Marvel's Iron Fist |OT| Hi-yahh - March 17th on Netflix

Thread. Well put and said. Even with the way you split up the season arcs I didn't think about it like that. Missed oppurtunity cannot be said enough.

The two halves of Daredevil S2 feel like different shows.

Honestly I could do the same for the two halves of Luke Cage.

I like Danny in this version, so it keeps me going. Coleen is very fun too. Fights are a bit too slow but I enjoy how different his style is compared to Daredevil. Plus at least here the Hand seems somehow more interesting than in Daredevil S2.

Yeah, it's a good Danny origin story. Much better portrayal than in the Ult. Spidey cartoon too.

And yup, the Hand feels much more like the Hand I know from the comics here.

After episode 7, I am enjoying the boardroom stuff, given the vehicle Rand Enterprises turns out to be. And I like how this Danny Rand is relentlessly altruistic in a genuine way. Reminds of old comic book Peter Parker.

Man watching this I'd really like to see the Houston Kaine Scarlet Spider storyline in a show like this.

Too bad that ain't happening, too much pre-setup required.

Maybe I just want Chris Yost to continue his Kaine/Aracely storyline.

luke is more entertaining once he starts hanging out with danny hope they carry that over well in the defenders

I'm actually curious how (or if) they'll handle that BFFs bromance, because Netflix Luke Cage seems like Netflix Danny Rand would annoy the shit out of him, rather than find him endearing

I just want more JJ and Luke now. I don't care about the Punisher when he's not being a side character.

And I officially give negative fucks about Danny after this show

About 5 eps in and well... so far I have to say it's looking like my fave of the Marvels. I've enjoyed them all without feeling bored. Which has been a problem with the other shows at times. Looking forward to watching the rest as opposed to "I'll sit through it to see if it gets better".

Why not just skip the origin bullshit and just adapt Brubaker's seven capital cities of heaven?

They have to shoot in New York and this story is just cheaper. The same boardroom, penthouse, and dojo sets cost them a song.

I watched the first episode last night. I honestly didn't mind it too much; it was a bit slow, and Danny came off as a total madman, and the fights were a little short to gauge any sort of choreography, but it was nothing terrible like some of the reviews would have had me believe. I didn't exactly have the highest expectations for the series to begin with, so I was pleasantly surprised. It's certainly not going to win any awards, but it seems perfectly watchable so far--more on the lines of an Arrowverse show.

episode 5 when ward says
he was talking about a dragon, he's in a completely different world, joy.

and joy responds saying, he lives in ours now.

was that the Thrones reference?

edit: and had a friend at the monastery named
Davos
?

edit: nvm on the earlier edit.

There was a scene in Luke's series where it's established he really likes old Kung fu movies. I can see that being a starting point.

Up to Episode 4: Wait did they make
Madame Gao's organisation the Hand? The heck. Is this gonna be a twist that it's not the Hand?

It also establishes Danny Rand was a Big Pun fan when he was 10, but I really hope they don't go "Hey, I like Kung Fu Flicks!", "Hey, I like Hip Hop!" "Are we... best friends now?"

Watching episode 9:

Gao playing mind games. I'm just waiting for Danny to yell out, "She wanted to be caught!!"

Kind of funny how many people who like the show have to throw in that they think people who dislike it are nuts.

Like chill, you're allowed to like it, and people are allowed to dislike it.

Episode 8: I knew the whole
Chinese vs Japanese sword style
flirtation scene was foreshadowing. But lord it took a long time.

episode 5
how did the bullet the guy shot go through the inner room of the truck, out of the container and into Colleen's windshield?

Yea and it was about as bad as one expected. Like there's one part where Colleen swings her sword and it just looked terrible, like the other actress was waiting for her to swing it and Colleen was late or something.

Just watched episode 6. The RZA should have been the show runner.

When this show was coming out and i heard the panning of the reviews, half-jokingly i thought to myself: Well, I'll at least watch the episode RZA directed. It will be the best episode in the series

Now that i have finished the series, i didn't think the show was that bad as the critics said though i have some serious problems with it. But i would never believe that my prediction would come true.

The sixth episode of the series, "Immortal Emerges from Cave", directed by RZA, is by far and away the best episode in this entire series. And i believe the reason for this is RZA's clear love for the genre.

RZA love for martial arts movie is a known fact. Wu-Tang Clan "Mythos" and "Imagery" is one deeply rooted in his and his "brothers" love for Shaw Brothers Classics. His sole directorial work his a love-letter to the genre. A deeply flawed one, perharps because of producer intervention, but a deeply flawed one.

But gets it. He understoods that the Kung Fu genre is a colorful one, and of course his episode is the most over-to-top and colorful in the series.

"Immortal Emerges from Cave" is honestly genre schlock. But in this world where a kung fu tv series has pretty par kung fu scenes, the genre schlock provided by RZA is a huge breath of fresh air in this tv series. He revels in in the genre that he truly loves.
Theres a tournameth of death with specific code of honor. The opponents all have different gimmicks and masters that they pledge their alliance to. They're from all around the world.

The episode is also the most stylish one in the series. The flashbacks in this series are honestly, pretty badly shot with a pretty cheap special effect. But in the RZA episode,
the appearace of Danny's Master maybe through telepathy or purely Danny's hallucinating his training is done in a very cool way. Iron Fist going against the teachings of his master in the end is honestly probably the best moment of this fucking series.

Even then theres some problems. I really appreciate the diverse opponents in this episode, and i appreciate how RZA used the arenas in this episode, but while he clearly loves the genre he doesn't quite know how to shoot an exciting fighting scene. The action in this episode is pretty subpar as far the genre goes. It's a similar problem with Man With the Iron Fist: As much RZA loves it, Bautista, Russel Crowe and Himself aren't Kung Fu Masters and so the action scenes in his movie suffer from it. Perharps it was thanks to the intervention of the producers but the problem repeats here: Quite frankly, Finn Jones and his supporting cast can't sell a kung fu stance to save their lives. The fight against
Karaoke Man
is probably one of the best in the series but its still a very poor fight by any martial arts movie enthusiast standard of any kind.

I understand they picked Finn not because of his stuntwork but because of his acting ability (not that i think his acting skills in this show are that good tbh), but unfortunately you can't ran away from the fact that this is a series about magical kung fu man. The decision to not use a mask, was a poor one.

Perharps its just coincidence that RZA got a hold of the most zany of the episodes, but kudos to whomever made that call. "Immortal Emerges from Cave" is the best episode in the series and made me wish that RZA directed the whole show.

Man. I didn't HATE this show, but what a bummer it is. I didn't even have a problem with any of the acting or characters or any of that.

The simple fact that 13 episodes where NOT A SINGLE FUCKING THING HAPPENS exists goes down purely to the plotting/writing of this series. There's no reason it should have taken 13 hours to show me absolutely nothing.

The other Marvel Netflix shows have their mid-season slumps where you're like "Eh, this show could be 3 episodes shorter and it'd be better" but this entire show felt like one of this. Iron Fist could've been 12 episodes shorter and gotten accross everything it managed to do in the entire series, and that is a huge bummer.

Wait, what? Can anyone elaborate on this spoiler? I watched the entire thing and I never noticed it.

my guess would be
she came from k'un lun and shes not actively trying to kill danny only help him unlock his full potential as iron fist and that she claims shes been around for centuries

in regards to Netflix MCU, I thought Nobu's was the Hand, not Gao. So when they are introduced in Daredevil they were always part of the same cult? They never really seemed associated.

Well....

Late series spoilers... don't read if you haven't gotten to episode 10.

it seems different parts of the hand vie for different goals. Bakuto openly waged war against Gao. I also believe Madame Gao has her own goal that is not The Hand's goal.

Barring some development related to this in the last three episodes:
She didn't seem to have any kind of antagonistic relationship with Nobu back in Daredevil, though, which one would expect if they represent rival factions of the Hand. It's fairly apparent that her being involved with the Hand at all is a retcon.

I'm not deep in the iron fist lore, did they just write the
hand
into his story for easy pre-established villains and henchmen?

edit: WHELP ! nvm on that spoiler question lmao.

Also, I like how they randomly
put Ward back on Heroin after not using any type of drug for like 4 episodes <rolleyes>.

Problem with Luke is (well my problem with Luke) is ....He has zero fighting style. He is just bullet proof, hay makers and .....Like he is not exciting to watch fight at all.

I don't know who
Bakuto
is so this must be in an episode later on
no just tv magic logic
oh
Haha, no dude. Just plot magic - it made the scene slightly cooler.
oh I see, well it didn't make sense so I can't say it was so cool for me hah
