I just realized every Alien-related movie I've ever seen in the cinema has sucked, and that's everything except the first 3 movies.

Hopes not high.

If you liked Chappie, then you will probably like Elysium too, its about on par with it. I never got the hate really, while they are not great like District 9 was, they are still alright action / Sci-Fi movies, there are certainly worse movies out there. Its the typical case of people on the internet having no middle ground, if its not great, its total shit.

If he does get to make his Alien movie, Ridley Scott was going to produce it, so between them, I'm sure they could come up with something half decent.

Well said - I didn't get the hate at all honestly, even if they were nowhere near as good as D9. Thanks for selling me on Elysium, I'll give it a watch sometime.

Here's hoping Neill gets to bring his vision of Alien to the big screen.

USCMS Covenant

I'm foggy/sketchy on the acronym there. I see the Weyland logo (still not Weyland Yutani yet, I guess?)

Is that United States Colonial Marine Service or something like that?

I don't see anything special here. Seems like it's just rehashing everything from the previous movies. At least prometheus had a good premise even though the movie was absolute trash.

I am still afraid that this movie has tons of silly new Xenomorph variants who outdo the original Xeno :/ They have already teased one :/

The Sulaco was USS. If it was a Colonial Marine ship, I'd think they'd go with that. There's no telling what Ridley and the wine came up with this go around, so who knows. The Nostromo and the Prometheus were USCSS, so I think we know what the "C" stands for:
Commercial
. Maybe for this it's US Colonization Mission Ship?

Edit: I forgot to add, the regular Colonial Marine abbreviation on the patches was just USCM. There may have been one patch with USCMC, but I'd have to double check. Either way, in the movie it's routinely called the Colonial Marine Corps.

Edit 2: Yep, all the patches just say USCM or US Colonial Marines.

It's WeyYu. I guess they merged between movies.

Thanks guys!

Can't fucking wait for this! I hated Prometheus when I saw it opening night but it's aged like a fine wine and now stands as one of my favorite science-fiction films ever made. The fact that it's an Alien prequel is just icing on the cake but it still works on its own as well.

I have a feeling Covenant is going to be what Prometheus was sold as but ended up not being, a fucking horror movie just like the original. That's exciting as hell as the first Alien film is in my top five films of all-time. The sequels are OK but nothing has come close to the original yet imo and think Covenant just might.

Hope this next trailer is better than the last though. It was surprisingly uninteresting considering the movie they're selling. Come on Fox, let's Logan trailer this bitch! Add some Johnny Cash if you have too. Let's get the people as pumped as they should be.

They already did that. This trailer is set to Nature Boy by David Bowie.

It didn't work.

No, that's different. That first trailer falls in the "old-classic-sung-by-drugged-out-hippie-chick-singing-in-slow-motion" category. And those are played the fuck out. All I'm saying is this new trailer needs to give you the vibe of the film, just like the Logan trailer did, Cash or no Cash.

Just watched the trailer. Looks like a retread of alien. Seems like there is very little world building but who knows. That's honestly what made Prometheus interesting. Would have loved to see the continuation of a disembodied David and roomie tracking back to the architects home world. Is that still supposed to happen?

The planet that they land on is the Engineer homeplanet. The crashed ship that they discover in the trailer is the one that Shaw flew off in with David, who is the sole survivor of the Prometheus crew.

Ridley wants to make a whole series of prequels, so that's still a possibility...if Covenant does well enough.

That would be cool. You're not just making shit up are you?

I think it was stated in multiple press releases that the synopsis involved the Covenant crew ending up on "paradise" which is the Engineer homeplanet but strangely derelict. They're supposed to come across David at some point in the story who I assume is no longer a detached head.

Some of the set pictures that were caught show what looked like the race of engineer people frozen in some statue-like state, almost like what happened to the people of Pompeii. So you can probably assume that there was some scientific catastrophe that resulted in the death of the populace and spread of the alien spore pods around the planet's ecosystem.
