Persona 5 Preview Thread

Only four more weeks!
I really can't wait any longer than that.
Everything is prepared for my most anticipated game in 10 years; CE pre-ordered, two weeks of vacation; no appointments whatsoever.

Yeah... My excitement for P5 has thoroughly dried up. It will be a great game, but I would be forcing my enthusiasm for the series to return if I were to play it anytime soon.

Thesis probably a better thing than you realise. Going into something with too much hype/expectations can ruin even somewhat that you'd normally love.

Going into it as you are now with a "clean slate" from of mind will let you enjoy the game on its merits and on its own terms.

I liked Persona 4 but also thought it was massively overrated.

This, though... this I'm really excited for. I'm liking the vibe and the urban setting a lot more, plus one of my major complaints (awful dungeons) seems to have addressed pretty head-on.

I loved Persona 3 (played both vanilla and FES), one of my favorite JRPGs, but I love how fresh P5 feels. And yeah, the dungeons were painful, so it's good they took that criticism to heart. The Cowboy Bebop vibes I got from the style and soundtrack of that first trailer, well, I hope it can live up to that mega-hype initial impression. From these previews it sounds like it does.

I was actually in Japan last year and was able to go to the special Persona 5 pop up cafe.

The hype was almost too much (and the food was good too, got some sweet persona badges)

That's cool! They could've at least ironed the curtain though.

Wait, are you telling me outlets have had the full game now for weeks and it's still not coming out for another month? Why are you doing this to us, Altus?

Maybe they're trying to avoid the likes of Horizon, Zelda, Nier Automata, and Mass Effect, and scheduled a date where people would theoretically be finished and done with those games. I can't think of any other big, big game release in the few following months after Persona 5.

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but based on the US Gamer preview, the review embargo is lifted on March 29th, possibly at 9AM. A little less than a week before the game is released. Review thread should be fun lol.

Damn. I really want to support these devs but at the same time I just can't play all these games at the same time. And my altruism only goes so far; I'm not going to buy a pile of $60 games just to not play them. May as well wait for the inevitable price drop.

Disagree, there was a point in time where I went years without playing a JP console game I liked. In fact, my game of the generation, Catherine, was one of the only console games out of Japan I loved last gen (if you don't count XIV as cross platform/cross gen).

JP was all portables for a while.

And some of those portable games were better than any console games coming out at the time. So they certainly didn't go away.

And even on consoles, last gen saw Japan releasing games like Yakuza 3-5, Xenoblade, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Nier, Tales of Graces f, Trails of Cold Steel I and II, The Last Remnant, and dozens of other great games. They were just largely ignored outside of some of the big Nintendo games like Mario and Zelda. To say nothing of the fact that Persona 4 was a late 2008 release, even if it was on PS2.

Japan was still making great games. They just weren't getting the attention for it.

Perhaps the parent poster was really talking about the PS3 only. There was a serious dearth of great JP games on it, outside of standouts like Catherine and Valkyria Chronicles. And almost nothing artsy-wacky like the old days of Katamari or PaRappa.

Yeah I've played well over 200 hours.

What the? 200 hours?? I think I played P3:FES for over 100 hours and that was a slog by the end. Is there really that much engaging content in P5?

Man, huge fan of the series here, and SMT in general, but i haven't seen so much as a trailer for this game, only the premium edition picture when i pre-ordered it lol. Blind faithful, gonna be great.

Omg can't wait tbh, but in all seriousness 2017 is shaping to be one of the great years in gaming, this first three months have been amazing and we still have persona 5 yet to come.

Previews sound great I'm very hyped for this game. Glad that I only have 10 bucks left to pay of on the Take your heart edition.

Man fuck them batting cages lol. Bane of my existence grinding for that trophy.

You do know there's a skill you can get that lets you
use third eye to slow down time when batting
right?

Persona 3 and 4 took me about 130+ hours each when I played them for the first time. Persona 5 took me 157 hours iirc. The pace is so good you don't feel those 100+ hours.

Imagine playing the Persona 4 when it came out, 9 fucking years ago, and 5 is still not out. Holy crap guys, how did you guys survive? I played P4G in 2013, but it feels like an eternity ago.

Question to those who have played the game.

Are there more school related fun events or any non main plot events than the previous games? I'm talking about vacations or eating watermelon kind of events in p4.

I can't believe that 1. the game is almost here and 2. it's been almost 9 years since I beat Persona 4 for the first time. I marathoned through the true ending at my dad's over Christmas break during my sophomore year of undergrad (before he passed away that next Spring). Would have never guessed then that I'd be booting up P5 while living in Japan!

Can't wait to get my hands on this!

I'm 128 hours in the JPN version and I cannot wait for this to release to start it over again. The English will make it feel slightly different and it'll fill in the gap for the stuff I missed on my JPN playthrough. I have no idea why I'm hype for a game I'm at the end of already in the JPN version. It's guuuuud

Nice previews. Can't wait to sink my time on this game as this will be the first game I will purchase for my PS4 (Most of the games I've played are purchased by my brother).

Due to the constant delays, my hype is nowhere near the levels it used to be, but I'll still be picking it up day 1.

Lol, imagine KH fans. 2005 to MAYBE 2018. There were side games in between but so did Persona.

4 pages for a positive previews thread. Who would have thought this almost beat Zelda as the most anticipated game here? Those delays killed alot of hype.
