Nintendo flirted with a Hyrule Wars game, alien invasions, and Biker Link before BOTW

Who says an alien invasion game means it's not also a Fantasy/Medieval game? Watching the two mix together is the selling point of an alien invasion Zelda for me.

It could still be a fantasy/medieval setting?

It's Fantasy/Medieval - but in the classic sense for the most part.

They've been dabbling with ancient, near alien, technology in Zelda games since Majora's Mask. Every game since then has increased that techs appearance more and more until we finally have literal robots roaming Hyrule and cryostasis chambers. Zelda hasn't been pure fantasy for a long time, only in some occasions. It's been a mix of fantasy and sci-fi elements.

It's still purely classic Fantasy/Medieval - but they add little sci-fi elements to it. An alien invasion storyline would literally make it a "Cowboys VS Aliens" type of setting and I guess that just rubs me the wrong way lol

That's so cool! Link on a chopper, guitar on his back, cigar in his mouth. Gannon some punk rock hacker, and Zelda in the special forces, brought together to repel the strange alien force of space pirates led by Mother Brain!

Make it happen!

Somebody at Nintendo is really into this sci-fi spin on Zelda lore.

Zelda 1 was actually supposed to be more sci-fi.
If you have Hyrule Historia you can take a look at it yourself in the pages they show designs for Princess Zelda in Zelda 1

Lmao, that fucking Link with the jeans. GROOVY

I swear I had a dream (nightmare?) once as a kid where I was playing a OoT style game, but the Link I was controlling ran around this thick giant forest enveloped in red mist with tiny little UFO's chasing him and slowly draining his health with lasers with no way out. Just because of that I kind of want see that actually get made

Yeah I've seen it. It's interesting that bit endured all those years, hidden away in the recesses of Miyamoto's mind (I assume). Up until Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask the lore was purely supernatural. Then ever since WW introduced some sci-fi elements it has gone progressively more and more into that direction, culminating in the strangeness that is BotW. I wonder if all that high tech stuff is even explained.

Maturity, bitches.
This is why I always laugh when people ask for a serious Zelda. The team behind them have always been crazy and even their more serious titles are actually filled with nutball ideas.

I need Metallica Ganondorf as a SSB costume.

Imagine the outrage if this is what they came to you with instead of BotW.

You thought the reaction to Federation Force was bad...Guitar Hyrule Hero, or biker Link...
I think with this, some of the Fire Emblem ideas (Fire Emblem set on Mars?) we can only conclude all Nintendo IPs have these insane ideas behind the scenes it's just rarely are they ever unleashed resulting in things like Tingle's Rosey Rupeeland or Captain Rainbow.

i'm all for some bonkers ass zelda concept getting off the ground but when/if that time comes i hope they don't develop it internally. not a knock on nintendo but i could see them going total shadow the hedgehog despite good intentions

I'd be way more interested in biker Link roaming about dispensing field justice than anything from Botw. Forget the cyclical evil stuff. Biking culture and milk bars.

they don't really need to explain shit IMO.
FF1 had a fucking airship for no goddamn reason after all.
It was just always there and it's some old "lost civilisation" that is more advanced trope.
It works as long as you don't explain it.

I just shared this with my brother, and he's gone off on creating a whole Cyberpunk version of Zelda after seeing three screenshots and some prodding from me.

I hate to admit it, but it is pretty damn brilliant.

Airships are just fantastical stuff, besides you can clearly see the helixes and the sails. ;) I guess since it's been part of FF from the start it doesn't faze me one bit.

Zelda getting robots, tablets, computers, AI companions (Fi) and whatnot is just more out there for me.

I kind of think the implication is that the gods - and those closest to them - are technological in some way.

So what they're saying is this engine could also be used for Metroid?

Advanced 20th Century spacesuit, fights with sword and shield.

That sword better shoot laser beams.

They should make this idea into a new ip
The entire draw of the idea is Aliens in Zelda. If it was a new IP it'd just be Aliens invading a place.

I kind of think the implication is that the gods - and those closest to them - are technological in some way.

This is my take too. The Triforce was originally technological, and that's held on through the decades until they really got into it in Skyward Sword with Fi being AI-esque instead of a spirit, the ancient race of literal robots in the mines, etc.

I've always wondered why the Goddess made the Triforce represent Power Wisdom and Courage when it seems that every time it becomes "born" in a human, Power always succumbs to evil. I'd like to see a Zelda game where Ganondorf is able to overcome those dark desires and use the Triforce of Power for good, all three of them being in balance with one another, and teaming up to fight a larger threat. They could even have the traditional Ganon/Ganondorf final boss by having him succumb to those dark powers and you have to fight him to help snap him out of it if they really felt the need to have Ganon/dorf as a boss battle. But the Invasion idea would be perfect for that.

I hope the alien invasion ends up at the new dlc story. Nintendo should just do what Rockstar did with Red Dead with Undead Nightmare.
