Horizon Zero Dawn |OT| The Land After Time

Weapon mods are definitely what give your weapons punch. Tear rips off armor and any attached weapons, so that's really important for some of the larger enemies. But you don't need to use a tearblast arrow to get the tear effect if you just throw the mods on something strong.

Beyond that, focusing on elemental status effects (Fire = Damage over time, Shock = Stun, Ice = multiplied damage) will make combat less "spongey".

I haven't found much success with the Tripcaster. The Blast wire is good on herds, but sometimes it seems like the enemies just run right past it.

I still can't find the Shadow Outfits...wth
I go to Meridian and look at all the merchants but they only have 2 Shadow outfits for sale. I have 3 shadow outfits but it only says 1 in the Game Progression menu...are all of the Shadow Outfits purple Very Rare? How do I get them?
Anyone? This is the last thing I have to get to 100%, google isn't helping. Under "Shadow Items" I only have 1 outfit, and I think I need 9?

Try one of the merchants in another carja town. I really feel like most merchants were selling them.

ok got my first Stormbird kill
(needed the trophy for the sidequest)
and it was a super mess of a fight but hey it counts right!

and then I got my first Thudnerjaw kill
(also for the sidequest trophy
) and... lolwhut? I just froze him with arrows and then threw like 4 or 5 sticky bombs and he died >_>

that sure was anti climatic :D

OK, so I am still only 10hrs in, but how do I make combat less bullet spongy?

Arrows barely dent mechs without chucking tons at them, even firing fire at blaze canisters only takes about 25% off the health bar, and other parts take tons of arrows to break, even precision or tear blast arrows, I fought 3 tramplers and I felt like it took an age to defeat even one of them .

What am I doing wrong? do I need better weapon mods?

the elemental sling shots.

enemies that are frozen take 50% more damage. So if you freeze them then hit their weak spots you can take down stuff in a hurry. Add in good weapon mods and it is a gg

I don't think I really know how many outfits are even in the game. I feel like I haven't seen a handful.

Not many. Not sure how much of this is considered a spoiler now, so I'll be cautious.

Vendor stock (3 tiers of each), go somewhere like Meridian and you can see them all.
The one you unlock
via story (which adds a very rare version to the vendor).
The
Power Armour.

Right, so hitting parts (armour) that glow blue when hit are armour parts, and once those parts are gone you cause more damage if you hit that same area?

Tear damage basically increases the removal of these parts? and the normal damage stat (arrowhead pointing down) only really damages non armoured parts?

is it possible to aim between the armour plates with normal arrows?

Are the tutorial quests necessary for the platinum? The blast sling is low level but frustrating. Tried striders and grazers but it's not triggering multiple kills with one hit.

The game looks Bat sh*t Crazy during Night Time.Every 15 mins i have to pick up my Jaw from the floor.

There was a moment when some Grazzers were grazing in a Vast Valley and i was standing on top of the Hill. That f**ckin view man.Just stood there for 5 mins grasping the Moment from top during the Night .

Got in a Awesome fight with two Carriers at the back or whatever they are called.Combat is so freakin A here.

Then head to head with a Corrupted Sawtooth i guess, green one.My Arrows did no damage to him.Ran Away Quickly.

Only Nitpick right now is you cant climb everything and Human AI who bring the combat fluidity down.

Playing this game i feel i am playing a Movie.Jurassic park comes to my mind first. The World here is just something of a Sight to Behold.I have not even bothered with a Fast Travel Kit coz its just so f**ckin beautiful and adventurous to traverse the World.

Yep. Blast Sling + 3 purple damage coils is my go to when I just want to knock something sideways.

I do prefer the War Bow for element effects though, and corrupting from a distance.

All the vendors in the Meridian half of the map sell all the Shadow outfits...

I have Shadow Stalwart Light, Medium, and Heavy. What else is there? I don't understand this, I just went to 5 different merchants and they don't have any other shadow outfits except those 3, and even then it only says that I have 1 shadow outfit under "Shadow Items"

You're supposed to buy all the purple armor and weapons.

Tear damage basically increases the removal of these parts? and the normal damage stat (arrowhead pointing down) only really damages non armoured parts?

if you use the focus you can see which parts are soft spots. they are the yellow ones. typically if they aren't expose you will have to expose them with tear arrows. If you get the correct angle most weak spots can be hit without tearing off the plating (this is where the ropecaster is nice).

You can take armor pieces off and it will do more damage if you hit the same spot, but not as much if you hit their weak spots. Typical weak spots are guns/canisters on their back, their eyes, and for the larger machines they have a weak spot on their stomach/chest area. Tear damage is basically super effective on armor parts and weapons that are on the machine. You can hit the machines on parts of their body that aren't armored and do a normal amount of damage, but this is what will lead them to feel like bullet sponges.

You may have known some or all of this but yeah.

Sooo. Just got to my second cauldron..

Zeta, I'm level 20, have never faught a thunderjaw before. This thing handedly kicked my ass. It says it's a level 20 Cauldron, so I've got to be missing something. I could do nothing to even slow the pace of his onslaught. Ropes, bombs, traps, did nothing...
Help?

You can easily prepare for the fight in the cauldron. Put down traps and place tripwires before engaging the hack. A good tactic for fighting thunderjaws in general is to use the rope caster to tie them down and then to apply the ice status effect on them (you will do triple damage this way. You can also use a tearblast arrows to shoot of a disc launcher and use it against them.

Do you have tearblaster arrows? If so knock off it's 2 disc launchers and use them against it. Also set a lot of traps and bombs around the edge of the bubble before you let it loose.

Nope. Just a way to get some XP early on. You can go back and do those once you get the purple sling if you still want to do them.

I'm not sure if I did anything special, but when I got to Meridian, I basically could buy all the Shadow sets. They are the same as the Carja sets - so there's one for ice, fire, corruption, stealth, melee, ranged, and two "blank" three mod armors. I think only one is based on story progression as far as I know.

Nah, they're not much fun. Will finish off the collectibles in the visible part of the map before going back to the main quest which will start to uncover the north west part hopefully. And just one hunter lodge left. Should wrap it up next week.

I just activate them whenever I'm clearing out a corrupted zone or a bandit camp. But you can reach level cap without them (particularly since it's so easy to grind), so it doesn't really matter.

One of the bandits at Cauldron 11 fell in in a weird spot under a ramp down and I couldn't loot him. I had to use bombs on him to move the corpse slightly so I could loot through the ramp:lol

I'm really digging the story-telling in this game, it's absolutely fantastic. I've just beaten the mission taking place
in the Metal Devil area (where you find those dead soldiers) and all these sound and data files really help to get you immersed into what happened, I mean, I actually feel sorry about all the people that had to witness how the world went to shit when all the machines went rogue, and it even makes me think about the possibility of something similar happening in the future in the real world

I'm enjoying it a lot, don't wanna it to end :(

Guys, I got the platinum trohpy for the game already and now I'm trying to finish off some of the tutorials I didn't do. However some of the tutorials are simply not working (yes, I have them activated). Enrage 3 machines with corruption arrows for example, it just doesn't work. Shoot 3 freeze/shock cannisters isn't working either. I tried reloading the game with no success. Anybody else having the same problem?

Just beat this game today - hoooooooly cow. Wow.

Just... wow.

I'd give it 9.5/10 only cos y'all know it has some small issues - inventory, melee and AI as examples.

If there wasnt Zelda and Mass Effect out around now, I'd have just kept playing and doing every side quest/objective.

Still haven't dinsihed nioh and my le came. God damn to much games releasing so closely.

I only have regular arrows, and my ropes don't seem to affect him at all? I've managed to get one disc launcher off and get him down to one third health twice, but he always bests me. Looks like it's just going to take an extraordinary run of luck in. Dodging his attacks. Sometimes I can dodge them seemingly easy, and other times he will lunge at me and get 3-5 attacks on me chained together.. hard. But I'm going to give it a few more tries before reverting.

Is there a way to see on the map which camps have side quests available? I don't want to have to travel to each one just to check for green exclamation marks.
