So how bad is the Switch stock situation?

I went to a gamestop way out in washington county. For those not from PA this is pretty far from any major city. Dude said there was a line when they opened. Demand must be insane if stores like this are getting lines.

The reason scalpers are able to make a buck is because of actual demand for the hardwareby the general public. This never happened with the Wii U, and only happened with the PS3/PS4/XBONE/360 just before launch. The price settled right after release of those.

If there was no demand, scalpers would have a hard time making money as the market will correct itself right away.

Was there more supply available in the time after launch for those other consoles? I have a hard time believing the PS4 price would have stabilized immediately after launch if only five consoles per Gamestop were available in the the three-week period afterwards.

There were tons of consoles units for the Switch available at launch, too. Stores got as many as 40 to 50 units per store for the bigger retailers.

My post doesn't state anywhere that there isn't actual demand. Obviously there is. What I'm saying is I'd like to see the state of the market when resellers aren't buying up stock wherever they can, inflating prices and/ or returning stock( not much chance of that right now with enough diehards willling to pay inflated prices). Nintendo already changed their projection from 2 milion to 2.5 by end of March. That's not going to crash the reseller market by any means, but it could help to drive prices down if only slightly.

If Nintendo had flooded the market with 4- 5 million consoles and everyone who wants one can easily grab one, those sales would be more telling because scalpers are removed from the equation in that scenario. You're only selling at that point to those who want one, not a swarm of those wanting to profit. Right now, the frenzy of a launch period doesn't tell me much in terms of long term sustained demand. You've already got people saying its going to outsell the Wii. Really? 2 weeks of sales is enough to reasonably conclude that?!

What's going on now isn't indicative of what the market will be like 3/6/12 months down the road, is the TL;DR version of what I'm trying to say.

Said options but didn't let me add to cart. Now it's gone of course.

Wait, they're still making that BotW special edition?
I think it's the 1rst time I see Nintendo making a regular special edition instead of "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand it's gone" edition.

Was just now able to order one in store at my local Gamestop. Saw the tweet from earlier about new stock on the 22nd (today) and called them up. They said they had the $460 Zelda/Shovel Knight bundle available for shipping by the 31st. I wasn't able to find it on the website, even with the SKU he gave me, so he invited me to just come do it in the store. Ordered it and he said the latest it'll ship will be the 31st, but there's a chance it'll ship sooner. Looking forward to it, because I've stopped playing Zelda entirely, both because other games had my intention and because every time I played it on Wii U, I just pined to be playing it on Switch.

Was able to grab one for me and my relative at Best Buy yesterday. The employees didn't even know they had them cuz it literally just entered their stores from shipment lol

Strange, I went to check my Walmart order from last week that was supposed to arrive on Friday but never shipped and now it's says Shipped! I remain skeptical...

Just got another one from Best Buy. My husband told me when I got mine at launch "where's mine?" And so I went there to get it. Every Best Buy is getting 5 and they do not have to be held to be ticketed.

I had a $200 gift card from when I bought a phone and $85 in reward ceetificates so I only paid like $33 out of pocket.

Is there a way to check best buy stock?

What? Washington PA is like 25 minutes from Pittsburgh and Wheeling. Both of which are good size as well. I can completely understand lines there.

I don't think anyone is making anything up? I haven't really seen anyone try to state definitively that the Neons are OOP, but fact is this week's restock is like 99% Greys.

Do you know how to set up prime now alerts?

Yup. I had alerts up and running with chrome and auto refresh plus yet alerts never alerted me of switches available. I just saw them twice while casually opening the app on my iPhone. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm getting my Switch from bestbuy.com delivered tomorrow evening, I'd be pretty disappointed with Amazon prime by now.

Nintendo sure love shipping batches in chunks of 20 thousand worldwide. It's gonna take forever before you can walk into any random store and buy one, isn't it?

They recently announced doubling their production efforts. However, Switches aren't just magically made, so it'll be a while before we start seeing this in effect. Maybe May at the latest.

Fine, friend who runs reviews for a moderately popular site said, via "Emails and press releases," that Amazon will be getting them back in stock tomorrow. Not tryna be Wario64 here (which is why I assumed not sharing would increase my chances; I'm pretty sure NeoGAF isn't changing that too much either way). I trust the dude enough as a buddy that he came to me as someone who wants a Switch asap with this.

Good luck and g'night!

You fool.

Got mine today! GameStop in rural North Florida got 5 units, sold them in about 15 minutes. Luckily, I has the guy hold mine until I could get there at lunch, now finally get to play that Zelda Master edition I've had since launch🎉😀🎉

So the alerts need to be done on a desktop or is there a way to set them up on mobile? I never used prime now before, but I figure it's another avenue to try at least.

Kohl's deal just popped for me on zoolert, which is the deal I really want. I already have it in my cart and ready to purchase just in case it pops. Hit purchase and had to sign in. Told me that it wasn't available. Getting tired of these false positives.

I have an opportunity to grab a Gray Switch + Zelda for $430 from a Facebook seller, I think I'm gonna bite.

Personally I'd advise against it. That's way too much, unless it's the spacial edition.
If it's used that's an even more ridiculous price.

Depending on your state, you're gonna pay about $400 with taxes anyway for a system and Zelda. $30 markup isn't much for the peace of mind, that's basically paying someone to do the legwork. My bigger concern would be warranty, does it come with the original receipt in case you had to claim manufacturer warranty( say you wind up with a faulty Joycon or worse, a dud system)?

Keep in mind that this was not announced by Nintendo themselves. Other sources apparently got this information from Nintendo, but it's not confirmed yet.

NY, Long Island to be specific. Can't find it in stores anywhere. I'll ask him if it comes with the receipt. Yeah I figured the Switch would be about $325 after tax plus $65 or so for Zelda. So I'm paying an extra $40.

Edit: He says it comes with the receipt, he got it from Target

It's new, unopened (he claims) I don't think Zelda is the special edition, but also new.

No it wasn't in the town of Washington, this was out in fracking country lol.

Edit: Now that I think about it, Cal U is nearby, probably all the college students snagging them haha.

So I ended up picking it up. It all looks good from the exterior, though I'm nervous to open it up and a bunch of months fly out.

And I was right, he spent $390 so I paid an extra $40 which isn't terrible right?

Since it's new I would say go for it( especially with the receipt). Though I wonder from the seller's side, what exactly is the point of going through the trouble of getting a Switch to sell it for $30-$40 profit? Unless he's got a bunch of them and he's hoping to make a few hundred from the accumulated sales.

When I lived in Morgantown I would have driven up to Washington or Cannonsburg or anywhere around if I needed to for something like this. So you might need to consider all the WVU students, Fairmont State, Wheeling Jesuit, Cal, etc students as well. Maybe even Pitt and Duquesne. That is a rough area in my mind.

iStockNow told me a nearby Walmart had some Switches in so I went to go check it out. BrickSeek told me the same thing a couple weeks ago but I found nothing so I wasn't really expecting anything this time either but...

I guess it paid off, they got some in last night. Finally, time to Zelda.

It checks out, everything looks good. Zelda's still in the plastic too. He said it was a gift but he didn't want it.

Does anyone know if Gamestop will allow you to trade in your older consoles toward the purchase of a Switch if they don't have any in stock. Would they put you on a waitlist and apply the trade in credit toward the Switch when the receive more in stock. I really want to take advantage of the extra trade in credit deal they have going on. I want to trade in my OG Xbox One, New 3DS, OG 3DS, and Vita towards the Switch. I figure this is a good way to perform some housekeeping, eliminate some clutter, and get a new console in the process. I would also trade in my Wii U, but I need to keep that until I'm done with Zelda.
