Nintendo Switch 3.0 update Wish list

So far I'm struggling to come up with anything that I want the system software to do that needs to be solved *immediately*. By the time more games come out there need to be better features to manage files and saves, but that's really it. I honestly like how clean and simple the system UI is.

-Bluetooth features for wireless headphones
-Video record with left joy-con capture button (hold button for 3 seconds to record maybe?)
- ELIMINATE FRIEND CODES. DIE ************ER DIE.
-A messaging system. I would like to send a message sometime to someone on my friend's list.
- Add A top ten section for the eshop.

The only thing I would like right away is killing friend codes - mario kart is coming out soon. I don't want to send exchange numbers to friend people.

that's it for my most wanted in 3.0...

Yeah, pretty much. Xbox and PS4 are cluttered with too much crap and I just want to play games. I know a lot of people are looking for achievements and other stuff like that but I don't care at all. I want a simple interface that lists my games and launches them when I click on them. Done.

Nintendo had years to work on that... and yet, they've done the same shit again... It seems they never learn from past mistakes...

I think them going with a minimalist OS really caused them to lose a lot of personality. I'd rather have the personality, honestly. Even if it's just subtle things.

But there are subtle things. Every button below the games has its own particular noise and the handheld lockscreen honks a horn if you use ZR to wake it up. I really like this minimalist approach however because it makes the system VERY distinctive from all of Nintendo's other systems.

To be honest what I would like in an update that isn't already confirmed would be wireless save data transfer between PC and the System, like the 3ds.

- Steam-type of web browser
- Ability to chat/send messages to friends
- Virtual Console (and can automatically download past WiiU/3DS VC games free of charge)
- Gamecube Virtual Console
- Achievements that sync with my nintendo rewards
- Add friends via nintendo account

Whatever we get, I hope it doesn't involve features that would be memory-heavy, such as a web browser. Because I don't want to make the system harder for developers to support - the 3GB they have access to now is limiting enough, when they are used-to 5GB on Xbox One and I think 6GB on PS4.

- Trophies with global rarity
- Save my fucking credit card info
- Cloud saves
- Actual interaction with people on friend's list
- Add friend by username

Seriously. Most pointless friends list ever since I have no idea who they are and I can't even send them a message

You don't want to send/receive messages from friends? Have party chat option? Basically the most basic functions.

I guess that would be nice when there are games that take advantage of the friends list in any way.

Mario Kart 8 is coming up soon. Splatoon test fire weekend starts tomorrow. Hopefully they add some functionality by the time Mario Kart is out.

I do get what you mean but right now it's way too bare bones.

Honestly, I don't care about that at all. I have no one on my friend's list and barely anyone on my friend's list on other consoles. If I want to chat with them, I call them, talk to them on Facebook, or send them a message on my phone. I tried doing this on my Xbox 360, but it was so slow and clunky, I opted to just contact my friends normally. It's not necessary for the system to work and do it's job...which is to play games.

Personally I feel the same way, I don't even really add friends on gaming platforms and I don't have a need for this at all. But I also understand it's a pretty basic functions that consoles have had for years and some people need or want it for various reasons.

You act like it's an either/or situation. The PS4 and Vita play games fine and have a shit load of functionality on the OS.

so those are essential features for a console, those are features that need to be added asap especially with multiplayer games coming soon

On top of what other people have said, I would LOVE some sort of messaging/screenshot sharing system on the Switch. It'd be so fun to send messages to friends when they're online a la pictochat or miiverse or swapnote or something.

I guess I just don't see this is a need. I play tons of multiplayer games without the need for these features. If you have friends that you play with and they're actual friends, then you have other (and better) ways to contact them when you're ready for a game. I understand the need for lobbies, though, but that's at the game level...not the OS.

The absolute priority is cloud saves (or allow them to be transfered), then they can do a real shop, and VC. A web navigator and netflix app would be amazing too.

Party chat literally is the easiest and fastest way to link with friends for games. Absolutely no need for anything else. But if you do, guess what? You have options.

The thing is these features are a big need.Game Lobbies are part of it but so is messaging and party chat. Messaging friends outside of the console is not an answer and it's a very poor solution.

PS4 and Xbone have a ton of meta options to keep users engaged, using the system, using the digital store and guess what... they also play video games.

Xbone's interface is awful. PS4's is fine though, and Switch's UI is definitely kinda barebones right now in terms of functionality.

I just want to be able to message friends

How so? If they're your friends, then you have better ways to contact them. Calling them, or sending them a message on your phone is quicker, easier, and most likely gonna reach them faster than sending them a message on a game system.

"On a videogame machine that was built to play videogames."

Why yes, thank you very much.

"On a machine in 2017 that doesn't have the functionality of it's predecessors."

What are you trying to defend here?

How? They're name is right there for you to send a message?

Friends list -> select username -> send invite to game

That's faster than calling or texting.

Probably that all that extra fluff wasn't needed and got in the way of actually playing games on a game system....

Hmmm... I never send friends random invites. I don't like it when people send me random invites, too. So I contact them first to see if they want to play, then send an invite. Using other systems is faster for this.

I want a way to login to a given user, so that the UI won't keep asking me which user to use for every goddamn action.

It's such a weird design decision.

This won't happen ... but Android Pay, Apple Pay, and Samsung Pay support. The NFC support is there and fingerprint or some other secondary authentication on phones + Switch parental controls pretty much make accidental purchases a very, very unlikely thing. If they're not going to let people save payment options, they ought to go this route as an alternative.

Its predecessors used a completely different OS and a completely different architecture. It's not like they can just "drag and drop" those features in. It doesn't work like that.

Good OP! Though I don't personally agree that the hardware is "half baked". Anyway, here's my OS wishlist:

- Themes: Not just black and white. Music could be a nice option on certain themes but I want the ability to turn it off as well
- Folders: Let me organize my games
- Content management: Just add the basic ability to move games/saves between system memory and an SD card
- Streaming apps: Gimme support for Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go etc...
- Messaging: At least let me interact with my friends list in some form with the core OS
- My Nintendo integration: Give me some kind of feedback for My Nintendo missions on the console itself. If I earn points it'd be slightly gratifying to get a pop-up.

In spite of all of the above being absent right now, I still bring my Switch everywhere that I possibly can. I don't think I've ever loved a piece of gaming hardware this much.

Being able to use one joycon attached and one detached. Only learned this wasn't possible! (In Zelda anyway but it seemed like a system wide thing when it shows that you basically need to detach both joycon).

Weird limitation and i would like to play Zelda handheld with the left one attached and right one detached for gyro aiming. Seems like some lame H&S excuse bullshit preventing you from doing so.

The Switch gets more in the 'way' of me playing a game than the PS4 due to it constantly asking which user wants to play.

This doesn't bother me in the slightest. I don't understand the complaint considering it's all of less than a second to click the button a second time after it pops up. Especially if you're the only one who plays on your system because it defaults to the last person who played.

Only if there's just one account on the system, I think.

Ah dang, you're right! I just added another user to my system and that option is gone. Definitely doesn't work the way I thought it would. Ideally, I'd want it to work as follows:

- User accounts are displayed at the top of the home page
- Selecting a user account is as simple as tapping the correct icon and hitting "yes" to make them the "active" user
- Any and all games played would then automatically start under that user until someone else is designated "active"

Oh well... I imagine they might change it in time. If I start a game as one "user" and then go to the home menu, does it ask you to select a user again when you go to resume playing? If not, I honestly don't see myself being too flustered by this if I ever do add another user account.

Doesn't it already have a multiplayer game? Still, I've played lots of multiplayer games on many systems without ever having the need for all that extra friend stuff.
Ah, I'm sorry. Online multiplayer game.

This can literally be used to ask why you're being difficult regarding a built in system messaging. It'll take less than 5 seconds since the Switch ui fast.

Eh... Considering there are other methods of adding friends now, including Social Media friends, and legacy Nintendo Network friends from Wii U and 3DS, I can deal with Friend Codes, especially since the implementation is a lot better than the Wii and DS days.
