KS8000 settings for gaming at 4k/HDR

Yeah, that's not HDR for me either. Something is definitely wrong. I'm on latest firmware, 1165, don't know how to redo any amazon video stuff.

Are you definitely selecting the UHD version? I accidentally selected the standard HD version before. Is HDR working on other things? There's an option on the tv settings to reset all of the apps (smarthub).

It feels about 100ms when I'm playing, and it's 113.5 ms according to rtings outside of Game Mode. Personally I find games nigh unplayable outside of Game Mode.

If you turn off auto motion plus and smart led the input lag on horizon seems about 40 to 50 mms to me. More than playable on single player games I think.

So, if you have PC label on the HDMI input, the HDR function switching automatically to HDR and non HDR? What about the input lag? It keeps the same as normal?
Just slightly higher than game mode (30+ ms according to rtings) so it's not bad. Some won't probably even notice the difference. Not sure what you are asking about with hdr switching automatically but if it's about separate settings then yes, hdr and non hdr modes have their own set of settings in PC mode so you can fine tune each.

There's still the problem though of the TV not remembering the device type set when powering off the TV. I wish there was a way to disable it trying to auto set device types.

So I just picked up a switch and I'm experiencing the issues everyone else has been talking about with the tv changing inputs automatically/not picking up the input at all...My main issue though has got to be the quality of the picture. I'm not sure if this is due to the switch it the tv, but no matter what I do I can't fix the picture quality. Everything seems blurry and overall washed out looking when playing the switch in dock mode. Does anyone have any recommended settings?

Games look fine to me. If you're using the OS as basis, I believe the Switch interface runs at 720p only

I see no way to pick one version over the other. I did have a bit of success last night. Even though I've done this multiple times already, 2 videos did show the HDR indicator and play in HDR after holding down the power on the remote to hard reboot the TV, but any after that would not show the HDR indicator or play in HDR, even the same ones I just played. So something makes the app just stop displaying HDR, maybe after so long of running, I don't know.

Seems to be separate sections on the main menu for UHD content (on the European app at least) i.e. Go to TV, then theres a section called Ultra HD TV. The telling point is if it has 'HD' or 'UHD' in the corner of the title image for the program. Also when the controls appear as you pause/fast-forward a program it says what's displaying, should say HDR there.

In the end I went with High DC, Color Space native (big differences on trees being a popping green or a washed out green) and Black level auto on both the switch and KS8000. (Other settings are default, backlight @ 10, sharpness 0, ect)

Give this a try and let me know how it looks on your side?

Try playing with the Black level and color space and see if you can remove the "blur" that way, I also had the same feeling (in Zelda) as you before setting it up as above.

We are moving and I have to transport this tv to a new place, so nervous about moving it :(

I still have the original box, so I will try to wrap it in towels and blankets and carefully put it back

A truly genuine gooooooooood luck with avoiding a single semi-permanent fingerprint smudge on the screen in the process.

Does anyone have any ideal TV settings for BotW on this tv? Looking at Wii U version and it's just blurry, smear-like and just horrific to look at. I can't get into the game no matter what I do and believe me I'm trying.

Please help me out to make it look somewhat presentable. For starters, I bumped up sharpness from 0 to 15 and I can now at least make out the details on link's face when the camera is more than an inch away from him. D.C. On medium as well. I think the image quality is slightly less blurry with the Wii U set to 720p as opposed to 1080p (I know that makes no sense but I think the Wii U's internal upscale must be relatively shite)

See above, not sure if it applies the same way to Wii U as Switch.

I mean the Xbox S is fine for a blu-ray player as long as you don't care about some black crush I guess.

That and if you don't mind certain discs not playing, frequest crashes and a clunky user interface. The only argument in favor of One S was that it was the cheapest but the Samsung and Phillips players are regularly on sale for $199 or below.

I guess it depends on if you actually want a decent home theater experience or if you just want to meet the bare minimum requirement of "it plays the disc".

i'm having this issue where the Netflix app completely stops responding to the remote. I force close by holding the back button, but as soon as I launch it again I'm just stuck at the profile select screen with it not responding to the remote at all.

How the hell do I fix this?

Had the same with my Amazon Prime app, had to reset the smart hub from the support menu in settings. Just means you have to re-download apps and log in again. Pain, but couldn't find another way around it.

The game is so rough, I was ok with HDR +. It gives the game some pop withought overly altering the picture. Its laggier, but the fps already ruins any semblence of precise controls. Native color space is pretty nice if you are ok with getting away from the original colors. I turned auto motion blur and jutter off. Dynamic contrast medium. Led dimmer high. Turn on sharpness if you like it. Again it alters the image above zero, but I don't think nintendo made good decisions for a low res game. It would look great at higher resolution but the muted color palette without obvious outlines are a tough sell at 720p, 18fps.

Once it finally works, exit netflix from the actual settings in the app. Gear logo. Also, you can always do sign out of all devices from netflix.com and restart the tv app. It happened to me all the time before too, but hasn't happened in over a month or two now.

Is the KS8000 (KS7000 in eu) the tv to get in 2017 for gaming?

It was the tv to get in 2016... 2017 has all new models that should be reviewed and tested soon. We'll know exactly what sets have the best combination of things like HDR ability, brightness (non-OLED), input lag, etc.

But it is still phenomenal tv and will probably be clearance soon for stock as they make room for the 2017 models.

Yeah, well I meant at the reasonable price range. I'm sure the new models will be $$$$$ at first.

I tested yesterday and work great. Switching the HDR settings automatically. The only problem for me is that you can't control the colour. The input lag is 37ms, so it's not bad. You don't even notice the difference. But i will wait for samsung to fix the gaming mode...

Thanks for the info!

Fuck me if I can find the sweet spot for settings with Horizon Zero Dawn(dynamic contrast excluded!)
What are you all using for brightness levels - TV and ingame settings? Don't know why but sometimes I get the feeling I'm getting crushed blacks...

Brightness - 46
Ingame - 45

For you guys with the switch, does the input give you a nice Nintendo logo ala the Xbox and PlayStation icons?

Nope. Even more annoying, the KS8000 will constantly lose the custom settings for that input, resetting it to its default name and settings. This happens every single time you re-dock it, as well as when you turn it back on. I wish the dock actively put out a video signal at all times, even when the system was undocked, to prevent this issue.

There's some areas on the game where there's blacks that will always be black (supposed to be that way, and aren't crushed black. If you find a section where you think you're getting crushed blacks just crank up the brightness and see if any details appear. If you're seeing small details in blacks, such as the pattern on the metal floors in Cauldrons, you're probably not getting crushed blacks.

I was having the same problem, until I checked the settings... since the game has HDR support, you need to have Smart LED enabled on high or else everything will look extremely dark. I had it disabled until last night. 😒

I'm going to sound ridiculous asking this, but my KS8500 just came. This one-connect box is new to me.

Does this mean all hdmi ports are HDR with this? Previously I had a bravia which only 2 of the built in ports were HDR

Quite sure they are as it gives you the option to turn on UHD colour (which basically is HDR) for all of them. These are off by default so you need to turn them on.

No when I turn my TV on, it turns on the device of the port that's already selected. So its either my AppleTV, PS4, or XBO. Is there a way to turn that off? It's a real hassle. It never use to do this. :(

What's even the point of leaving the HDR/UHD color option disabled for any of the ports ? Things seem to work exactly the same when you have it enabled but hooked up to a non HDR device anyway. And all the 4 ports are the same right ? I have the PS4 plugged into port 4 (just because 4) but that one says Arc. Am I not supposed to use port 4 then or what ? Don't know anything about Arc.

ARC is an optional way to deliver audio both ways through an HDMI cable, in case you want it to go back to a receiver, and would rather use HDMI instead of optical.

You're absolutely fine if you just use it like any other port though.

No you don't. Just upping backlight to 20 should do it. Check that you don't have any eco settings enabled and that you aren't outputting the wrong color space because that could cause contrast to be overblown causing perceived dark image.

It only matters when connecting to PC in my experience. Some cables, despite being labeled HDMI High Speed, cannot handle outputting 4:4:4 so they result in either flickering image or no image at all. With UHD color turned off you might get a working image.
