Boogie seems like the kind of guy who would say "Wait, let's see where he's going with this" during Germany rise to power in the 1930s

Boogie has always played this centrist, i'm so enlightened and objective angle.

Kinda gets old and annoying.

I like the guy still, but man is he predicable with that nonsense.

welcome the world where you cannot have "own opinions"

More like "Welcome to the world where you can spew your racist opinion to millions of viewers if you want, as long as you accept the consequences when one of your employers decides to cut ties with you". Also known as: the world of employment, the world of adults, or the real world. Don't worry, once you get a job, all these seemingly inexplicable consequences will be easier to understand.

Equating JonTron's views on non-white genetic inferiority and advocacy for legal changes to support American white supremacy with Sarkeesian's views on media representation of gender reinforcing social ills is one of the single most idiotic things I've seen around this discussion. I'm dumbfounded anyone could even let that slip out of their lips. Bringing up Sarkeesian as an "extremist" at all shows he's still talking out of both sides of his mouth more than actually making a sincere point about what's going on.

Indeed. I think this is a good response to Boogie:

The point, in my opinion, is the following: in a perfect world, everyone should be able to talk and express their own beliefs. If those beliefs are a steamy pile of bullcrap, the majority of people (who is actually clever) would just have to ignore aforesaid opinions because it's OBVIOUS they are said by a person who is not so brilliant.
But still, we're way far from living in a perfect world and we lose days and days talking about such matters.

I feel like the bigger issue is that people are conflating racism as meaning an objectively and obviously bad person. Since Jon is otherwise a funny and affable person there is a disconnect for people. If someone less likeable had said the same things about immigrants replacing white people they wouldn't have as many people coming to their defense. Steve King is the one who originally made the statement on Twitter actually and fewer people came to his defense for just that reason.

I think the reality that people know that their actions are racist and they know that being a racist is not a good look, so they want to dissociate racist actions from "being a racist" so that they can get away without consequences.

It would take a hell of a lot to convince me that there's any innocence or actual goodwill involved in this particular situation.

Mother of god at the JonTron / Anita comparison and "all views are equally valuable no matter how extreme". Somebody should quote these to them.
The Sophisticate: "The world isn't black and white. No one does pure good or pure bad. It's all gray. Therefore, no one is better than anyone else."
The Zetet: "Knowing only gray, you conclude that all grays are the same shade. You mock the simplicity of the two-color view, yet you replace it with a one-color view..."

Who the fuck is this Boogie idiot?

He's a nice genuine guy, with good intentions, who just doesn't like conflict. Him saying he disagrees with JonTron, doesn't like what he's said, but also thinks the conflict should stop is about as close to condemning someone for being a racist that Boogie will get.

I honestly think Boogie's getting the heat too hot right now, and all it's proving is some people's point that the hate-machine will continue, one target after another.

Pacifist, coward, call him whatever you want, he's genuinely a good person and just wants people to be happy. This is the type of situation where he isn't equipped to illustrate that point, not in a way that fits the severity of what was said.

I will never stop calling out racists and condemning them.

I guess Boogie lives in an alternate reality where we don't have a fascist con man for a president, and racism is over.

Boogie has every right to stay away from conflict. He's doing the opposite right now by inserting himself into the situation. He didn't have to say anything.

I feel like if Boogie's point is that the hate machine will continue, one target after the other, he should stop trying to defend people who are actively spreading hatred. Doesn't mesh well.

Disagree hard.

There's "opinions" and then there's advocating beliefs that cause detrimental harm to other human beings and are disgusting on the most basic and humane level of understanding, and giving those ugly, repulsive beliefs any spotlight or validation groups like-minded individuals together, giving strength to numbers, and ultimately giving them enough power and influence to do real, legitimate harm to others.

And that's not some dumb, wacky hypothetical. That's history. All a dangerous cult needs is one dangerous cult leader to preach his message to the stupid, frightened, restless masses longing for direction and purpose. To find a scapegoat for their problems to give their aimless frustrations a focus to latch on to.

And that is why the "smart ones", as you might say, have to be vigilant and NOT stand for this. To shout down the ugly rhetoric and condemn the hateful actions of those who are too stupid or hateful to treat someone different than themselves as an equal. Someone who is scared that we're "diluting the gene pool" as if one person's genes are inherently inferior to their own. It's shameful, and those people who espouse such doctrine should be rightly shamed.

That's not a calm discussion. That's a hard moral line drawn that people like myself cannot abide and will never tolerate, not one inch.

So by all means, Jon and others can say whatever the hell they want, but any reprisal they receive and any backlash they're given is their own damn fault and a direct correlation to their caustic, ignorant, spiteful beliefs that rob other people of their basic human dignity and self-respect. They deserve to have those beliefs drowned out by a sea of protest and dismissal.

if he can't say something as simple as "bigotry is bad", then he shouldn't say anything. nobody would be criticizing him for staying silent. people are criticizing him because he's defending and normalizing hatred. this "he's a nice guy" bullshit doesn't mean much when he's defending vile views.

he might be a nice guy, but he's doing a very bad and harmful thing, so he deserves to be called out on it.

He doesn't want people to be happy, he wants them to shut up. He has no care whatsoever for anyone who gets hurt. In fact when people get hurt he actively tells them not to talk about it. He doesn't care at all about people being happy.

Anyway if he wanted to not get involved he should've said nothing. There's no 'hate train' when people are just responding to his own posts. He can't expect people not to respond to this stuff when his whole life is public

The validity of civil reactions to speech is as much a part of the philosophy of free speech as anything else. In its own twisted way, considering Boogie's specifically outlined his own concerns about how his audience might abandon him if he says the wrong things, he should understand the basis for another personality-based celebrity facing consequence for alienating their base. JonTron is not a professional voice actor, and he did not lose a job in any meaningful way. His public advocacy was abhorrent to the team and was a liability to the product he was originally included in for promotion and out of respect for his love for the game's precursors.

This guy is full of shit. Anita is neither extreme or crazy with her views on normalizing non sexualized portrayals of women in games. Being a fucking racist is a world apart from that. Equality isn't extreme, racism is. Just being willfully ignorant not to see that, just so he can appear to be a centrist. I can't believe this guy gets recognized by industry people. This is disgusting.

The point, in my opinion, is the following: in a perfect world, everyone should be able to talk and express their own beliefs. I'd rather lose days talking about it than begin to lose more rights as such views become more and more normalized is society.

I see your opinion and file it directly into the garbage.

Fantastic post, needs to be read and absorbed by a lot of people.

To stand by while people spoute hateful and dangerous rhetoric, especially those in the position to influence thousands and millions of people, is not A position anyone who claims to stand for equality can do.

We have to call it out every time otherwise it will get worse, especially with governments and media who stand by or encourage this type of thinking.

All people who stand in the middle do is present the most vile opinions as simply a different way of thinking or some wacky ideas which causes impressionable people to think that it's a viable opinion to have.

If you lose subscribers good! I'm sure being an openly inclusive person who stands by peoples rights and acknowledges them as human beings will benefit in itself and you won't help create extra followers for these shitty people who keep cropping up.

You can't ethically stay in the middle when it comes to discrimination and bigotry.

Wants people to be happy? Including the racists? Who gives a feck about the racists?! I mean, am I happy now that he's behaving like a centralist? The feck?

Sorry, but I'm not mixing myself up with those racists. As I said before, he could have kept his mouth shut and not be involved. Now he is involved, I don't see a way out for him. Either side with the racists (and JonTron) or the non-racists. Simple.

He's not a good guy in my books. He is still (in a way) standing up with JonTron. Uh ah, you'll think I'll accept that.

Then :clap_emoji: why :clap_emoji: make :clap_emoji: a :clap_emoji: video :clap_emoji: about :clap_emoji: it :clap_emoji:

He made the video to make sure his base knows he's a nice guy and in the middle. Reaffirm his stance, then people call his bullshit out, play victim and his base will feel protective of him or something and want to continue watching him.

Can someone link me to where Jon said whatever about gene pools?

https://clips.twitch.tv/IncredulousSpikyCockroachDendiFace

Destiny: What if whites become the minority but most brown people assimilated to the culture but most brown people assimilated to the culture. Would that be OK?
Jafari: Yeah, but if they assimilated, they would enter the gene pool eventually and just... you know...

It makes me a little sick to get the link but that's the exact quote and reference

This. He made it apparent during his time on gaf.

It's actually pretty simple and I'm not sure why it's so hard for some people to grasp.
If you stand in the middle of something like this whole issue you either:

A - don't understand why these ideas are disgusting and factually wrong.
B - do understand and either agree with it or are willing to let it slide because it doesn't effect you.

It's that simple, it isn't because you are smarter or more logical as many centrists tend to portray themselves.

Then :clap_emoji: why :clap_emoji: make :clap_emoji: a :clap_emoji: video :clap_emoji: about :clap_emoji: it :clap_emoji:
Because that's his entire damn YouTube channel, riding off other popular people's coattails. He makes videos about this drama and then says literally nothing of value because he has nothing of value to add. He got popular off being a fat yelling guy and now wants to be praised as a pillar of the gaming community while not doing anything worthwhile. That's why I unsubbed from him like 2 years ago. He's a modern day reply girl.
