New Kingdom Hearts III Olympus Gameplay Screenshot

Interesting that the Ex gauge has been replaced by Focus. I assume Sora's sticking with drive forms/summons still instead of shotlock.

Not sure how I feel about the idea of each Keyblade having its own drive form if that's what we're seeing, though. I'm down for Keyblades having a full set of their own passive abilities but I feel like the fundamental gameplay systems really ought to feel the same.

No it's not because that implies they haven't worked on anything else during that time.

KH3 is the TENTH game in the series.
Yes it is considering they revealed the game like 4 years ago. And I never said or implied they are just sitting around doing nothing so you're putting words in my mouth.

Doesn't matter if it's the 10th I made it clear that's it's been over a decade since the last mainline game which is unacceptable

No, it's been that time since the last numbered game. Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance are both mainline games.

Splitting hairs but you're technically right I guess. To me those are portable spin-offs they released to buy time for 3. But facts are facts i suppose.

Point still stands that we are not getting enough info and it's ok for people to complain

All the people defending the fact that we're not seeing this game for another year at best need to explain to me what exactly is so complex about the Kingdom Hearts games that this game needs a 5-7 year dev cycle. These aren't RPGs with huge interactivity, NPCs, sidequests etc; they're honestly glorified brawlers, running from room to room and killing whatever is in that room. They're using a pre-made engine for this game as well. What, exactly, is so mind-blowing about this game that it's gonna take longer to make than Skyrim, or Witcher 3?

It's a Nomura game, he lives in a different timeline than the rest of us

It's the first time the Osaka Team is making a HD game (sad I know) and even though they are using UE4 they still need experience working with it.

The simple answer is that Nomura takes on too many projects at once. Along with KH3 he was also working on FFXV before he was taken off the project and he's also working on the FFVII remake. I wouldn't be surprised if we learn about more games he's working on before we see another trailer for KH3.

I really respect his work ethic but the guy needs to learn not to bite off more than he can chew.

Its probably an attack by the heartless. The rock is most likely fading away.

The problem isn`t just the rocks tho, that low res texture in the heartless weapon doesn`t make sense, I don`t think lack of memory is a reasonable excuse nowadays, maybe it`s a loading issue in the rendering pipeline.

I`m at the risk of being too hyperbolic, but this could mean the engine is still not optimized enough for a fully realized real time demonstration.

1. The Osaka team (KH3 development team) is transitioning from making 3DS/PSP level games to a PS4 game with huge open environments and mostly entirely new assets that they can no longer easily reuse and must make from the ground up or majorly rework for current-gen. That's a quantum leap. And makes their case quite different to experienced modern console game developers.

2. They switched from Luminous engine to Unreal 4 after close to 2 years of work. That would have set them back majorly.

We are getting multiple KH3 announcements this winter (so before the end of next month, probably on the series 15th anniversary) which will almost certainly come in the form of a trailer so I doubt that...

It has not been a decade since Dream Drop Distance, which was the last mainline game.

I mean you can think that those games are spinoffs but if you haven't played them you are going to be completely out of the loop come KH3

Why, Nomura? why?

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
The visuals still look wrong, sterile and strangely basic in some areas. Even a minor detail like the character portrait really looks odd.

So basically, they're getting a B-team to work on one of their blockbusters, and general Square 'we keep building shit and then tearing it down 'cause we can't plan ahead to save our lives' shenanigans.

Well I wouldn't call them a B-team since they are the best and only option as the KH team from the PS2 days is largely gone from the company (though some staff from those days still works on KH) and this is the internal team that's been making KH for a decade.

The only internal team with modern AAA home console development experience SE had when KH3 started development was the XIII team, and at that time they were still busy with the XIII trilogy (and wouldn't be used for KH anyway). So this team was the only internal option for this blockbuster...

The fact that the only people available for this job is this team still speaks volumes of where Square is as a developer. The transition to HD development has not been kind to them, and they're still floundering a decade later.

Yeah, doesn't reall look like a KH game and more like someone tried to build a KH game in UE.

Yeah, it looks like a fan-made game. I know that Square are an incompetent developer these days but I genuinely think the PS2 remasters look more appealing than this. Everything has that weird Unreal sheen and Sora looks completely dead-eyed.

I completely agree. If we don't get a release date and new world announcements, then the game will release likely in 2020 or something like that.

I agree as well. I firmly believe in an early-2018 release date but if they we go another E3 without anything substantial then it ain't happening.

This sucks honestly, as I used to be a massive fan of the series. The wait has been so long, that all my excitement about KH3 is more or less gone. I'm hopeful new world announcements will get me hyped again but unless I know I can play this within the next year or so, I doubt I will remain hyped.
