Horizon Zero Dawn SPOILERS Thread

I was wondering that myself, and just came up with a bullshit answer...did Gaia and thus the teraforming subroutine know where she died, saw that pattern around her, and thus subconsciously (or whatever) recreated her death scene when teraforming? Each metal flower and that pattern could have been Gaia mourning the loss of Elizabet. Each a memorial to her passing.
Let's go darker. Each flower marks the location where AN Elizabet died.

*I assumed they were the memorial that one guy created for Elizabet. Never read all the poems to check the validity of this theory.

I thought Horus was just the class of the titanic machines in the Chariot line. Each Metal Devil was a Horus machine.

It's pretty early in the year, but I would like to propose Sylens for character of the year candidate. That dude really grew up on me throughout the game. Excellently voice acted, too.

Regarding the Metal Flowers, I assumed they were DEMETER's doing. They resembled seeds and had flowers growing around them, so it would make sense that they played some role in rejuvenating the flora of the world. The patterns around them might just be a leftover effect of the manner in which they propagated life.

Did the game ever go into detail what exactly the Metal Devils were? Those are the giant robots with huge tentacle arms that are sprawled out atop a few mountains in the game right? Were they just a product of HADES and his attempt to destroy GAIA?

They were Horus master control units built by Faro. The "brains" of the Swarms. They could also create more machines.

What was up with all the blue glowy shit in Sylens skin?
The banuk shaumon had them as well, so I'm guessing sylens was banuk? Speaking of witch, I hope in a sequel we get to see the homelands of the osuram and the banuk. The carja & the Nora were cool but I want to see more of the tribes and thier world.

I don't think we'll get Ted at face value.

This game is way too clever for that.

We're going to get some sort of twist.

Ted was so vain that he modeled the swarm's AI on himself, wanted to know that even after he was long dead the "peacekeeper" robots would be taking their orders from his image, immortalizing himself.

Ted had a fucked up sense of "I know what's right for humans, and I've already set it in motion", AI Ted will have the same, the Robot Plague wasn't just killing people, it was digitizing them.. "The best way to save people is to remove them from their frail bodies."

Aloy naturally goes to fight the new threat, is confronted by an aged rebuild of Elisabet Sobeck, claiming to not only be her in body, but also mind. Internal conflict.

Humanoid robots make an appearance, Aloy conflicted as to whether they're actual people or just machines. Horizon had a lot of pretty fucked up stuff under the surface, time to see it directly. Androids "killing" Humans, later in the story have several androids have freak outs about what they're doing, turning on other Androids, killing themselves, begging Aloy to stop them, etc.

That's the type of setting/tone I want to see in a sequel, don't Metroid Aloy, losing her weapons/tools..Just increase the arsenal into some more hi-tech stuff. Add in better Hacking/Machine control (Fuck you to those challenges that say I can hack a Thunderjaw and let it shoot the Ravagers, can't count on them doing anything at all other than charge and melee)..Expand the map, include the entire original playing area, with changes from the final battle/new stuff being built, add-on another 1.5-2x from the edges..Bring back some NPCs to give an update on how their life went after the 1st game.

I hope somehow that Ted Faro is alive in the sequel so you can kill him. What a prick, not content with dooming all life on the planet he fucks up the only chance life has in the future.

Next game should use island, tropical forest setting. They've build Poseidon AI, let's see some ocean robot!
But I don't know how they make underwater fight fun tho...

I just stumbled upon them this morning, the Shaman in the Banuk camp had them on/in his chest.

In the Artbook, Sylens is in the Banuk tribe.

He was Banuk, hence his visual ressemblence to the Banuk Shaman visual details.

They were Horus mobile production factory. They serve autonomous repair and production line for Faro's bots.

That's how robots could replicate themselves : they harvest biomass to fuel themselves, they harvest material and bring it back to the many Horus units around and it would keep making more killer robots...

Human live on Earth for 600 years when Gaia still running things. Earth obviously eco friendly enough for that, machines have done their job but still live alongside human for no reason.

There are not nearly enough animals/insects etc alive to keep an eco system running, especially when humans start becoming a significant part of the world again.

So Earth is fucked and have to rely on machine to keep it running...total recreation of life on earth seems like impossible.

Couple cool titbits I noticed...

1) The voice of HADES is the game's lead writer, John Gonzalez.
ENTITY!
2) There was a bit of side dialogue near the end talking about how "shadows will fall". Nice callback to Killzone!

Fellas, could you refresh me how did the swarn got killed or disappeared? It was Gaia, right?

Also, what exactly is the Derangement? Didn't understand that quite well but I know it's what made the machines angrier.

Gaia finally crack the code, broadcast it and turn off all the evil machine, it was part of the plan. Because the code take 50 years to crack, life on earth couldn't last that long, therefor they create project zero dawn instead.

Derangement happen when a code by unknown source trigger Hades, Gaia destroy itself to stop Hades take over, machine go wild without Gaia control.

Gaia spent 50 years cracking the code to deactivate the swarm.

Perfect! thank you. I understood something along those lines but I wasn't sure about the details.

This is the reason I believe they are given you a new protagonist

So gaining weopons and doing hunting trails make sense

But it pretty cool being s new protag and hearing about the legend of Alloy from people as you progress, kinda like how you hear of "The Boss" from MGS

They can even go one step darker and have most of the people die by an unexpected new wave of robot attacks that destroyed the whole map, so the survivors set sail to a whole new land, where they shared their wisdom off what happens and legends such as "Alloy sacrificed her self to call upon All Mother once more" like how Elizabeth did and how she informed everybody before she sacrificed herself that this sacrifice will
not keep the Metal Devil down permantally and she found out its next target is a whole new land in x amount of years and that the survivors must go and convince the new land about this attack which they refer to as the "Prophecy of the anointed" and to do so that they need build a new army and new hero from that land who can stand up , defend and lead against this attack like Alloy could, and whoever the leader is gets what you believe to be at that time Alloys Ear piece, to where it is a cocky rich kid (opposite to Alloy) and he is the new protagonist which at the beginning he doesn't give a shit or believe anything that these crazy people say, he is just doing it to kill machines for fun and show off how good he is till he continues his journey and the more people he finds that decrypts his trinket he gets access to Alloys journal pieces before the surprise huge attack happens and leading up to it, he gets more convinced and humbled up whilst also learning about Ted, Sylans, Hades and the likes of them sets his interest high to where he's looking for old friends of Alloy to learn more about what happened and how can he be like Alloy.....

You get the drift.

I thought the same thing when I saw the snapmaws swimming. I would love to see a robotic Moby Dick or a robotic megalodon.

Some details that impressed me a lot during the story:

- At the beginning when child Aloy fell on the cave and watches the hologram of that guy greeting his son on his birthday. It was surprising the reaction of Aloy to me because you could felt how much she needed love and the attention of others besides Rost, the way she replays the whole thing was pretty touching and necessary to convey emotion.

- Don't remember the exact moment and scene but at some point when you discover some answers Aloy felt kinda depressed because she realized that her "mother" was dead. Sylens said something to her like "did you honestly think she would still be alive?" it was like recognizing that the context was kinda cliche but they got away from it pretty well: This is not a fairy tale.

- When Aloy gets out of the door at the Mountain and she doesn't tell the truth to people, it was interesting because we don't know how will she act about it and when the time comes she was already set to her thoughts. It was fantastic that they didn't tell us what it's gonna be, they just show you. Also I loved that she didn't like the reaction of others praying on her, she's still upset about the whole Nora rules and stuff.

That moment where she got fucking pissed after they started calling her the 'anointed' was pretty great. Ashley Burch really sold Aloy's pent up frustration with the Nora and just let it out. Great moment.

It was a funny moment when the black Nora dude (I'm bad at names) said "the Anointed doesn't like when people bow" I legit lol'd at Alloys expression

One thing I don't understand is the corruption. That isn't HADES, correct?

The way I understand it is that the corruption is the feature of the FARO Scarab that can "slave enemy robots" to its will. Whereas, HADES is making the GAIA machines hostile (the ones that aren't corrupted).

In that case, why is HADES represented by the FARO red corruption strands? And if the FARO Scarabs are continuing to corrupt robots, including now the GAIA machines, why are they not at odds with HADES?

HADES was created as a branch of GAIA as a counterbalance. The AI itself is independent of the red corruption strands. The red corruption strands are the symbol of the signal/virus that hostilely takes over HADES.

The HADES name is used synonymously for both the original GAIA sub-branch and the foreign entity, which makes things a bit confusing.

Technically, you could say that whatever Sylens captures at the end isn't HADES. It's simply the raw form of the foreign signal/virus/corruption. It really needs another name.

Which brings up another valid question: Is the voice we hear from HADES simply the original AIs voice like GAIA, or is it originating from whatever/wherever has hacked into it?

As I understood it, it's because HADES was in the shell of a Horus, and the corruption is actually a nanite swarm that Chariot class robots could use to slave other robots. So HADES is basically co-opting the original swarms' methodology.

That's also my theory on the red cloud of HADES that escapes at the end. It looked similar to the nanites shown being used by a deathbringer to consume biomass.

My favourite sidequest characters has to be Nil and Vanesha by far.

They're prob the only 2 I enjoyed choosing the options to learn more

I'll take Talanah too because the hunting lodge, how it works, and the Sun Ring's story were great to know. The old man that greets you at the door was nice too.

Nakoa's quest is a pretty awesome journey through the map, she's an average character but the quest is good.

Banuk tribe side story with the calm machines is fantastic too but super short.

OK, this makes sense. I guess then the red corruption imagery is just indicative of corruption in a general sense then, whether it's from the alien signal or from the FARO Scarab. This brings another issue up though, which is how are The Eclipse able to control the Corruptor Scarabs if they're not under GAIA's jurisdiction?

Because they're under HADES' jurisdiction. HADES allows the Eclipse to have control over the scarabs, which he can do because he's in a Horus shell.

Maybe Hades told the Eclipse about the modules you need to take over other machines.

I don't want a new protagonist. I like Aloy and want to play as her more. They didn't spent all of HZD developing her just to replace her with someone else the next game. Either about the same age or as an older her in the sequel, her design is really aesthetic and fits with the world really nice.
Maybe later on, Horizon 3 or 4 - they should give us a new protagonist

No chance in hell H2 doesn't have Aloy at the helm. I don't trust Sylens though... I think he'll be the antagonist next time.

Not only that, but we still have to fix Gaia and last I check Alloy the only person who could do that, they left that plot point open for a reason.

IMHO way too many remnants of Earth's past remain after what we're told at one point is 350,000 years. Stuff like ES' remains on the bench especially.

350,000 days, about 900 years.

But still, yeah. Most of that stuff would have been gone but it's nice to have it there for the world building.
