What *realistic* wishes do you have for Bioware fixing Mass Effect Andromeda?

Personally I would like the following fixes:

  • A different and better eye texture on human characters. Usually human characters in Bioware games all use the same eye texture, so this shouldn't be that difficult to fix, (unless there's something fundamentally wrong with their implementation of FB3)
  • The dripping rain on the head while wearing a helmet so it looks like Ryder is sweating profusely.
  • An option to skip the galaxy map animation. Just make it an option to skip the animation sequence and simply only load whatever assets need to be loaded.
  • Less animation bugs in the cutscenes and idle NPCs - PeeBee's reverse gun, Avenger glued to a NPC's hand, eyeballs spinning like cue balls, Cora's walking animation
  • Polishing up NPCs that do weird shit for no reason - the drunk lady NPC, the protest in the Nexus, the handshake
  • Expand and advance the limited character creator (already planned, as far as I'm aware of)
  • Diversify the NPCs a lot more, since everyone seems to basically look alike with the same few assets used to create individual NPCs. But maybe that is beyond the scope of being a realistic wish
Unrealistical wishes would be stuff like facial animations and making a better lighting solution (the visual presentation can be very flat when not using directional lighting). These are impossible to fix now and would require too large of an investment, workpower, and time.

I wonder how much of this they'll actually do. I can see them squashing as many bugs as possible but that wont necessarily fix a lot this games animation problems (or many of the other problems it has). Also, how they didn't include an option to skip galaxy map animations is baffling.

Honestly? Don't use same team on the franchise, get talented designers, engineers and animators from all over EA. Do not let any of the same (shitty) team anywhere near the franchise, we shouldn't have to point out flaws this rudimentary. Unless it's for Multiplayer. There's no hope as long as they're involved so heavily.

A proper "Enhanced Edition" like CDPR used to do. Don't release shitty overpriced DLC before fixing it.

They don't allow you to equip new weapons and armors on your partners and it can't be fixed easily, so that alone is going to annoy me when I play.

Fix the eyes, fix the loading issues, fix the sloppy cutscene triggers and T poses, work out why some scenes have no emotional face animations at all and fix those... honestly there is a lot I doubt they can do much about now.

They can't realistically fix the storyline and dialog. What we can only hope for is that this doesn't kill the franchise and the next game is actually good. :(

Game is too big for them to change anything meaningful, I feel like. But, all the things in the OP are agreeable to me.

Also, this:

Realistically I don't expect them to do anything else other than "no comment" anyone who asks and crap out dlc packs while quietly moving on to the next project with their tail between their legs.

Then in 3-4 years they'll have a pr campaign as part of the hype cycle talking about how much they learned from the project and how improved the new game will be, similar to what we already saw with this game in relation to me3. Same shit, different day.

I don't know , they should have fixed it before launch, it will be worth for people who didn't get the game yet yes, but for me i don't think i will comeback to it just because they fixed animations or something else, the same way i didn't play ME3 again to see an extended cut for it, unless they do this really fast which i doubt probably by the time they finish to fix the problems i will be playing another game or just playing the MP (which is really good) ...

If I barely move the analog stick forward or backwards to move at the slowest possible amount the walking animation breaks and Ryder looks like he's just gliding across the ground super slowly.

Ugh. Hopefully something like that will get fixed.

Aside some animations issues aside, which clearly could've been fixed if the game was pushed by a couple months, I think the only big thing I would love to see if some sort of way to manage or companions more effectively on battle.

When they said the wheel was going to be removed I thought something else was gonna replace it, and it's just gone for no reason, and the AI is not good enough to set up combos on its own basically most of the time.

100% expecting this. If they were going to do the game justice or had the skills/talent/management/resources to do so in the first place, they would have done it prior to launch.

This.

I'm a huge fan but I have no interest in the game until they patch the character creator, it's a step back from the previous trilogy, 5 years and this is all we've got, a shitty, limited CC. I expected a more complex tool, it destroyed my hype.

I don't know if eye textures are the problem. They all look bug eyed like they need to apply a small eyelid close morph to everything.

I think the game is fine as far as gameplay goes but I will say I think all the human faces are unattractive. I don't know what's up with that. Even the Asari who were very appealing in the old games don't look great.

Those galaxy map animations need to go.
What a waste of time.

Make it an option in the menu, then everyone wins (I love them, personally): find them relaxing.

I would love to see:

* Spoilers getting fixed in the Tempest (crew conversations before that crewmate is even there...)
* Animation fixes to an extent: just a tidy up and bug fix (they don't bother me, remind me of Gothic games lol)
* Netcode get patched for MP, localisation fixed.
* Crash fixes for HDR screenshots.
* Change the melee animation so it locks on with a soft lock.
* Eye textures get prettied up, and Addison gets a full makeover (like Vimi Vivalldi in TW3)

...more to come, can't think of any others right now.

I wish they would overhaul the UI but hoping that they'll do that seems like a lost cause.

Yeah, let's throw out some things beyond animation/textures/lightning and NPCs that have been mentioned. Although those and related glitches need a lot of work.
- UI is horrendous and really needs some work in PC. It is hugely disorganized and non-intuitive.
- Kill the stupid scanning animation. It's the most insane thing ever.
- Increase handheld scanning range to make finding things less annoying
- Let us enter the Tempest without lifting off from the planet ala Normandy at the Citadel.
- Equipping weapons should be allowed at any time not just at the armory stations

-Treat Andromeda like God of War Ascension and Batman Arkham Origins.
-Put A-team on Mass Effect 4
-Bring Shepard back
-Use the Indoctrination Theory (ME3 ending never happened, everyone will be happy af and forget about Andromeda)
-ME4 starts with Shep waking up in the rumble and you fight the Reapers
-GOAT beginning, even overtaking ME2 beginning
-Continue from there

Let me land at any of the Forward Operating Bases I've placed so I don't have two loading screens (landing, then fast-traveling).

Let me fast travel to points on Kadara while inside the port city.

Let me choose which area of the Nexus I'd like to disembark at.

Let me favorite / pin quests to keep them at the top of the list or outside of the folders.

Larger font size in menus (especially the Codex and Crafting menus).

Pin crafting recipes as a reminder of materials needed.

Make research a bit cheaper. It's pretty punitive -- research data doesn't seem nearly plentiful enough when you have to research every subsequent tier of the weapon you want and
there are even five hidden tiers, VI - X, unlocked for each item later.

No. Leave Shepard alone. It's over. I have zero faith that anything they made now would be better than ME3.

Maybe.

But only if they do the EXACT OPPOSITE of everything on this list.

So what a month from now we could maybe get the first signs that a patch is incoming? All guess work I know...

It's beyond what they could do for me sadly. Writing is my biggest problem and the amount of animation work they would have to do would be asking too much.

I'm only three hours in but my main complain so far is how bad some dialogues are...
Fixing the script it's impossible so here's my idea:

Add the option to answer "..." in every conversation, every time I have to choose I don't know what to do because how stupid or cringy every option is.

I'm not sure how realistic it is, but I think facial animation should be a top priority for them. You can have better looking created characters, but what good are they if the facial animations are still dead and/or awkward. I would work on the lighting, facial animations, and redo the eyes on the humans. I think that would go a long way in improving the presentation.

I like the galaxy map animations. The only thing I would change about them is the zoom out after you fly to your destination. It should just take you to the scanning view immediately when you fly to it.

This would be ideal, but it's not happening

No, flying to individual planet inside each system is not ok. It should let you scan/land without traveling to each damn planet inside a stellar system.

Press button to cover - In the first mission, finding the soft-cover horrible

Swap touchpad and Options button functions - Radial menu should be on touchpad, always. Maybe hold touchpad for map.

Auto-holster weapon when outside of combat

I totally get why people hate them. Make it a setting. Let me keep them. Let you remove them.

Yes the problem with game that bends over backwards to pander to nostalgia at the expense of doing new stuff is it wasn't nostalgic enough.

Get lost.

I'm waiting for Telltale to make the Citadel PI game.

Then we can really complain about facial animations.

I've never thought much about it but I'd play the crap outta that! That's pretty much what my Shepard spent all his time doing, or aimlessly hoping for more to do on the citadel.

These. As much as i hated Mass Effect 3's endings, its better to just let Shep go and start fresh. The franchise's best option is to have a clean break like they did for Andromeda so they can have wider creative freedom.

Realistic wishes?

Fixed character creator.
Ability for players to use the character creator to fix any human NPC in the game including party members
UI Tweak - there has to be a better way
Ability to mix and match Audio from multiple language versions to different characters (Wont happen but doesnt seem that hard to impliment)

General Bug Fixes. All points required to load missions should load ect

If there is any life left in the Mass Effect name after Andromeda this would certainly kill it, LOL. That part of the universe is dead. It is over and is never coming back, they made sure of it.

As for "realistic expectations", I don't know that I personally have any. I hope they make it better for the people who bought it.

As for what I expect to happen next? A bunch of bug fixing patches and small content additions, but not to the extent the game needs. A lot of PR speak about listening to feedback and learning from it, yadayada. A couple of pieces of SP DLC (on top of the MP DLC), that is probably much narrower in focus than they first wanted, and the inevitable wait for a sequel. If that happens, they will straight up cut chunks of this game in a bid to put more emphasis on multiplayer and polishing the more visible problems (animations, performance, menus, presentation in general) while probably learning very little of other underlying issues, like how they missed their chance for a fresh start in a brand new galaxy that is not just retreading all these familiar elements.

Lots of hyberbole in this thread. A lot of the small stuff mentioned can be easily fixed and the game isn't bad at all. Yeah it's far from the original trilogy and not at all a GoTY contender, but it's an enjoyable game nonetheless.

I don't agree with people saying it's unfixable and that they wont fix it.

My personal wish to add is the ability to quicksave all the time.

Bolded - this issue isn't getting enough attention because of the uproar about facial animation. Not being able to save is affecting the game more than some crappy animations. BioWare needs to remove the restriction on when you can save. Nothing more annoying than losing 15 minutes of progress because the last baddie in a wave got you.

For a game that's about exploration, having to re-explore a section of a vault because the game restricted your ability to save and sent you back 15 minutes just sucks. Also, if you loot something cool and die before receiving another random autosave - it's gone, and the box will pull different items from the loot table when you get back to it. Hope you didn't like what you looted!
