iOS Gaming March 2017 | Switch to iOS

Don't make it your last post if it's something you enjoy. I like reading your posts because I'm playing it myself, and it actually makes me that bit more excited about progressing myself.

At the moment I have no idea what I'm getting for upgrading the house in the middle of the first island, and I guess I need wood and stone materials in order to build too, but that's just something I assume as the game doesn't tell me. But it makes sense lol.

---

I'm so hyped for Sunless Sea on iPad, that I might just install it on my PC now and see what it's about. Kind of getting the scent of it.

Haven't been posting or playing a lot of iOS games recently (Zelda 24/7 baby!) but I am glad to see the usual suspects in the thread and lots of GLORIOUS impressions from Pitta. ;)

You guys rock! I promise I'll be back in here soonish, ahaha.

Pang Adventures is at its lowest price ever.

Retro City Rampage DX is also on sale. Contemplating buying it.

Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 is also on sale if you don't have it already. It's a solid port and way better than RCT4.

Okay, so I'm on Day 18 and still haven't died. To my relief I've found more men I can hire, and found out a few ways to earn coins but there gotta be more ways to boost the economy,. The merchant isn't visiting me anymore either. Oh, and my horse can't drink from the water like the deers do, unfair.

This is probably the best iOS game I've played this year so far.

Keep checking in hoping that Ticket to Earth will pop up early like some of the other games in this indie promo have.

...not like I don't have other things to play though...

And for anyone who has a PS4, Nier Automata is absolutely GLORIOUS. Haven't mentioned it here previously for obvious reasons but I seriously think it's my favorite game of this gen on console. So, there, I've had my Pitta moment (even if a bit off topic).

I don't know of to say it nor how you will you cope with your time and wallet....but feel free to simply add Ticket to Earth on your most wanted list.

I'm super impressed.

A blend between Banner Saga, Steamwolrd Heist, Puzzle Quest and Dungeon Raid.
Yet, it feels really fresh and damn, it's SUPER polished.
The tutorial takes its time but when it opens up...woah, it really opens up.
So many choices, including during the fights, interesting story set in a credible world.
iCloud sync the icing on the cake.
Also, a big plus, fights while being pretty strategic doesn't seem (so far) to take ages....on the contrary everything is kept pretty compact for perfect playing on the go....unless like me you played one hour straight in the blink of an eye.

Definitely GLORIOUS so far.
It's episodic, right? How long is this first episode?

What is so special about Dearh Road to Canada anyway? I'm legit curious as to me it seems like just another twin-stick shoot 'em up?

Maybe still propagating but Ticket to Earth should be out.

Ticket to Earth di Robot Circus Pty Ltd

Now to see if the Pitta-hype continues to live up to the GLORIOUS standard yet again. ;)

Won't be able to play for a while though. Damn work.

Isn't it more of a survival game? Not sure myself but thought that was the case.

The skill and talents 'ladder' which you unlock some hours in in Ticket to Earth is massive.
MASSIVE.

Btw More_Badass, I was wrong about the game not telling it is a first episode....actually I just noticed the subtitle is EPISODE 1. Sorry.

It doesn't sound too interesting to be honest. The whole "using your characters for what they are best at" is not enough to get me interested. I hope there's some kind of loot / item management, and that it doesn't turn out to be just a roguelike, where if you die you start over anew. It would be cool if one could build bases and stuff like in Don't Starve.

Ticket to Earth is starting brutally kicking my ass, especially in the side quests.
Making the longest chains doesn't help anymore....you must be sure to end in a position where some enemies can't reach you, while building up your powers on the way (because standard attack is lame and take ages, with all unlocked characters so far).
So there is a really nice positional strategy on top of everything, another fav of mine (Card Thief is another awesome example of this, and Warhammer Quest back in the days).
On top of this, not sure if casual or not, but some evolved spiders are really nasty when it comes clearing your most wanted colors on the board disconnecting the paths you carefully and painfully slowly tried to make.

I love it.

I just can't get excited for mobile ports of PC Indies. Much much prefer them on Steam. Bring on stuff like Card Thief!

Ticket To Earth is really good. It's SRPG first, puzzle game second. I just unlocked the talent tree; this game has an impressive amount of depth. I only have one character so far, so the strategy and complexity is only going to increase when you have control of multiple characters, plus their abilities and talents

Depends IMO. Mushroom 11 and Papers Please play best on mobile, Steamworld Heist and FTL are so well translated that they don't even seem like ports, and games like Sunless Sea on mobile means I'll play it more than when it was on PC.

Yeah....but wait till you reach chapter two.
It's like you said, but TENFOLD.
Actually I'm amazed .... it's also so original....first chapter is just an appetizer...ranged weapons and area effects change EVERYTHING.

Even if it ends abruptly in one hour (I already played 5) it goes straight to the GOTY candidate list.
BTW...after you unlock something I won't spoil, you can replay each level (and some side missions are DAMN HARD) forever, making it endless (there is so much to grab anyway).

I would LOVE an async mp version where you select your character/playstyle/skills and fight against a friend.

Gameplay is really brilliant...it's so good I'm amazed nobody else thought about this before.
It's the first time since ages I really feel this formula fresh again.

Amazing week, got two of personal GOTY, totally unexpected (and I'm not even considering Card Thief).

Just 11 hours or so till Cosmic Express releases!

Never been too big into these train puzzlers. Not even Mini Metro held my interest.

Did want to echo Pitta's comments on Ticket to Earth though. It's phenomenal from what I've played so far. Excellently mixes the match-3 line-drawing mechanic of games like Dungeon Raid with more strategic turn-based RPG mechanics that make it feel completely different. Beautiful graphics and a nice story.

Gets my GLORIOUS seal of approval as well.

Only minor gripe is the name. I'm afraid that people may see Ticket to Earth and think it's a spin off of Ticket to Ride, which couldn't be further from reality.

That's what I and the other poster thought just by hearing the name. But I'm a bit wary about this one. I think I'm gonna hold out or put it on my wishlist together with Mushroom 11, because neither of those two seem like games I would get into immediately.

Think Ticket To Earth might warrant the first mobile OT of 2017. It's so good. I wouldn't even really call it a puzzle game. Matching is important for attacking and defense, but it's all in service of the turn-based tactical elements

Well if each episode is 5 hours+ of gameplay it might as well be 4 games to me.

Agreed. Seems to be plenty of content here. Pitta has played around 6 hours and is just on the second chapter of the first episode. Not sure how many chapters there are but even 6 hours for $4 is a bargain when the gameplay is this good and there's supposedly a lot of replayability.

Not disappointed in the least that it's episodic and will happily pay for new episodes (if they go that route which I'm not even sure they have decided).

I sound like a negative old fart, but I hate it when there's too much content, when it takes more than 4 hours to beat a game. My sweet spot is probably 4 hours unless the game is super captivating to me. I do think I will buy Ticket to Earth today if the story resume on the official website interests me when I've read it.

Like for mobile games or all games?

Btw, do you listen to the podcast The Short Game? It might suit your interests

Longer games are fine with me. My issue is with games that require long game play sessions.

I mentioned Nier Automata earlier and absolutely love the game. But will admit that I was pretty pissed that the first opportunity to save in the game was at least an hour into it. (Thankfully, save opportunities are much more liberally distributed from that point on)

I have problems blocking out long periods of time to play games even on console. Of course, on mobile I prefer shorter play sessions even more.

I'm really happy I bought Kingdom: New Lands though. I'm on Day 19 and noticed I got a knight but I don't know if I got him because I put up two shields on the building in the middle. And I have no idea how to get coins now, and I am badly in need of it so I can reinforce my defenses. I were out in the woods and exploring by the water at night and comes back to a stonewall broken and only one archer instead of three of them in my watchtower.

Oh, and did I tell you how beautiful this game is? Guess I'm okay with pixelart, just thought I had fatigue.

Welcome to my world :p

If you want to know how you got the knights....

Upgrading to the max your castle and then putting the shield insignia on the walls produce a knight.

Knights can raid, destroy portals and if levelled up can even fight against the big monsters (on later islands) and withstand attacks defending themselves.

If you lost archers that were on top of a tower...well...you missed a nice show....be sure to guide your men next time, be on the walls with them and watch :p

But don't worry, there is a lot worse :p

Oh then I was right about that one. Good to have confirmation!

[/SPOILER]
Wait a moment. I can
guide my men
? I thought there wasn't any direct interaction with anything in the world.

You can in certain circumstances.
Like raids, as I discovered not long ago.

Actually you have to....you'll see what I mean on third island.
But you already can.

Let me know if you need more info, but part of the fun is discovering all these things.

EDIT:Also It may be just my imagination but imho
keeping the king near the action gives bonuses to your men

The F2P CCG game Faeria that was mentioned earlier in this thread, is getting its first expansion pack this Summer. Named The Adventure Pouch, you get a brand new co-op campaign, time limited boss battles and new cards. And if you pre-order, you will get six cards and a card back. The game will also launch on Android next month bringing in more players.

Here's the trailer.

Wow, there hasn't been a mobile OT this whole year yet? You might need to then 😯

Kingdom: New Lands deserves an OT if the Steam release don't already have one.

Wow, I see I haven't bought OK Golf yet, how could I forget about that one. It's supposed to be so awesome, I'm gonna give it a try! I also bought Ticket to Earth just now. I'll see if it's something for me.

Oh sure, it's a personal thing I suppose. I'd rather play on PC in almost all circumstances, so I'm here for the exclusive stuff. I've played Papers Please on both PC and iPad, and didn't find that touch added that much to it. Although I'm keen on seeing how FTL works with touch, having never played it on PC.

Considering how the game's entire aesthetic and presentation is you in your booth, I felt that the 1:1 controls of touch added a ton to the game that mouse controls can't, since you physically have to drag tools out and move papers around and whatnot.
