Having a blast with this game so far. I played the original so I know the basics, though the new bosses and enemies are throwing me for a loop.
I beat the first final boss on my second seed. I tried the first seed I got a couple times since it gave me an item that let me see and enter hidden rooms right off the bat. Unfortunately, the item from lower floors weren't very good.
My second seed had some amazing luck. I got a combination of items that gave me Midas touch, blood counters to damage, a familiar that healed me when it killed an enemy, a fairy to show me secret, and show much money I literally used over 100 coins in slots. I think I had 5 extra soul hearts for the boss fight.

Finally beat mom for the first time (probably my 15th seed, lol). This is the first time I've played BoI, and I'm really enjoying it. I will say that as a noobie, it's really hard to tell what is new and what is old content... but there seems like a lot in here.

Even if it clutters the screen, it's nice to have an option to show all the stats. I don't remember that from Rebirth.
Restarting from scratch made me feel terrible at this game, but there's a simple joy to unlocking stuff between all the "fuck you, game" moments.

God, been playing this non stop since Friday. The portable mode is the best / worst thing ever.
I haven't played Zelda since I bought this.
I just had a run where I got no damage ups and no speed ups (I was Maggy and I haven't completed April Fools yet so this really hurt) but I somehow managed to pull out a win. Thank goodness for that I am drowsy pill that I popped on the last boss. Obviously I didn't make boss rush on this run.
The first print run comes with some cool goodies. If you don't care about them then go digital.
Definitely donate. The unlocks you get from it are very good, especially the shop upgrades. The unlocks from some of the challenges are also very good. I recommend beating 2, 8, 9, and 16 as soon as you can.

Yes and yes to both coin bank and challenges. The challenges are generally pretty short, just the first 5 floors or whatever and you get an easy unlock. Donating to the bank will up the number of items the shop sells.

No (Although there are a couple of unlocks related to the daily challenges). On the main menu there is an option called challenges just below the continue option. Each of these challenges will unlock something when you beat them.
Yeah, just realized it's in stock at best buy. I saw that it's not available on Amazon so assumed the worst. Thanks for the heads up!

There's no real point on playing hard mode until you unlock the final two chapters. Once you do then there's no point in playing on normal mode.
That "limited availability" meme sure worked. People think it's rare yet it's still in stock at most stores and online.

I dunno what I expected but I was kinda disappointed to see the "Steam Sale" item wasn't changed to "eShop sale" or something. I still chuckled though.

Best buy is specifically advertising the stickers and manual and it has been in stock since launch day. I bought my copy from Target and they had about 12 copies. The next copy after mine had the sticker on the front so I am assuming all the other ones behind it were also the first print edition.
Ooh thanks for this, I guess the club didn't look anywhere but Amazon for this but I sent out the info on the BoI from BestBuy so that our gameroom has this with the Switch at the club for uni.

Just got home and tested. His default charge attacks worked just fine on both Pro and Joy-Con controls.

Yep, you are totally shooting tears. The left top shoulder does bombs, I think. Left bottom shoulder uses some kind of item. I think left bottom shoulder is a one-time use item, and I can't recall what top right shoulder does.
To be frank, while the controls are simple enough, there's a lot of info to soak up about this game. It's intriguing.
You'll get there. The right combination of items and a bit of skill does wonders.
Every new run is basically hard coded. When it generates it also generates a seed that you can see in the pause menu. That can be entered to share with others to share great runs or really fun ones, or to just play along with streamers/YouTuber's.

Each run you start has a unique seed string, if you fail and really want to redo the same exact level, you can input it's seed string and do it again, or share it with others etc.
Press X while selecting a character to input a seed. The seed is the set of eight characters you see in the top left when the game is paused. It controls everything that's determined by randomness, so if you input a seed you'll get to play the exact same run (same items/rooms/enemies/bosses) as someone else.
Oh dang. Is there a database of seeds with certain builds to try out?
Just keep in mind that there are no unlocks when playing seeds so don't think you can cheese them by finding a good run online and using it's seed.
Don't expect much. They haven't patched other console versions in almost a year (maybe more?)
