So how bad is the Switch stock situation?

Damn - apparently Kohl's just had a starter bundle on their site for Switch + Pro Controller ($370). Sold out quickly, as you'd imagine, but based on the comments on NowInStock/Zoolert, seems it lasted longer than the Wal-Mart and Target stock from earlier in the week. Most likely no one was thinking to look there.

Not sure if there's any in-store availability, but maybe worth a trip (or a phone call) to your local Kohl's stores.

Just assume that anything that is actively tracked on NowInStock is going to be gone within 5 minutes and if you don't have Google Group alerts / SMS stuff connected, you stand no chance.

I just picked up a Zelda special edition bundle in my local mom and pop store, sitting there lonely on a shelf next to copies of Zelda and 1-2 Switch. Cost me $139( I live outside NA). Of course there's not a switch to be found anywhere in my country.

It seems pretty clear there is no 'second week' batch at this point. I wonder if Nintendo is doing monthly batches?

amazon here in the UK said they sold out of the first week allocation but it hasn't been available again as far as i know. they are just saying they'll have stock in 31st march.

however other retailers like Argos for example have had some stock the last couple days and smyths is due to get more next week i think.

Kohls was not listed, because no one knew this was going up in stock on that site, so there was considerably more time to place an order. I really missed my window of oppurtunity.

I kind of feel bad for you people actively trying to find one. Mine's just been sitting with Zelda in it and gathering dust. Even have a Pro controller. Maybe I'll try and get some playtime in today finally.

I know how you feel friend, I have to maintain a full time job and go to school full time, actually the most play time I get is probably at work during down time.

I don't want gray joycons?

I don't understand what you don't understand.

I imagine right at launch it shouldn't be too hard to sell the gray ones for around $80 if you never connect them to your Switch. Then just buy a pair of blue/red ones.

I guess the issue is...

-can you find a set of blue/red Joy-Cons (not sure if these are hard to find?)
-are you super particular and CANNOT have the red and blue colored switched for the Right and Left Joy-Con

Some Kohl's stores carry Nintendo hardware. Someone on the nowinstock comment thread mentioned walking into a store and getting one earlier today. Not all of them sell games, however.

It looks like they were up on the kohls site over an hour ago. Talk about a sleeper.

Edit didn't realize the original message about kohls was an hour ago.

The person who got one in store was totally random and that's why people checked the site.

To those of you who have experienced console shortages before, what is your best guess to when you can just go online and order a Switch without having to beat the clock or anything like that?

I don't know as well as some others here probably do, but it's entirely dependant on Nintedo. They operate in this space so differently from Sony and Microsoft it's bizzare

Probably just before the release of Mario Kart. Might be shortages again after that though.

I'm guessing June/July they'll be on top of their supply. Doesn't make sense launching 2 big titles( Mario Kart and Splatoon 2) over the next 3 months and have people scrambling around trying to find a system.

A lot of places still have it in stock In New Jersey (USA).

No Switch rush here, people mostly play PS4/XB1 as far as I know.

A lot of people bought the Wii U for cheap and got it on that.

Of course NoA won't cover it, it's a NoE Switch. I wouldn't import any hardware, games is fine but with hardware you'd want to be able to send the stuff back to the retailer you bought if from if you have any warranty issue.

Fearmongering at its best. Try calling/e-mailing some Nintendo folks to ask about specific hardware warranty questions, there are conflicting reports saying they will or will not cover it in NoA. Worst case scenario is that you have to ship it to Europe, which (as we've just seen from Amazon.es orders) should take about 3 days.

It's a risk you take to get it now and for retail. At the end of the day you can get it serviced through NoE, the shipping will just be more than you would typically pay.

But in all honesty, I've never exercised the limited 1-year warranty for any gaming system, except for the notorious xbox360's RROD.

Folks in that area have been looking for one on GAF. Help them out!

Thanks.

I'm on the lookout but not being super vigilant. And it doesn't seem like that method is going to pay off anytime soon. But maybe I'll get lucky, who knows.

I had to go to NY the other day for buisness, I'm based in Philadelphia. I worked my way back down the state of NJ and didn't find one at any retail locations, sooooo I don't believe you.

Where in NJ are you? In my area it's been barren
I checked Elizebeth, Trenton, Camden, Sicklerville, Hamilton, New Brunswick, Cherry Hill, Maple Shade, Jersey City, and some others, nobody had them.

Yeah was gunna say I've only seen them in random locations with "limited stock" when checking online. The closest one to me was Bayonne and I'm not driving an hour to friggin Bayonne.

Yeah depending on region there's a strong degree of chance/luck at the moment. I just lucked into a special edition Zelda bundle on my lunch hour, wasn't even looking for it. But I live in a remote location so the chances of that kind of thing happening are greater than a major city/area.

Considering there are many in here from NJ with no Switch I'm guessing iHaunter may be off base here.

Saying "people mostly play PS4/XB1" is just about the most anecdotal statement I've read on the internet. NJ population is 9 million haha.

Also Amazon's global policy is that if the product has a defect you can return it to them within 30 days of receiving it and they will pay for shipping, and you have a choice of a full refund or a free replacement. If you don't encounter a problem in 30 days it's unlikely you will in the first year either, making the warranty a moot point.

Where have you seen them? I'm in Toms River (Central Jersey) and have called basically every store within 40 miles, with nary a Switch to be found.

It's a bizarre statement in every way. Of course people are mostly playing those systems. They've been out for over three years.

Got to say my mind is blown how hard it is to track down the official carry case (in any color). No stores my area have and Amazon says 1-2 months...

I just want my switch to be safe when I carry to the studio each day. Is that so much to ask for? This better be an amazing case when I finally get it.

On the plus side I found the amiibos I wanted easily (or maybe I just got lucky)

Offical case has different colors? I thought that was exclusive to My Nintendo Store Japan.

And it's not an amazing case in my opinion, it's a little tight, but I'm glad I got it, was a great deal for the case and screen protector.

So we are on the same page I was looking for this one: Amazon

If there is another one that someone likes better I am open to checking it out. I just want to keep my baby safe.

That's not the one people refer to when they say "official case", the one you liked to is made by RDS. The "official case" is made by Nintendo.

It seems like a lot of third party cases are officially licensed by Nintendo though, and they all seem to be out of stock.
