Winter Anime 2017 |OT| John Wick cleaning up KyoAni's mess

Oh lord just noticed the thread title.

Thank you, John Wick.

First Trigger tried to save the mess KyoAni made last season, then KyoAni tried to save the mess Trigger made this season and now Wick is just killing everyone and cleansing us. Studio Deen is just a mob character who's yelling out good ideas, but nobody listen's to what the mob character's say.

So much hyperbole about AoT S2. What people don't realize is that after the first 10 eps or so, they don't even really need animators anymore. Radio drama series until the end. S3 is when shit actually happens again lol.

They'll just be talking a lesson of out SHAFT's playbook by shooting all the long dialogue scenes from about a mile away so you don't even have to animate the lip-flaps.
I like Turn-A a lot conceptually, and the soundtrack and art design are amazing. But overall as a series... I like 0080, G-Gundam, Wing, SEED, 00 S1, GBF, Thunderbolt and IBO more.

Hard to describe my disgust right now, to be honest.

Another episode centred around Yotaro's growth as a performer and a person, this time focusing on what makes him so different from second generation and Yakumo. Honestly, seeing him perform so exceptionally well after skipping his own introduction and looking as though he was going to come apart several times was just perfect for who he is. Next week looks excellent though, with film being found of second generation's performance. Looks great.

Ninja Girl 20
A nice cap to a crazy night, a light and breezy few minutes. More people should really check this out at this point.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Wing's a good show. I think people tend to hate on it because it was on Cartoon Network and was a casual's gateway to Gundam. But honestly, it's pretty good!

Why don't you go in the corner over there and play with blocks.

thunderbolt bothers you more then wing on that list?

I honestly haven't watched Wing, or SEED, or much of IBO so I can't slam him for those, even if they're probably all trash shows, I just don't know for sure.

At least Gundam 00 S2 wasn't on that list, but I guess battle-damaged Exia would hit a little too close to home for Duckroll...

Deen is truly saving anime. Amazing episode. That Sakuga when Kazuma was sniping!

You ain't lived until you too want to see wufei and treize hatefuck

I don't think I have ever hated main leads as much as Heero and Releena. They are like robots programmed to act human, except they both had many fatal errors and didn't reboot

Seriously the dumbest mother fuckers in the world

T-Rex.

Prisma Ilya's actually kind of weird. I don't care at all about most of it, but when it morphed into a story about altShirou I read everything related to that and then dropped it after that arc was over.

I actually picked up the anime at the altShirou part hoping it would be all cool and sakuga but it was a disappointing adaptation of that sequence.

Honestly, if Hiroyama just made that a manga by itself I'd be on board.
Yup, same here. Hopefully the movie's good.

Being flawed is being human. When society expects too much of us, our response is to project what we think people want to see. It makes us robotic. Heero and Relena are like two ships at sea, with their navigational systems disabled, wandering lost until they find each other. It's a beautiful story of humanity and trust, expressed by the most awkward of people. Their struggle to cling on to who they are and define what they could be is also the story of humanity's history with war, a tragedy that is both beautiful and melancholic.

every time i watched gundam wing i just got progressively more pissed off

whatever episode it was where Releena yells to the sky "WHERE ARE YOU HEERO I'M WAITING FOR YOU TO COME AND KILL ME" made me go outside and pace around for a while to calm down

True art is meant to provoke. They don't just tell us stories or provide satisfaction we expect. They invoke emotions in us which we might not like, and make us confront our own feelings. They make us question, doubt, and judge. They bring out the worst in us, so we can discover the best in us.

Wing is really just a show for watching cool-looking robots wreck shit while the characters inside the robots talk about dumb shit.

I mean, yeah it's super preachy and dramatic about war and crap, but if anything that makes it more fun when you consider the mecha designs.

Speaking of Mecha anime, I just finished Full Metal Panic The Second Raid. About to start my rewatch of Fumoffu.

Watching the first and the second seasons of Full Metal Panic back to back is hilarious. The first season is kind of clean, kind of standard mecha action, and The Second Raid feels like it could be set in the same universe as Black Lagoon.

Maturity, bitches.
John Wick?

Also, who really cares if you can recommend an anime to general audiences? That's hardly a good measurement of how good a show is.

Yar, I can't say I'm fond of that. And hearing that the later story goes even further into that direction, I can't get excited for the upcoming Invisible Victory.

I like to talk about things I like with my friends and it's kinda a bummer when I can't due to some off-putting content.

All this talk about Maidragon and nobody mentioned this posthumous career milestone for Delacroix:

Assuming this is the first time a sanitised reference to his work has appeared juxtaposed with a boob window in a pervo late-night anime, anyway. Something about the fact that the bare breasts of the original painting needed to be covered to feature in this show, right next to a piece of clothing designed specifically to reveal boob flesh made me laugh out loud when I saw it.

Sometimes the unintentional jokes are the best ones.

You shouldn't be ashamed to talk about media you like with people you care for.

It's not about shame, it's about mutual appreciation. I'm not going to bring up Wizard Barristers to most of my friends because I know they won't like it at all. They're not interested in talking about action animation or the intrigue of fucked up TV broadcast anime being fixed in BD releases. I won't waste their time with it, and I won't waste my own time trying to convinced people to like something they don't. That's why I have you people. :p

Oh the other hand I can talk about Sword of the Stranger knowing that anyone who appreciates a good action movie would probably like it.

Almost no one I know cares about sakuga or about directors/animators, I certainly can't talk to them about any of that stuff. Maybe only 2 people I know IRL even know what I'm talking about and care. I know how you feel.

One of them, even though they're a really well versed and indepth Gundam fan (yes, one of THOSE who knows some Japanese), still likes SEED/SEED Destiny for some reason and I'm mystified why.

As far as I can tell, no-one is making an argument that a shows' quality is tied into what kind of audience would enjoy it.

However, I do think people care whether or not they can recommend an anime to others.

1. Most people like to share things they enjoy with their friends and family.

2. Anime is often something that is difficult to share with people for a variety of reasons.

3. Therefore when an anime comes along that seems like its ripe for sharing with others (especially something a with a fairly sweet family vibe) this is a positive thing for many people.

4. Unfortunately there's a long trackrecord of these apparently 'innocent' works eventually featuring material that is definitely not family friendly. This is seen as a betrayal of the implicit (unspoken) promise that people could recommend the show to others. This happens again and again.

5. Up until this weeks episode, Dragon Maid was basically 'safe' material. Yes, hosannainexcelsis has rightly brought up that there was some 'questionable' material before but I don't think it was very egregious (although obviously your mileage may vary depending on your tolerances).

6. Therefore, people aren't thrilled with this development.

One of the best ways to gauge if something is like that is to read whatever it's adapted from/look at a synopsis of later plot elements.

In this case, it's not really a story you can 'spoil.'

For example, later in the story a character is introduced which looks like a small girl but with breasts bigger than Lucoa's and wearing just a cloak and a thong.

I don't feel like that's wholly relevant to what's under discussion. We're discussing the amine,

Source material, while clearly relevant to some degree, is not a determining factor in how the anime plays out.

The people adapting the anime can chose to keep, remove, or significantly alter material as they see fit.

KyoAni, have a track record of removing/altering 'questionable' content from the source material they adapt.

I must admit, the Kanna-Riko stuff is creepy.

Other than that Dragon Maid is still 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I see where you're coming from. I never take it for granted that an anime series will be 'cleaned up' from the source material. Sometimes, that's even a bad thing.

I think these days, though, people would probably throw a hissy fit if they edited out the twister sequence from Maidragon 6.

They're actually a lot better in Endless Waltz.

In fact, Endless Waltz is one of the best Gundam shows period.

I must admit, the Kanna-Riko stuff is creepy.

Other than that Dragon Maid is still

Kanna-Riko is the only thing that throws me off about Dragon Maid. I'd say I wish they'd tone that part of the show down since they're kids, but I've already seen my Twitter explode with OMG GAY KID DRAGONZ so clearly I'm in the minority.

not having watched the latest episode yet, riko is hilarious because they cut away from lingering on her reaction shots to kanna almost immediately.

i'm assuming that changes in this episode
