Sliding the Switch in and out of the dock will inevitably scratch the screen

I think I'll line the dock with felt or a microfiber cloth. That's probably the easiest solution plus a screen protector. Always wrap it up.

What Nintendo didn't add any felt or anything on the front of the inside of the dock? Seems like a pretty obvious thing to do.

I am not surprised.

Might need to stop sniffing glue
Because it seemed obvious to me from the design of the whole thing.

You're sliding a screen up and down against plastic. What did people think would happen? Nintendo really should have spent the extra money on either gorilla glass, or something cheaper in the dock to protect the screens. Like line it with something.

It should have required the disconnection of the Joy-Con, and slid in on guided rails into the dock making ZERO possibility of screen to plastic contact. The rails are already part of the system design to lock the Joy-Con to the middle/screen part of the system. Would it have been so hard to add guide rails on the sides instead of leaving it open a-la taco style?

Didn't even know this was a thing. Just checked my launch 3DS and yeah, no scratches around where the bottom screen touches the top.
It was big news back in the day. Prompted amazon to react due to the huge number of returns they got for the 3DS near launch. Just because it didn't happen to you doesn't mean it didn't happen at all.

I find it so funny and sad that's so many people jump to conclusions after one report of an issue. "Dock scratched my screen" = happens to everyone. "Left joycons disconnects" = happens to everyone. Etc etc. Stop jumping to conclusions some of you, damn.

Plastic shouldn't be scratching glass (because physics), and I'm struggling to think of any modern consumer devices with capacitive touchscreens made from plastic.

The whole concept of the Switch revolves entirely around docking and undocking, too, so I find this scratching information rather dubious.

Switch seems to have a plastic screen.

At least the de sync has multiple reports. This is all based on one report that multiple people have been unable to replicate.

Yes I agree the de-sync issue seems to be a potential bigger issue, but just stating how when it was originally mentioned, people were freaking out before more information and testing came out from people with Switch units.

Better safe than sorry. Regardless of how accurate that report is, at least it creates awareness. It probably is something you should invest in if you own a Switch.

I did. But I had played with it prior to the screen protector arriving. It came with a dry cloth and microfiber cloth as well.

Here's some pictures I'll try to get. Better shot without reflection so you guys can see how it sits. Tempered glass protectors are just amazing in terms of application. Only ones I never seem to have an issue with. Aside from liquid ones.

Thanks for posting these, I've just ordered a set.

The dock bothered me the very first time I used it. Can't believe there isn't any sort of soft material in there.

Would cloth even help? I used to put a microfiber cloth between my OG 3DS screens when closing the shell and I still ended up with scratches.

Why even have it cover the screen? Why not a shallow dock like the one for the 3DS?

No way, thats terrible. Its awesome that you can leave the joycons on and dock it without taking it apart and putting it back together everytime you switch modes. Grab and go. My joycons will rarely come off my switch. Got a pro controller.

Are some of you seriously blaming the users? It's just bad engineering on Nintendo's part, nothing more. This is like the iphone, "don't put it in your pocket then"....

No problem. There is a rubberized foam inside. But it's not enough. Just in general I get nervous with a screen protector. Plus for $10 you're insuring your screen remains in good condition for if you sell/trade it. I won't do the crappy plastic ones though. Good thing they are even cheaper than the officially licensed ones.

Edit: No no there is not. Wow I'm glad I didn't use my dock yet. I thought they said there was going to be the rubber/foam. Not only is it nor, but the plastic is quite rough.

i'm smelling horse poop on this, like a little smoke and mirrors, create hysteria, drive some sales.

yep.

It'd be pretty easy to test though? Set up a camera carefully and just observe if the screen naturally rubs against the front of the dock or does the dock prevent that somehow unless you really tilt it badly

Between the two tempered glass protectors, are they about the same, or are there any notable differences in color or quality?

Unrelated but did you buy a Neon Switch+Red/Blue joy-con pair+Double Grey joy-con pair in order to get two red joy cons and a grey pair ?

Welp. Bought this because of your post. Won't arrive for another week tho. But I don't plan on undocking it much until then.

The difference for me right now is that we only have reports about the quality of the "amFilm" brand..so I went with amFilm

Inevitably?

Seeing as how the front of my Switch didn't even make contact with anything on the way into the dock, I call BS.

That's good enough, thanks. Plus, the orzly wouldn't come in until the 14th at the earliest, so that's a solid nope right there

I'm willing to bet they are from the same supplier. But I can't vouch for that yet. Usually that's how it works with these guys. They're all the same product with the differences being instructions and extra knick knacks for easier application. The amFilm came with good instructions, wet/ dry wipes, micro fiber cloth. Card for bubbles. (Wasn't even an issue for me. Just used the cloth to push the single corner bubble off.) Tabs for easy alignment etc. I imagine Ozrly is pretty similiar.

The screen is plastic, this checks out. Get yourself some screen protectors.

Wait are you shitting me.

On a system that needs to actively slide it's screen to and from the dock.

lmao.

Nintendo.

Nintendo, come on. Sort this shit out before Odyssey please. Cutting corners in the wrong places.

So what are the best screen protector options available? Never bought one but after my n3ds got scratched for nothing I want to get one for Switch

Considering the Officially licensed ones are plastic garbage. I went with this one.

I posted pictures on the previous page. It's good.

One big Caveat. I'm not positive these are actually glass. It feels good and is very clear. But it doesn't have the same rigidity as the tempered glass protector I have on my Nvidia shield tablet. I may try to bend the extra one I have to see if it shatters. It should if it's really glass. Either way it's far better than the alternative but something to note.

Well that's kinda sucky, I wondered if this could be a problem with all the sliding but I thought it had a hardened glass. I guess a screen protector would be useful in this circumstance.

Edit took one for the team. It's definitely glass.

Not sure if this has been asked (and answered) before but is the Switch supposed to sit so wobbly in its dock? Or should it be stuck firmly?
