After playing well over 100hrs of Zelda with the pro controller, I gave portable mode a try for a couple of hours this morning and it's pretty terrible from an ergonomic standpoint. Not quite 3ds bad, but it isn't a whole lot better.

This is kind of why I didn't buy a pro controller yet, so I can actually get used to the Joycons. After spending an extensive time with Zelda I actually feel super comfortable with them.

Did you enjoy the Wii U gamepad? How does it compare? Im probably one of the rare here but i really enjoy the Wii U gamepad. I got no problem playing Zelda on wii u with it.

I think the buttons on the Joycons are smaller but I ended up enjoying it so much more than the Wii U gamepad because of the matte finish instead of the glossy one.

I really enjoyed the Wii U gamepad as well. I certainly get complaints over it's build quality, but comfort wise it was and is leagues better than the 3ds and Switch in handheld/portable mode.

At this point I'm hoping someone creates a screen mount for the pro controller because I just cant see myself ever opting to use the joycons attached unless absolutely forced to.

I did the same thing. I waited before buying a Pro controller to get very comfortable and familiar with the JoyCon. Granted, the Pro controller is WAY more comfortable, I can still easily play going back with the Grip or in handheld.

Can I transfer game updates from internal storage onto the SD card? I just got around to purchasing one and it appears I can only move screenshots over and nothing else.

Note i'm not speaking about save date (I know that's locked to internal storage) but any other data that's associated with (cartridge based) games.

Not that I'm aware of sadly. :(

I hate to say it, but even though I own and played through LEGO City Undercover on the Wii U, I'm seriously thinking about double dipping on the Switch. Is co-op the only major feature/addition?

Shiny new console is one hell of a drug!

Are you guys adding a memory card right away or since the Switch doesn't let you select where you want to download a game, either internal memory or additional memory card, you are waiting to fill the internal memory first leaving some memory space for saves and then installing the additional memory card? If waiting to fill the internal memory, what's a safe size to leave for internal saves, maybe 5GBs?

I'm definitely waiting, for three reasons:
1. I don't need the space right away
2. By the time I need it, SD card prices will have come down
3. I plan to go physical as much as I can. Cartridges FTW.

Quick Zelda performance question. Is anyone else having a small issue with the game stopping briefly? I was on a snow cover mountain fighting three black goblins on top of one of those wood structures they hang out on and one was firing arrows at me and the game just stopped briefly. It didn't lock up it just stopped and I had to wait a couple of seconds. I play the game from a game card. Sorry if already discussed it just started to bug me while playing.

I also have this issue occasionally.

A couple seconds seems a bit long, but I've definitvely seen 4-5 half second freezes for no obvious reason.

It may be more comfortable to grip, but I really like independant hands (and really light controllers). The only thing that prevent me from using the small controllers more is that I almost always use the tablet as screen, and when on a table, it's small and low :/

Yea it was very brief not super long. I may have over estimated the time on that but I'm glad it not just me. Thank for the replies.

Can anyone here help me? I'm importing a Switch from the States which I bought from someone. They're asking for a receipt at customs otherwise they won't release the package, and I don't have any. Could someone be so kind as to provide me a receipt for it with any and all identifying information scrubbed off of it, just the Switch itself and the MSRP paid?

Lego City Undercover really is the best Lego game. I would think just the improved performance(either a locked 30 or 60fps!?) for the Switch version is a major addition-let's face it, the Wii U performance was absymal...but still a fun game. Speaking of frame rate, have they announced what it'll be for the Switch?

Anyways, co-op on the Switch will be awesome. I pointed out to my son it had co-op and it releases next month and he looked at me like "are we gonna get it?" and I said "don't worry, we're getting it!" and he let out a huge smile.

I'll gladly double dip for a vast majority of the Wii U catalog if it means we'll get better performance from them.

I miss the load screens and tunes from the Wii U that appeared when you clicked on the games icon in the main menu. On Switch you just get a black screen with the Nintendo and Switch logos in the corners.

This was the one in Wind Waker HD and I loved how you could hear the sea.

You can test it out and report back...lol. If the DLC items unlock works on both accounts then we will know for sure.

Kind of late here, and this may have been answered, but it works. I purchased the DLC on my account, and it unlocked it for both me and my fiance (separate accounts and separate Nintendo accounts). So DLC unlock is device wide I guess, which makes sense.

I disagree. It's not perfect but it's way better than 3DS (at least the original one). 3DS gives me hand cramps after like 30 minutes, switch doesn't even bother me much after an hour or so

Damn I miss those too. Almost every game I own has a beautiful splash screen. Here's hoping they'll be back later.

I've done 45 hours of Zelda so far. And handheld mode is my least favourite way to play. TV with Pro Controller then Tabletop. Then Handheld.

Every time I slightly fumble the thing I get more annoyed that it's a handheld lol. One of these days I'm gonna drop it and break it somehow. I'd keep it in the dock all the time but I take it out to attach/remove the joycons because doing that while it's in the dock jostles it around a lot.

It might still get. Though I really hope they'll actually do so. I loved these!

Uuuggghhh. Seems like its one thing after another with these joycons. Gotta send my extras in for repair, as well as one of the ones I had sent before. The side railing moves slightly on two of them, they wobble a bit, and one's rumble sounds like a spring is going off inside it. :/

Thank god my Pro Controller works basically perfectly.

Was hoping after 2 weeks to see what accessories my local Target would have, particularly if the Switch is hard to come by. Nope. Everything except the car charger and a few joycons. Tons of Zelda and a few Bomberman tho.

Check out the Zelda thread last few pages. I had the same issue today fighting a group of moblins on a snowy mountain.

Well the 3ds doesn't set a high bar and the fact that the Switch is better, by whatever amount, doesn't make it ergonomic. It's my biggest disappointment in the unit. Great concept and I understand compromises must be made, but I just have no desire to play in portable mode as is.

You have to go online for the good stuff. Although my local Walmart randomly got a shipment of 7 Pro Controllers the other day, right after I ordered one from Amazon.

I've been traveling a bit, the anker powerport 4 was able to charge and let me play the switch and also charge 2 iPhones and an ipad pro, the large one. I'm impressed.

Sorry if it's slightly off topic, but has anyone else experienced slow, horizontal screen tearing that moves from the top of the screen to the bottom, before going away completely? It happens once every few hours or so, but it's hard to ignore while it's there.

I've only seen it, occasionally, in Zelda so far, but I'm trying to diagnose the problem here. I can't tell if it's an issue with the game (unlikely) my TV's settings (possible), the dock, or the system itself.

Any help would be really appreciated. It's completely tolerable since it doesn't happen often, but I'm hoping it's not a symptom of a defective console.

Could be related to the dynamic resolution scaling interacting poorly with your TV? That is just a complete stab in the dark.

I agree with you on this. I have been playing BotW on Switch and had become used to a silent startup for the game. I also bought the Wii U version of BotW and lent it to a friend so that he could play it. I went over to his place to watch him play and had totally forgotten how nice it is to get a little bit of something before the game starts up. It's always the small details.

So... My pro controller is giving me problems now and I don't know how to fix it. It just started randomly as well. Was just playing Waku Waku 7 and it started wiggin out and I noticed it when my character was moving left on its own. It's been good to me till today.

This controller has NOT been dropped or anything of the sort and has been babied.

Got a video of the issue. This is disappointing as heck since this has been my main controller for Zelda.

https://youtu.be/lPheT07krQ8

I'm putting in a request to Amazon for a replacement.

That's possible. Only other person I saw with this issue was also dealing with resolution problems related to docking/undocking the system.

I'll see what I can do about it.

I had this happen, I think it's some weird sync issue from the joycons being active with the pro controller. I can't remember what I did that fixed it, but I remember redoing the controller selection on the home screen, taking joycons off then back on the unit. It's never happened after that.

Could you clarify a bit? I'd rather not have to go through the replacement process especially since the controller is out of stock in Amazon.

I've seen it from others I believe, but I've just noticed small battle scars on my Switch. Light surface scratches on the back of the console where the matte black finish is. Nothing major, just something I've seen it incur during it's portable travels and only visible in the right light.

Anyone else notice these light scuffs on the back? Am I crazy, or is it just the finish and material and something unavoidable?

Couldn't find an answer to this anywhere but I remember Nintendo PR mentioning the existence of download play (1 cart multiplayer) on switch. Did anyone see anything in the settings that confirms this?

My controller seemed like it was acting weird. I was playing handheld, then swapped to pro controller and noticed the same thing. Character kept moving randomly at times, then I checked controller calibration and noticed it did it in the menu too. I slipped the joycons off the tablet, then put them back on. Then I used the controller option on the home screen to redo the controller order and only activated the pro controller. My switch works fine now with joycons or pro controller. I'm not sure if there was a sync issue that was causing it.

I had a similar issue with my Steam\Xbox controllers both connected to my PC with some games, that's the only reason I figured it was the controllers messing with each other.

I don't remember if I did anything else that could have fixed it, but the issue went away.

Edit: Thinking about it, I think the issue originally happened when I tried using my Switch in tabletop mode but with the joycons still connected, and playing with a Pro Controller. I was playing Zelda in handheld mode and then just activated the pro controller. I'm wondering if it caused the unit to think I was using it in handheld so the joycon\gyro stayed activated even when I was using the pro controller. The issue then carried over even when docked onto the tv.

Alright, I turned on the console with the joycons undocked. Then I plugged the Pro Controller in and pressed the Home button. It seems to be acting the way it should now. Went through the calibration process as well as the button test and all seem good. Weird problem to run into though.

Even in tabletop mode I always just keep the joycons attached when I use the Hori stand I bought. Never gave me an issue. You must be right though. Must have just been a sync issue.

Has anyone have their Switch fan just randomly get super loud while in handheld mode?
When I first turned on Zelda yesterday morning and went into an area in the Northern part of the map that was very dark (so the Switch wasn't rendering much) the fan on my Switch got super loud for a minute or two then it went back to being so quiet I couldn't hear it like normal.
I actually wasn't sure what was making the sound at first because I've never heard the Switch fan before.

Yep I have this exactly, but haven't seen anyone else with the same issue yet. The thing seems very sensitive to scuffs that wear down the finish. Apparently even vinyl skins will wreck the finish so dbrand and other companies won't be making any.

Mine has done this quite a few times also. If I put it to sleep and then unlock it again it stops immediately and then stays quiet. Strange.
