He's certainly contrarian, but he has more substance than a simple troll.

Whites reviews are more verbose than substantive. He's a confirmed troll so there's no need to debate.I'd love to have a discussion of Whites review of Get Out after you've seen the movie but you defending Whites word soup of a review before watching seems odd.

It's not the first time people get mad at him for being contrarian to a very liked movie, or mad at reviewers in general when some break a movie's streak; going by the movie's synopsis and Key&Peele's show, which I did like, it was no surprise White would haaaaate it. But I still enjoy reading his reviews, while not tending to agree with him most of the times.

White is relentless when it comes to race, especially when it comes from the political background of Peele. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with him here, haven't even seen the movie but it's good we have someone who can still write something like:

"Get Out is an attenuated comedy sketch in which serious concerns are debased. Pushing buttons that alarm blacks yet charm white liberals, Peele manipulates the Trayvon Martin myth the same way Obama himself did when he pandered by saying, “Trayvon Martin could have been my son.”

White is using myth in the sense of the cultural touchstone it became. And fuck off.

He's certainly contrarian, but he has more substance than a simple troll.

Can you explain the Trayvon Martin myth? And isn't this movie more likely to shock white liberals who are kind of on the firing lane (being nice and "woke" until a certain point)?

Oh wait, banned. Well, we'll never know!

Man, just saw this about three hours ago at a packed theater. Crowd was insane the whole movie, people howling, laughing, & screaming - definitely one of the best/unique experiences I've had at the movies. It was almost like a group coversation.

Film was fucking excellent, incredible thriller - Jordan Peele is a genius.

Just saw it tonight - was so excited I came home and did my review: https://youtu.be/sgRTQ3vgslo :)

Edit: Watching it today I'm think "man, I'm talking so fast!" I think I was too excited haha

I think what you said captures how I feel about it. The trailer looked like another lame horror movie, so I was kind of disappointed and wasn't that interested in seeing it, but I keep hearing about it and seeing great reviews. Planning on seeing it next week sometime.

Was so satisfied with the ending. You must know if it was directed by a white guy it would have ended with
the cops arriving and shooting him
.

Saw it today. Great movie. Everyone was great, pleasantly surprised by Allison Williams' performance. I thought the climax wasn't quite as good as I wanted but it was still great especially
after the car crash. Also glad it had a happy-ish ending as opposed to Chris being dead or locked up.

Just got out of it. Loved it!!

I loved how the twist changed so many of the previous scenes. The cop wanting to see his ID for one. Would have added him in the system as being with the gf right before he disappeared. The movie is full of that recontextualizing

I think I might have to watch it again to catch all those moments. This moving was so good and it resonated with me.

Shouldn't the thread title be updated?

The thread title is still accurate. It was at 100% after 136 reviews. :p

Get Out had a ridiculously good hold over last Friday, down just 26%. It's in for a run well north of $100m on a $4.5m production budget. Peele hit it out of the park.

Then in a later interview when asked about it he'd say some shit like, "It couldn't have ended any other way."

I didn't think about that one.
I just realized why they were so adamant about him not smoking.

I took my kids to see this today (second time for me).

Man, this is definitely going to be in my top films of the year. I just don't see a way that 10 more things come out and impress me more.

On rewatching, there are so many little bits you catch that you wouldn't think twice about when seeing it the first time.

My daughters also both loved it.

Saw this on Friday, it was amazing. Did not expect the twist. The crowd was lively and even clapped at the end. A lively crowd in a movie always makes for a better experience IMO.

A question about the end.
Why did the grandpa guy kill himself? Wasn't he free?

No I think you can only be free temporarily due to the flash. Eventually the grandfather mind would've came back and I think the original owner of the body knew that and needed to end his life to fully be free from that nightmare.

I had seen it Friday night (on a date) and we LOVED it. The people in the theatre were really into it, clapping and shouting at certain scenes.

I'm planning to see it again this week.

Just saw this movie. Went into it blind and I'm glad I did. Amazing film with so many twists and turns. Jordan peele out M.Night Shamalan'd M. Night Shamalan!!!

And you HAVE to have at least two or three groups of black folks in the theater

Optimal viewing experience.
Before the movie started I saw a young 20 year old hot blonde girl walk in with her 20 something 6'2" in shape African American boyfriend. I wish I was able to see their reactions after the film but it was a packed theater so I didn't see them on the way out.

Honestly,
It was easily the most powerful moment of the movie when the TSA car pulled up and the entire theater had the same exact thing in mind with thinking that it was going to be a cop who would shoot him. When it was revealed to be his friend, one guy threw his arms up and almost everyone gave a collective sigh of relief. Its unreal how telling that moment was of our culture's concepts of race and police are.

I saw the movie last night and the EXACT same thing happened at my showing. So much sighs of relief when that was revealed.

That Sam Jackson comment brought my attention to this. Watched the trailer, now I really wanna see it.

Any horror movies with high ratings are good in my book. Looks like a psychological horror type deal too. That's what I really liked about Oculus.

Is weird to feel awkward when people around me started clapping when
the main character started straight up murdering people
? I tried to explain it to might gf and she didn't understand why I felt that way. I get the
revenge
part of it all and instinct to defended in fight or flight situation, I just felt awkward when people clapped.

My audience applauded when every family member died.
It was great.

I clapped,
especially when the brother gets killed with the Drive-like brutal kicks
😆 So satisfying.

My theater cheered during those parts both times.
I think it's pretty well established at that point that the Armitages are monsters who deserve no mercy.

How uncomfortable did Die Hard make you?

If you didn't think that the dude
killing the people who were going to forcefully trap his consciousness inside of his own body while an old white person took control of it
wasn't cathartic, you may have some issues.
