in the new Sej thread, that Sion's kit is the path forward. So no, definitely not Sona.

Thresh Prince and buys Ancient coin on Thresh? wtf?

and he doesn't even complete it....

I tend to buy it on him since consistently proccing shield with him is a nightmare, coin leads into a pretty useful active ability if you need better initiation/escape, and it also allows me to focus beter on harassing/zoning. It might be suboptimal, but the lack of execute on Thresh means last-hitting cannon minions with his puny E-empoweerd autoattack and no ad-boosting items is quite a chore.
