Instant Fusion reprint has me considering a Thousand-Eyes Restrict deck...

Yeah I couldn't find a use for Illusion Magic in this deck at all. You come across Dark Magician quickly and efficiently enough with all the other cards.

It was dead weight in my testing. If you don't draw it by your 3rd or 4th turn you've most likely already got 2 Dark Magicians out of your deck. The card would be way more useful if it read 'Dark Magician monster'.

What are some good sites for ordering specific cards to build a deck?

I've been trying to get back into the metagame and try building a Cyber Angel deck from scratch.

Im getting back into yugioh after a few years away where I played mainly MTG or nothing. Picked up some packs of Shining Victories and have some Saga of Blue Eyes shipping in later this week.

I am building a Blue Eyes deck and then another one that I have yet to decide on. What are some decks right now? I was thinking a spellcaster deck?

I wanna get some modern decks (my last competitive deck was grave keeper with malefic star dust and xyz) but I don't wanna throw away money on a deck that'll get wrecked by links. Plus I have no one to play with in CT

Wait for the rule changes in June. Then start building a deck with Links in mind.

I haven't played in real life since the Extra Deck was still called the Fusion Deck and a lot of decks didn't even have one.
I am sort of considering making a comeback when link monsters show up.

I was really active during the 5ds/zexal stuff and mostly fell out because I moved away from my group that played. I'd suggest trying out one of the games from that era (last DS game is a pretty great game for the synchro era) since the game was fast but not the crazy fast game some people complain about now. Would also help to get familiar with the vast amount of cards you'll be seeing if you jump in during the Link era since you'll have 3-4 (dunno if you followed during GX era) eras of cards to learn.

If you need help with the new mechanics PM me.

I have finally made my peace with Links, I hate the way they're forced onto the player, but can't deny they are damn fun to play with..

Man this really should've been a separate format with the new rules and keep the old ones but with Links ):

I assume the upcoming TCG set 'Maximum Crisis' will have the Apprentice Illusion Magician and Chaos Scepter Blast cards?

Where on earth did you get that impression?

Hell, Scepter Blast is an anniversary pack card, we already know that's coming in Duelist Saga.

Extrapolation. The previous promo card, 'Delta the Magnet Warrior', ended up featuring in an upcoming TCG set.

Can you link your source for Chaos Scepter Blast? I feel like they would put this card and Apprentice Illusion Magician in a TCG set as secret rares as an easy way to milk Dark Magician deck enthusiasts.

I can imagine Duelist Saga will just have nonviable, purely collectable cards similar to Dark Burning Magic (perhaps Magical Pigeon and Dark Spear?), but I could be completely wrong.

Apprentice is one of the poll options for Jump promos so no. You have to hope it wins and then either buy it from someone that got it or subscribe to jump yourself. If you're from anywhere outside the US you're fucked and have to wait months after that for the more widespread release in a lower rarity as a promo card for some future set's special edition.

Can you clarify what makes Apprentice different to other Jump promos (e.g. Delta the Magnet Warrior)?

You could do your own research and see that the only known tcg locations of anniversary pack cards is of duelist saga, which was mentioned to have new signature move cards and fits in perfectly of what we know is in the anniversary packs.

And Apprentice Illusion Magician is in a shonen jump poll, it can't be in maximum crisis.

Delta wasn't a poll option for shonen jump alpha.

And show me where in Invasion Vengeance Krystal Dragon was.
Out of all card types, japanese promos can be absolutely anywhere.

Why can't elected cards like Apprentice be in a TCG set?

It's not that they can't AFAIK, but the very fact that they're only just deciding on where it should appear means that it can't be in any of the already announced sets because those are done months in advance.

The card WILL eventually be in a TCG set, but you have quite a wait for it.

Honestly, Japanese Jump promos is the worst thing to be for a card you want to play in the TCG. SPECIALLY if you're in any TCG area that's not the US.

To give you an idea of the usual timings look at the ones in the April 2015 poll

Beast Eyes Pendulum Dragon: October 2015 promo for SJ subscribers, then released as a promo in Breakers of Shadows Special Edition

DDD Oblivion King Ragnarok: rare in Dimension of Chaos

Frightfur Tiger: July 2015 promo for SJ subscribers, then released as promo in the special edition of Dimension of Chaos/Clash of Rebellions depending on where you live.

Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer: secret rare in Breakers of Shadows

Performapal Salutiger: common in Clash of Rebellion

Be still my beating wallet

At least assuming it wins the poll (very likely). All of the recent Shonen Jump promos have been printed in Europe as easy to get Special Edition promos. At worst, you'll be able to wait a few months after the US release and import the cheap European version.

I'm a filthy European peasant, so I will be
importing the Ultra Rare US version to go with my Ultra Rare Ebon Illusion Magicians

Geh really should be the poll winner. It's the best type of shonen jump card and it makes the others more likely to come out quickly.

I'm mad musashi is caught in there because Crystron need it as early as possible.

I'm gutted they didn't link that with the (tiny) Orichalcos archetype.

There is a physical Shonen Jump magazine in English? Why can't I see any listed on eBay?

There WAS a physical magazine. It moved to digital (UA/Canada only) like 3 or 4 years ago. Every now and then it'd come with promos in the magazine itself.

So do those with a digital subscription receive promo cards in the mail nowadays?

so i installed ygopro since with the upcoming link monsters i think it should be a decent enough time to get back to this
last yugioh i played was one of the psp games, someone recommended lightsworn so i played with it since it was a very easy deck to use
i know zoodiac is basically the strongest deck atm, but i'm looking for something easy to play with, is zoodiac easy?

So I can hope for new DM support in Duelist Saga. I really want Bond Between Teacher and Student.

I don't think they've had exclusives in supplemental sets like Duelist Saga - they're only ever in main sets like the upcoming Maximum Crisis and Code of the Duelist.

Also, the TCG exclusives have followed a fixed pattern for the last few years - there are two generic cards (set numbers 000 and 081), and the rest of the cards are split between two TCG-exclusive archetypes. Unless they change this pattern, it's very unlikely we'll get new Dark Magician support in those slots.

Are you referring to DSoD or Arc V? Or both?

Im referring to the Structure Deck Yugi and Kaiba, the Dragons of Legends set, Legendary Decks, Buster Blader Cards, Black Luster Soldier cards, Red Eyes cards...

Most of the big products last year were full of mediocre cards X character from the first series never used but would've totally loved!!

DSOD and ARC-V at least had the decency of featuring the old characters using some of the new stuff in their decks before it got printed. Not to mention they were fun animes.

In other news:

-Tokens and trap monsters can be used for Link summons, that means Scapegoat is an instant Link 4,3 or 2 if you activate it on your opponent's end phase. Links are making the game so slow guys!!

-The extra monster zone is only for when the monster is coming straight from the extra deck. Reviving it, taking control of it, banishing it and then SS it, all would result in the monster being sent to a regular Monster Zone. This is actually really cool.

Yes, the nostalgia products last year were sickening.

"Hey Guys have this cards the characters you loved never actually used, but they totally would have!"

Id you're talking about the Dark Magician/Blue Eyes support, I actually thought they were a fantastic idea. Making the most two iconic, most well known cards in the game viable to use again was something I really appreciated. Dark Magician especially is now super fun to use.

I have zero issues with the cards themselves. I love the DM and BEWD support

It's the giant amount of gen 1 pandering products that got tiresome for me.

For example booster sets with some of the coolest Arc-V cards were marketed as "The Return of the Black Luster Soldier/Buster Blader!" Instead of giving Arc V cards it's time to in the spotlight

Then Yugi and Kaibas Deck, then Yugis Legendary Deck, then Yugis Duelist Pack then Yugis Movie Pack...

I have similar feelings with Pokemon sometimes. Particularly during the X/Y saga

Hopefully, Link sets hype up Yusaku and Aoi a bit more.

The bigger problem was the number of different products, not the cards themselves.

We didn't need the millenium pack and two new duelist packs.
