Nintendo Switch Launch Thread: Now you're playing with power; HYBRID POWER!

the pro controller is fine. gyroscope works pretty well. unacceptable to not have analog triggers AGAIN. Zelda feels good with it, but the TV mode runs and looks worse than the handheld mode.. which is puzzling. it's still more immersive to play on the TV.

does anyone else's joy cons have a little bit of "give" when they're connected to the switch unit? like if you try to break the thing in half they wobble?

I put the Switch on top of my tablet (with a cover on) and put it on my chest while I layed down and played with the Joycons. Pretty comfy. Better than holding the thing in handheld mode.

My game card flap is a little loose when closed. Like, it doesn't close completely. Does anyone have this? Not sure if it's intentional or specific to mine.

So after a day of using my Switch on and off with Zelda I'm happy with my purchase! :D

The only thing that really bugs me is that the Switch doesn't seem to like the PC monitor I usually use with all my consoles (except the Wii U because Limited RGB), I have to plug it directly into the monitor instead of using a HDMI switch or else I get no signal and whenever I put the Switch to sleep and wake it up the monitor is stuck at "NO SIGNAL INPUT" and I have to undock and dock the Switch again for the picture to come through. Nothing is the fault of the Switch though as it works flawless on my TV, I guess my monitor is just a bit picky and it's a generic LG IPS monitor I plan to eventually replace anyway.

Other than that I love mostly everything. The Joycon-grip felt weird at first but I adjusted to it without even knowing after a while. I wish the Joycons would disconnect themselves at inactivity though to save battery. The OS is sleek and great at what it does with a ton of potential to be a great mobile OS if Nintendo keeps expanding its abilities. The kick-stand is quite eh... the angle doesn't really work for me and it's hard to get out, since I don't think I'll use it much though I don't really care.

I also didn't notice any issues with my Joycons and the system dock sits on the floor behind my desk and PC till I find a nice spot for it. Nothing desynced or lagged so I guess my Joycons are fine thankfully.

Zelda has quite a mediocre image-quality and bad framerates at places, I won't sweettalk that but honestly the game is a blast and I say that after only completing the four tutorial shrines. It's just so immersive to be out there in the wild and doing things however creative you can be. I'm pretty sure I approached the entrances to the shrines all in a roundabout not really intended way but that's what makes the game great! :D I barely even fought enemies since I noticed they are harder than usual in Zelda games and only did so when I had to while trying and using my surroundings to my advantage so my advice is when you feel annoyed by the encounters in the game like I read a few times above, avoid the fights if possible, atleast at the Plateau I got the feeling that approaching it the old way of just fighting everything you see isn't really beneficial here.

But yeah I should stop for today I barely got enough sleep last night and have a slight headache so sorry if my post is a bit of a incoherent mess :p

Do people not realize that there's a little lock tab preventing you from easily removing the wrist strap grips? It's a little grey piece of plastic. When you want to remove the grips, pull the plastic down, then remove the grips as you would on the console.

I'm so bummed, but for silly reasons. Got delayed at work, and picked up my Switch pretty late at Best Buy - no cases or screen protectors. :(

I went to 3-4 targets and gamestops... nothing!

That Switch is staying in its box until the protector comes from Amazon next week. :(

Loving Zelda, loving the Switch hybrid concept and hardware but...

Is it me or the OS sucks?

It lacks that Nintendo flavor and instead looks and feels like almost Android.

It's barebones as fuck and that's honestly it's biggest flaw right now. They could have at least had the VC up and ready.

Also I hope they put Netflix, Youtube and some sort of web browser on this thing. It's damn near essential.

question, does downloadable games automatically use microsd if there's 1 in switch or you need to do something else first? someone asked me about this but since somehow on his system it still use internal storage. can't check it on my own since mine haven't arrived yet

My quick impressions/issues.

Zelda is fantastic (no surprises). The pro controller feels really great, so happy I bought it. And to my surprise I also don't have any issues using the joycons (I was very worried that they would be too small for long play sessions).

However, the system is funky as hell with my internet. Sometimes when bringing it out of sleep mode, it straight up won't connect to the internet (despite connecting with my router). I put it back to sleep and turn it on again, and suddenly it will connect with varying degrees of success. When testing the connection I've had download speeds ranging from 10kbps to 20mbps (and yes, that "k" is not a typo).

Also, although this isn't really a problem per se, it's clear that this system was not ready for the market. Everything regarding the OS and eShop feels temporary. You can call it a "clean" design, but man, there isn't even audio in the eShop. I also get audio drops in the OS. There will be clicky noises as I move the cursor, and then it will suddenly stop, and then out of nowhere start up again.

I hope we will be seeing, at the very least, monthly updates to the system throughout 2017. Don't let people in July be buying an "under construction" system.

While I agree and the lack of any user-set wallpaper or lockscreen image along with the lack of Nintendo-music throughout the OS is a bummer too, they can evolve the OS pretty easily over time though.

The Switch is literally 3 feet from the router. It's picking up my neighbor's wireless, but not mine.

I've never had an issue with any other system Nintendo or otherwise.

Anyone else having this problem?

I'm not finding any wireless networks and my building must have 30 that get picked up on other devices I use. I messed around with my router settings and I've had no luck...it's a TP Link router. Never had this issue before and I have no idea what's wrong!

I know it's not on the levels of PS4 or Xbox One, but the fact that this tiny tablet can produce visuals like in Zelda, is pretty remarkable.

I think the analog sticks on the Joycons are the worst analog sticks i've seen on a home console in years... The placement on the right stick is hurting my hand for some reason, that never happens with controllers.

Other than that issue, and the obvious lack of software. I will say I feel the system has a lot of potential.

I would like to ask is that FAST RMX game worth buying?

I might get Snipper Clips... but FAST has caught my eye I would love some impressions on it.

:EDIT: I forgot to mention. Does anyone find the lack of trailers on the eShop a little weird? I haven't looked at all the games on there, but Fast and Snipperclips don't have any videos... which is odd considering the Wii U eshop had trailers for each game on their store page.

I really wish MyNintendo gave you gold coins for purchasing the Switch like it did back with the Wii u and Wii i believe.

At the very least, at least you get gold Coins from physical games.

When I downloaded Disgaea 5 it went straight to the SD and I never changed any settings or anything. But I did boot it was the SD card in on first boot.

DF review showed it getting upto 50c in the dock when playing games.

I wasn't going to buy a Switch for the forseeable future.

Rang up GAME, just to see if they had stock, I don't live in a busy city or anything. Was mostly curious. One person cancelled their pre-order, bundled with Zelda, was the only thing they have left.

I now own a Switch :)

My Switch is in sleep-mode right now so it will be cool but I could test for you! Want to exchange codes?

None of the rewards are worth getting anyways.

Can you play Snipperclips on the tv screen? All I see is two people playing it on the Switch handheld mode.

My biggest gripe is that the switch itself has no personality. It's UI is boring compared to their past systems. The freaking mii maker is even stuffed away in settings and dosent play background music... the eshop as well etc,

Give me themes or something eventually...
Yeah, the minimalism is cold and scary after the colorful and very comfy UI on the Wii U.

Hoping themes fix that, whenever they come.

Noticed the same thing with mine. Played in dock mode for about 2 hours and it was pretty dang hot.

Currently dumping the two SPI flash ic's on the pcb of the dock, at current it looks like the dock has some code to check stuff and communicate with the switch..

The bad news is, those adapters are more than likely not going to work.
The good news is I can reverse engineer the code and implement it into a home made dock

I can confirm the Insignia adapter I tried did not work.

I accidentally preordered this I guess. I remember trying to add one to my cart way back when but I didn't think the order went through. Cut to today and it arrives on my front step.

I'm still not able to get the straps off my joy cons, and I need to be able to slide the joycons in the tablet to boot up the system for the first time. help

undo the light grey locking latch, press the little grey button on the back at the top and tug, they can be pretty stiff to start with.

I'm liking my Switch & zelda so far, but I noticed that there appears to be a white speck of some kind under my screen. If I called Nintendo about this, would they replace my Switch? Assuming they would, does anyone know how long Nintendo normally allows for replacements for something like this? (Ideally, I would like to complete Zelda before sending it in...)
