Was there a better/easier way of taking down the first
Cauldron boss
robo than using the tripwire then melee once it's down? The bow did little damage otherwise. How do I freeze or shock with the bow (if possible) or is that a little later in the game?

I used a sling to lob ice bombs at it to freeze it then hit it in the weak points with a sharpshooter bow. You can get a sling/sharpshooter bow from any merchant for pretty cheap. Shoot the weak point on his neck first so he stops shooting fire at you.

I'm not clicking with this game just yet, its all so boring...with stop and start gameplay, rubbish stealth sections, it's not always clear what or where you have to go next. Have to say the Gfx are awesome with the best HDR len flare in video gaming history, but game is dull as hell and I rather play RE 7 on my Pro

I think my biggest complaint about this game apart from the dodgy weather transitioning is the UI. Thank god you can turn most of it off, but at default it's AC levels of bad. The ally and resource icons do a good job of ruining the otherwise meticulously crafted visuals.

PS4 Pro delivered today. Download is completed. See you on the other side, GAF.

Congrats! Enjoy your new console and game, they are both fantastic! What kind of TV do you have? It's going to look great no matter what you play it on, but playing the game with a 4K HDR display is really amazing imo.

Turn on the way points? Is this your first open world game?

Sounds like open world games aren't your cup of tea.

Stealth attack only connecting when I'm on the same ground level as the target is kinda annoying.

The prompt won't show up otherwise, and it has fucked up my stealth approach several times already.

After playing for a few days now my short list of pros and cons:

Pros:
Beautiful world and details
Fun and engaging combat that lets you play how you want
Very interesting main storyline that hooks you in

Cons
Side-quests are a bit repetitive, there's none that lead you into unexpected events or down a rabbit hole like the Witcher 3's sidequest could, at least from what I've played so far.

The time of day/weather transitions, as others have pointed out, they can be sudden and harsh, no build up. They really need to make them more natural, see a storm front coming in and the rain start. Have the colors transition more gradually, etc.

it's crazy, so many things to do when doing the main quest, aside from the side quests and errands, can't resist the urge to hunt a Zoids herd, never gets old

Just beat the game on Hard -- loved it. Spoiler-free takeaways.

-The combat was excellent -- had a lot of fun especially with the bigger/tougher robots. Used the tripcaster way more than I thought I would, especially before the battle to give myself some breathing room.

-The story was great. Not mind blowing, but some interesting sci-fi with some human/emotional mixed in. Really enjoyed it.

-The world was beautiful, and photo mode is amazing. More games should have it. World was the perfect size, too.

-Collectibles/Tallnecks were diverse -- some had combat involved, some had lore, some had climbing challenges... but all were fun to get and didn't feel like a chore.

-I loved Ashley Burch as Aloy, but other than that the voice acting and the dialogue was very.... flat. That's the only word I can use to describe it. Almost every character interaction seems devoid of real emotion, and sounds like they are just reading lines off of a script. It isn't so bad that it ruins the game or anything, but it was very noticeable to me. Some of the best voice acting in the game was actually the audio logs you can listen to.

-The side quests are really lacking. Maybe Witcher 3 spoiled me, but these just did nothing for me and I mostly stopped doing them after 5 or so. All very plain, no real interesting characters / character development.

And that's about it off the top of my head. Had a lot of fun with this game, will definitely dive back in if they have any DLC.

Game has exceeded expectations. I love Aloy. I enjoy that they let you emote her in conversations. It doesn't do much, but it just feels good.

The graphics are great, however there are general graphics loading issues and wonkiness and awkward transitions from gameplay to cutscenes and dialogue.

The star of the show is the gameplay for me, which I don't think can be said for any open world game (besides BotW now).

The fact that the characters and story are designed so well is incredibly satisfying.

I used the blast wire myself and thought it was pretty easy, but you could also use the sling for shock/frost damage. I'm pretty sure I saw a specific bow that does elemental damage at a merchant.

Even at right at the beginning of a game you can buy a War Bow that uses Shock arrows, if that's what you mean?

Really useful versus. Scrappers because it's 1 hit kill and it EMP shocks every robot in the vicinity of the Scrapper.

I am liking the game so far. Movement is fantastic, graphics are awesome. Something I don't like is how enemies attack, they are like homing missiles, you are like a magnet, I don't know how to describe it but I don't like it.

That's your view and don't have any issues with it. I'm just finding Zero Dawn rather boring and dull, it's just not clicking for me.

You just haven't explained very well why you find it boring. No big deal, at the end of the day you don't have to like it. I'm finding Zelda a bit boring and that's sitting at 98 on MC...

Wow, this has an amazing opening. You're not fully unleashed in the open-world, but narratively it sets things up pretty well. Poses questions and drops some hints that make you want to learn more about the world, I love it.

Also this looks incredible.

Can anyone tweet GG for me and ask them to change the Vita remote play mappings. Its fucking impossible to aim with the rear touch pads and L1 and R1 are used nowhere near as much... I no longer have a twitter account.

Game was delivered yesterday, I just had time to install it and download the update. I'll be able to play it in about 10 hours. The day is going to be so slow.

The hype finally got me and I bought in yesterday.

4 hours in and I think this game is fucking amazing.

Just done with the
proving
part - the info dump afterwards makes this world even more intriguing.

IT`S SO FUCKING GOOD!

Not having enemies appear on your compass is kinda great

Minding my own business looking for an old mug in a ruins, looting a couple of fresh Watcher kills, hear a low rumbling from behind a building. Not a problem, chances of it running into me are pretty slim. Looking around in Focus mode, suddenly hear a low growl. Turn around and there's a Sawtooth literally about 2 yards away from me, staring right at me with glowing red eyes, antenna bristling, poised to pounce.

Wonder if they approach you more slowly when your back is turned, rather than aggroing straight away. Or it might just be my stealth outfit.

Playing on Normal. Just got to the first boss/mini-boss
Sawtooth
. I died a few times but it feels exhilarating so far running/sliding around and using the bow. Something just feels so right with the tracking/hunting/hiding/shooting so far. Using that
Great
Bow from the Deluxe Edition. I hope I did not cheat myself.

By the way I am currently playing on a 1080P Samsung monitor and wow. I did not expect it to look this good. Great game so far!

I am still not that far in the game (I'll be honest, it hasn't grabbed me totally, at least not yet), but I can totally understand how someone could find it boring.

I got a bit tired of TW3, and I can see the same happening with HZD, despite the gorgeously realised world, you are still essentially doing the same things (over and over), like most other games of the same ilk.

That said, the game does give you the tools to alleviate some of these issues, there are plenty of different combat options, and I think the best way to avoid (for want of a better word, boredom) is to mix up your combat, if you end up doing the same thing over and over, you will get bored.

As I said, I am still early doors, but the story is developing nicely, and I do want to see how it pans out.

Some of the extreme hyperbole does raise my eyebrows, I can't really see that much that elevates it (at least in terms of gameplay) head and shoulders above many other games.

It's a good and solid game, but I don't think it's quite the level (personally) some say it is.

I've only played for a bit, and the arrival of Zelda later today will undoubtedly put the kibosh on much more for a while.

There's much that I love about the game thus far, but at the same time I feel like I'm pretty crap at it. For instance (spoilers below for a mission a couple of hours in to the game):

There's a story mission relatively early on where the outpost you've been recovering in is attacked by a large spider-esque robot that corrupts the more peaceful grazing robots. I flailed around enormously in this battle and felt like I only won it through attrition; it moved too fast for me to shoot its weak points without going into concentration mode (which is very short), this barely did any damage to it anyway, and the various elemental things I had to hand (fire arrows, freeze bombs, and electric tripwires) didn't really do anything to it. Perhaps that's the point - at this stage I'm supposed to feel helpless against the Machines and their growing aggression - but I mostly felt like I was shite at the game!

This game!

I am continually blown away by the visuals and level of quality from side characters.

Also, anyone wish night cycle would go faster so you can see all the amazing visuals in the day time?
