Splatoon 2 Testfire Thread: This is a port...able game now

Grumpy face! :) I had a bit of a rough go of it before I found out you could disable the motion controls.

I quickly got back into the swing of things once I changed it back to how I was used to.

Game is super fun. I love the splat dualies, the new supers are great, and I love the new music tracks.

The only thing I'm not big on is that I find the first game's method of jumping to teammates much preferable. Having to press X to bring up the map, then hold the direction on the pad of the squadmate you want to jump to and then press A isn't nearly as seamless. Maybe I'll get used to it, though.

This will be a day one purchase, without question.

I got my Switch just in the nick of time today. This was my first experience with Splatoon since I did not have a Wii U, and what a blast! Day one purchase...whenever that is.

As I'm learning the game, is the preferred method of play? How are those most experienced configuring their controls? Thanks.
Gyro was the preferred method for the first game. It seems to be the same here as well. With the test fire, because of the limited time, its probably best to play with whatever you're most comfortable and then if you get the game play with the gyro and adjust your sensitivity until you find what you like. And if you end up not liking it that's fine too.

The standard advice for the first game was to play through the SP with gyro and if it hadn't clicked by then it probably wasn't meant to be.

So how's this look compared to Wii U?

To me, the testfire build has felt like pretty standard sequel-style improvements for visuals. Core looks same-ish but the polish, small details and aesthetic def took a nice leap. I feel like the ink looks quite a bit nicer, too, but this is off of memory of like... 3 hours of play of the original so I could be wrong.

I hope the 720p in docked isn't a final thing, though. I assume not as it's still WiP and that doesn't make any sense.

also seriously the fucking hd rumble. we gotta talk about that shit. once I started noticing it I stared noticing it everywhere. like, I'm not even going to remember all the unique implementations if I start listing them off but it's great. it's not super intense and if you don't pay attention it could just fade into the background. it could just feel like the game being the game in terms of what you notice because it works so well in conjunction with everything else.

you can feel the curling bomb as it's rolling if it's near you and you'll feel when it stops and explodes
you can feel the ink jet rev up when it's initiated and then fly off the ground
you can feel when one of your teammates is shooting ink at you
you can feel when you're in enemy ink
you can feel when the enemy is shooting at you
you can feel when you initiate the tenta missiles, when, where, and how many launch, while they're still in the air, and where they land. on top of that you can feel how far they are away from you depending on the intensity of the rumble so you know whether or not the enemy you targeted is close or far because if they're close it might be worth it to push because you just locked on and fired missiles at them. in fact, that sense of distance applies to almost every implementation of rumble in the game. when the ink jet revs up if you're right next to it you'll feel it way more than if you're not close. reminds me of a lawn mower starting.
you can feel getting targeted by the tenta missiles. you can feel them in the air right before they land and you can feel when they land around you or if you get hit. again, differing intensity for how close or far away they land from you.
and then there's little touches like the rumble when your respawn animation starts and finishes or the rumble when you moving your cursor on the map looking for someone to super jump to

and that's all I can remember

I used the pro controller mostly, really felt it with the split joy con, and then when I went back to the pro controller I felt it more as well. this is exactly what I envisioned with this game and it's getting me pretty fucking pumped oddly enough. I've posted about this very thing a few times. it's hd rumble implemented in a way where it's not overbearing, it's not gimmicky, it just enhances the overall game feel, and above all is just another avenue for game designers to tie sensory feedback into their games. really impressed right now after that hour.

All I can say is, wow :)

Anyone else think the dual splats build is a little too strong currently?

It has a fast rate of fire, a crazy good grenade that you can cook and travels far giving you an ink stream to cover and use to quickly advance, a dodge technique you can use twice in quick succession, and an amazing special (and once the special is done, an aerial view of the map so you can easily see the action and where to go next).

Heads up reminder for fellow UK buddies, clocks went forward last night. So the testfire time may be different? If its still 2 hours away like the countdown in OP says then its 12pm rather than 11am

That special is going to be really terrible when there are more actual rollers / snipers / splattershots around that can really trivially shoot you out of the sky. Right now it really effectively puts distance between you and the ground making it hard for you to die in matches of 3 dualies vs 4 dualies

Nah. The range is pitiful and the dodgeroll has massive recovery frames. The bumper bomb also takes a shittonne of ink and is easy to avoid.

Also the inkzooker just makes you a target imho. I've got to figure out the splash radius on the 'nades, I actually rarely get kills from an inkzooker short of surprise flanks.

Fuck me, I missed this whole thing. Had it downloaded and everything, but other stuff got in-between.

EDIT: The last one is soon over, right? Or is it about to start? I'm in Europe and confused. It's 12:50 now, so...?

Man, tried tethering to my mobile network at work and got an error connection 20 seconds into the match.

On one hand, I'm sad I can't play the final testfire but on the other hand, I snuck away to play this and I'm really not in the position to be doing so, so this is maybe a blessing in disguise.

Just played a couple of rounds, UK. Got straight in, decent little game but I don't think it's for me. Good to test it out though.

Game looks lovely.

Skiesofwonder

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.
So I've play around with pro, joy-cons split, and the Joy-cons in grip.

Strangely, I might like the the Joy-cons in grip the best. It just molds into the hands so well.

far out... 20 minutes in and can't get a game. thought it'd be easy as tonight (ie. everyone with their minds up and opting out of it/ tomorrow being work day here in Aust.) buuuuttttt nooooo.

-.-

Okay, I've had my fair share of Splatoon 2 this Weekend.

Just tired of the 2 maps now and being restricted to the 4 Weapons (even though I only used Splattershot mostly and the Dualies a couple times).

Ended on this High though:

Playing now with my 8-year-old daughter (bout 8:30 PM in Yokohama, Japan). Final version of this is gonna be (better be) tits.

Edit: Games like this are why Nintendo platforms are must-purchases.

Is there something I'm missing? How do people just know and wait for me to jump to my initial location after using the inkjet?

Jumping to your teammates is risky because your landing spot provides an icon for the other team to see.

It is not advised to jump to teammate in the middle of a splat-battle.
