What was your most hyped game of all time?

NieR Automata

There were definitely a few rough spots here and there, I don't think a game can get too big before the stretch marks start to show up, but it didn't just meet my expectations, it surpassed and defied them in equal order.

My GOTY, no doubt.

Such a big disappointment. Even though I enjoyed the game still, it was way off of what I was hoping and expecting. I never thought the story would be that butchered and non eventful. But fuck I look back at how excited I was for this and I get all sad.

Tie between Zelda Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild.

For TP i was 11 i was so freaking hyped for that game it was fking insane.... When i finally got that game me and my friends and my sister played it for days we were amazed etc it was a magical experience enjoying the game all together. And thanks to that game we played through most other Zelda games all together i will never forget that and that's why i have a Imp Midna and Wolf Link tattoo to cherish that memory forever and because i love Zelda games:p

For BotW i experienced that one alone but the internet hype was insane i was young when TP came so i never experienced such a game hype for a Zelda game before online, that also was quitw the experience and when last E3 happened i watched all of the treehouse streams about it live and my heart melted when i saw all those people running to play Zelda it was a amazing experience. My hype was through the roof and seeing al the hype on gaf was cool.

In the end both games lived up to the hype and i enjoyed both in different ways i will soon invite a few friends and replay Zelda BotW with them but still it was nice to see the hype online and on social media for once and in real life with childhood friends.

That's why i love gaming as a hobby it can make people so happy and that's fantastic it, even can help people with depression/mental ilnesses or to overcome a loss and even make them a better person (also worse sadly sometimes).

Damn i nearly shed a tear writing this:')

Oh actually it might be this. Me and my brothers found the copy our mum bought us for Christmas and we sneakily played it and carefully placed it back as when we could. Sure she knew.

Oh man. I got my copy via cod, think I paid like $90 as my parents wouldn't buy it for me due to my lousy grades. Once my mom found out that I bought sf2, she took it away but later found out where she was hiding it.
So, just like you did, sneakily played it until I got busted then got grounded for a week..the things I did to play sf2.

Bish loves my games!
Super Mario 64. Half Life 2. Gears of War.

Also probably Super Ghouls'n'Ghosts. I was a diehard Ghosts'n'Goblins/Ghouls'n'Ghosts fan.

Super Mario Galaxy. They completed downgraded the movement mechanics from Sunshine but besides that it lived up to the hype.

All the games I've ever been uncontrollably hyped for. Bolded is probably my most hyped ever:

SMB3 - Lived up to the hype

SMW - Lived up to the hype

Super Mario 64 - Initially didn't live up to the hype (outside of mind-blowing 3D), mind changed over time

Metal Gear Solid - Exceeded hype

Resident Evil 2 - Exceeded hype

Ocarina of Time - Blew hype expectations out of the water

Majora's Mask - Did not meet hype

Metal Gear Solid 2: Wet fart

Halo: CE - Lived up to the hype

Halo 2: 1/2 of the game (MP) lived up to the hype. The other half was disappointing

RE4 - Vastly exceeded hype

Shadow of the Colossus - Lived up to the hype

Half-Life 2: Vastly exceeded hype

Portal: Vastly exceeded hype

The Last Guardian - Wet fart

Breath of the Wild - Blew hype expectations out of the water

For me it was either OoT or LoK Soul Reaver. I watched OoTs "ye snooze ye lose" trailer more times than I can remember and the same goes for Soul Reaver's intro movie. All on my old Apple Quadra. Good times....

Both games lived up to their block puzzle hype.

I honestly have not had a longer and more sustained cycle of personal hype for a game more than Persona 5. The game isn't out yet, so I can't say for sure if it has delivered, but I have legitimately never felt so invested in a games impending release, nor does it feel like I've felt that level of excitement for so long -- never been below the same level of excitement as when the game was announced. It's one of few games that I've been excited for enough that the last few delays have actually had a negative mental health impact on me for a few days following their announcements... I've been looking forward to it with such enthusiasm and for so long that the wait has grown quite wearisome.

Outside of that, probably Metal Gear Solid 4 -- but the hype was super relient on having a roommate who was also excited. At the time of its release, it definitely delivered. Upon retrospective thought, the game has diminished in how special it feels over time, but I most certainly don't regret the excitement up to its release and then the first 48 hours or so following.

I'd have to say GTA 5. I will never forget the hype around that game when it came out in 2013. Basically everyone I knew was talking about that game, from my friends to my parents, even my teachers talked about it. It also was all over the media at the time of release. I think it's safe to say GTA 5 turned into one of the biggest gaming phenomenons of all time.

Nothing will top that hype train.

Though waiting for the original import copy of this to come in back in the day was pretty darn close:

My most hyped was during the N64 days, with Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie (shocker, I know!), and Donkey Kong 64. Since then I've been super excited for things, but not dying for them like back in the day.

Most hyped of all, definitely Ocarina of Time, though.

Mario 64. I used to goto toys r us every weekend and play it for hrs before they released it. I remember having to buy banjo to fill in the thirst. I fuckin hated banjo.
I meant crash.

Either Brawl or Smash 4. Sm4sh kinda disappointed me but damn Brawl was a stinker. I can't wait for Ace Combat 7 though, that game has to be good.

Final Fantasy 7. Pre-ordered like a year in advance, put the pre-order stub in my bank/safe, checked to make sure it was still there every night before bed...

Street Fighter IV. It brought me back to gaming after years of giving up the hobby.

I had a blast and followed the FGC for a few years but I was more in love with the competitive aspect and community then I was about the game.

Kingdom Hearts 2 & Grand Theft Auto V.

Both actually kinda delivered on the massive hype I had for them. GTA V in particular went above and beyond with it's multiplayer.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 - I was a lurker at the time but I followed the hype train surrounding that game here, on srk and through twitter like a crack head. That was easily my most searched topic at the time. I'll never forget that ride

Madden - The newest annual release up until the Vince Young Ps3 version. It completely killed the Franchise that I had going with 7+ people. I used to go to this hole in the wall video game place and get it days early. Loved those leagues, it was never the same

Mighty No 9 - Yea, I know

Fallout 3 - Was so worth the wait. I really had a ton of fun with that game and NV.

Personally? Persona 5. Generally? I think the hype around Breath of the Wild is/was quite insane. 2017 is a crazy year for gaming.

I remember wandering up with my brothers to the house of the one lad we knew who had a copy, desperately asking to borrow it for an hour like some sad strung out junkies.

Good times.

Probably Sonic 2006. Yeah, I know . . . I actually enjoyed the game back then, I was a fucking Sonic fanatic. I begged for a 360 X-Mas of that year to play it.

Final Fantasy 7 as a child for sure. Bought so many gaming magazines to get info on the game

Wrath of the Lich King. Was really into wow at the time and had a guild full of real life friends.

Diablo 3. Initial launch was disappointing once I hit endgame.

I'll go with Street Fighter 2 on the SNES. After spending countless dollars on it in the arcade and seeing the endless hype in EGM and other magazines, I was going nuts. It also felt like the SNES was the first system that could come somewhat close to the arcade experience.

When it finally hit, my parents actually let me take a day off from school for it. A fantastic port.

I agree with all of these so it sounds like I might really like the new Zelda.

Super Smash Bros Brawl and 4 comes to mind.

The other game that come to mind is Trails in the Sky : Second Chapter, i REALLY wanted to see what happened next.
Unfortunatly, even if i liked it, i still found too bad that you visit the same environement again, and since i'm one of those guy who talk to every NPC for each moment the game advance, it becomes quite exausting.

But still, i don't regret anything.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

I was one who came around on the trick by the end of it. I appreciated the perspective of working along side Snake rather than being him.
