Um, so I bought this game on Friday, but I hadn't taken the shrink wrap off until now....Popped it in, downloaded an update, and now every time I try to boot it up, I get an error message: The software was closed because an error occurred.

Can't boot it up at all :(

Have you tried deleting the patch/game data and starting it after that in flight mode without the patch? And then redownload it again, just to see if you maybe got unlucky and have corrupted patch data?

If you press + on the home screen at the game icon, you can also check for corrupted data I think.

I tried checking for corrupt data on mine, and it did not find anything. Nicalis software always has weird bugs, unfortunately. 3ds had a bunch. I tweeted Edmund and Tyrone about it...we'll see what happens. Been playing without the update, and no issues otherwise.

Same thing was happening to me. It took a handful of tries of deleting data and reinstalling, but it's now working fine with no issues. I know it isn't the best, but my suggestion is to keep trying things in a different order. It'll catch eventually. It worked for me.

New player here, downloaded the game to my Australian Switch. US e-shop wouldn't accept both of my Aussie Credit Cards so just grabbed some e-shop point cards from Play-Asia (instant codes on payment, been using them for years).

I wasn't overly impressed at first, but found the game super addicting after a few hours. Managed to beat xxx on my second run, and xxx''s xxxxx a bit later that day.

The visual aesthetics are complete shit and the music is non-existent. Some runs I'm just fodder because of crap items, and others I'm a killing machine. Still plenty to unlock, so will keep at it for many more hours I think.

Good purchase...I think.

I have a little problem. I know I should have used a seperate Account to begin with but well...
So I have switched my Account Region to US (thus deleting the Fund) but after buying Isaac and wanting to switch back to Europe, I cant, because he says there is still fund left. So maybe he cannot delete it because my Account is not linked to a NNID. Maybe someone here with an US Wii U could make a dummy NNID that I could link and maybe it should work then. Would be really awesome if someone could do that for me. (PM would be prefered).

I think you're screwed until you spend the cash in your account. Nintendo changed this recently.

Yeah, me and a few others are in this same boat. Sucks that you can't forfeit that balance of 0.01 cents. Oh well. I guess this account is now my main US account and will make a new EU account

Thats odd, because on my transfer to US i could delete my 1 Cent left on my EU Account. Well maybe I find a working Credit Card, that should solve it pretty quick. Or i will contact Nintendo. Still I think it could have something to do with the NNID that was connected.

Thanks! Are they reputable and safe to buy from?

Yep. I purchased from them many, many times. It was the only way I could get eShop cards while I was in Japan since the U.S. eShop wouldn't take my credit card and Amazon wouldn't let me ship them to Japan. They give you the code you can enter so you get the information that day. Definitely worth it.

Be sure to do the challenges too. Many of those unlock powerful items in the game. A good starting one is It's in the Cards.

Computer Savvy has a decent unlock and is the easiest challenge in the game, that's worth doing.

The reward for High Brow is game breaking, so try to brute force through that one, even if it's kind of difficult.

I hope it is! I'll complain and get money off if it isn't :p

Complain anyway for the delayed shipment. I spoke to them yesterday over live chat after the uncertainty, and the agent I spoke with offered to credit $10 back to a giftcard once it finally ships. I'll use that on an eShop card down the line.

EDIT: Or actually, if we end up with physical releases of 1001 Spikes or Cave Story, I'll use it on those. Because there's no chance they'll see a simultaneous EU release either.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
So... conensus on the Switch version? Concerned about the performance issues, but it sounds like not everyone's experiencing them, and like it's something that could be patched.

Thinking about keeping this version because of the progression that no other BoI release has, since they require you to unlock the Afterbirth and AB+ stuff.

It's good.

It's looking like the Switch exclusive unlocks are coming to PC.

Probably nothing that they can fix completely since it's based on the game logic being pushed to its limits, but it does seem to be fairly mild in comparison to what it was on previous versions and they could probably optimize it a bit.

Hopefully the progression that they've set up for this version makes it to other platforms, because now I can actually just recommend newcomers to this version rather than telling them to hold off on the expansions until they get a little deeper in.

The Switch progression is almost certainly coming to the PC in a month or two. Edmund was poking around last night getting feedback if PC people wanted it, and it was an overwhelming consensus that the PC version needs that progression.

Man I forgot just how brutal this game can be...can be going through a run just wrecking shit and feeling invincible and the a wrong move here or there and it's all over....

The punishing aspect of this followed by the subsequent rewarding feeling is so awesome...

Enjoying playing this game so far! I tinkered around a bit when I got the earlier version free via PS Plus but didn't really gel with me at the time. "Beat" the game for the first time earlier getting to
Mom.
However, I used
Azazel
which definitely felt like it made the game easier, though perhaps I just got lucky with which power ups and items I got on that run. Either way, enjoying it lots on Switch and looking forward to delving deeper into the game.

Haven't had any detrimental performance issues on my end, although I imagine the issue is exacerbated by the number of enemies onscreen and power ups one possesses.

I ended up with a combo last night that could cause instant slowdown. High rate of fire + ability to detonate tears, basically.
Brimstone + Inner Eye alone did it for me yesterday

It's not really a big deal. It only makes the game easier if anything.
Is it not really a big deal because you're tolerant of issues like that or because it's only minor slowdown?

I really enjoy Isaac on PC running perfectly smooth no matter what craziness is thrown at it, so I'm not super stoked to hear of reproducable slowdown here. I had hoped we had left that behind with the (now pretty much unplayable) flash original.

How do you get on the US eShop? changing my region to america doesn't seem to do the trick unless I'm missing another step
Make a separate account with an US address and load it up with US point cards from an international retailer (I used play-asia). The game will be playable with every account on the Switch.

Contact Nintendo and ask them to remove the leftover credit.

I've chalked up any issues I've run into thus far onto A) ring rust, B) so many choice items I'd come to depend upon being locked away and needing to be unlocked again and C) loads of new items from Afterbirth and Afterbirth+ to get a handle on.

That plus I can't just ignore the crap items right now because I need to pop them at least once to get them added to my items checklist. So it's been slow going on basic Normal runs to Mom's Heart when I'm used to flying through deeper runs on Hard without breaking a sweat.

I think I've racked over 10 hours so far. I really love the portability of this game. I can just pick up my Switch and start playing! Haven't found any problems with this game as of yet.

Why the hell does this game even have slowdown or framerate problems? Nothing I've seen of this game shows it's doing anything crazy graphically. Is it the engine they're using?

Certain item combinations cause absurd effects to appear on the screen procedurally. It's likely logic/engine based more than anything.

It might be possible to optimize it further but I wouldn't count on it. The fact that it's not constantly doing hard lockups makes it superior to most Isaac ports. I managed to play the Vita version just fine with all its issues, and this is vastly superior right out the gate.

Damn it. Beat greed mode with 78 coins and completely forgot to donate to the machine.
I hate the greed unlocks. :|
