Splatoon 2 Testfire Thread: This is a port...able game now

Liked what I saw so much last night I got up early to play again!! I feel bad for sleeping on the first game, this is so much fun. Count me in when the full game drops!

When people talk about supers do they just mean the bombs you throw with R? I love the game but I had no clue what I was doing most of the time.

well, the inkjet is something to be used to that I cannot unless I get used to motion aiming, which I am not a fan unless both Sticks axis and motion works, the no vertical in sticks while enabling motion is a deal breaker to me still since Splatoon on Wii U, other than that, I like the new styles for the inklings a lot gonna be grinding when the game comes out to have the most stylish possible

connections where more stable than on WiiU, dropped players were only at the beginning of the match and not in between for me, no lag for ink in any game at all, seems more stable this time

I had so much fun mixing my own songs in the lobby. The two voices on the d-pad and the face buttons combined with the spinning you can do with the left stick is an amazing music minigame. It reminded me a bit of the fun I had with electroplankton on DS.

I made 5/6. Won some inkjet duels this time and finally got a bit of traction with aiming after dual-dodging.

Those are "sub" weapons. Specials are activated by pressing the right stick when you've filled the meter.

Alarm went off, rolled over, grabbed the Switch, split the joycon, propped it up in my chest and was in a game in 2 minutes. Had my best hour yet. Splatoon + Switch is legitimate magic.

Also, battery went from 98% to 68% in that hour. Can't complain too much about ~3 hours of online gameplay on a single charge. Plus, I've got this 21,000 mah backup anyways. Splatoon everywhere everyday.

RELEASE DATE NOW. REWARD US FOR OUR SQUID RESEARCH.

Thanks and damn. I knew I was missing something when I saw people jetpacking around.

Got into a few of the test fire blocks....no lag or anything, the online seems pretty smooth. Wow, it looks rough on a 4K set though. How high does the dynamic res go?

It looks superb in handheld mode, at the same time I hope they will increase resolution on TV by this summer.

In terms of controls, I love aiming with the right joy-con. So many control options for this game, I've never seen that.

Damn, sad it's over and I have to wait until the summer to play again. The beta totally sold me this game, as towards the end I finally got the hang of it:

played this whole hour in handheld mode in bed. dat Switch experience. went from 100% to 68% on about half brightness. got an extra match in at the end too.

oh and that glorious hd rumble continues to be glorious. feels a lot better with joy con. Splatoon 2 got me wanting a set of joy con pros if they ever decide to make them.

Well that was a sour note to end on. I played like garbage since I only slept for two hours before getting up for it (going back to bed now, I ain't got nothing to do on a lazy Sunday morning/noon), which was made worse by the fact I was in the lobby for 30 of the 65~ minutes I was in. The last lobby searched for seven minutes straight as people kept getting in and leaving, and it resulted in being kicked from the servers.

Maybe I'll be less grumpy about it when I wake back up.

Still super excited for the full game. Bring on July.

I figured out that if you hit the home button and close the software you can back out of a lobby and then hop right back in to try again. doubt that'll be as convenient in the main game though.

I just felt good as a charger for the first time. 6-2 with 2nd most points. We still lost though lol.

Bring this ASAP, Nintendo.

Wrecked house for my last hour, team literally went undefeated and I was constantly hitting 2k at the results screen.

The wait for the release is gonna be rough as all hell.

Yep, after a few rounds of the test fire, I've come to the same conclusion as after a few hours with Splatoon 1: I hate how this game controls, and have no interest in the franchise. More money for good games!

I thought it looked okay on my 55" 4k set. Not great but alright. I bet it's 900p.

Didn't have the best last hour, even ended with a loss.
Only ever saw 1 Japanese name.
I had a lot of fun, too. I onky ever saw two western names written in katakana.

What did you hate about it? Did you fiddle with sensitivity and turning motion control off?

Oh I didn't realize that was the last hour, I thought there was another hour later on...

Crap. Well at least I ended it on a high note and won. I wanted to get more portable in.

That moment when my Switch went from 100% to 78% within the hour at half brightness (since it's dark and didn't want to burn my eyes out)

I think I've read some tests saying brightness isn't even that big of a deal battery wise on this thing. Something like a 20% consumption difference between full and minimum brightness.

I murdered everyone in my first session, and just lost over 50% of my games in this last one. 100% Japanese players except for me in every single game (I'm in Australia).

The new supers all have serious downsides. I think I like splashdown the best because at least it has a little bit of 'backed into the corner' recovery and is also a great ending to a round to push your turf over the top.

Yeah, I tried both but still no joy. You are at a big disadvantage if you turn motion control off, and no sensitivity setting felt good. Glad so many people adore this series, but I've not got th patience to be one of them. Back to Overwatch for a competitive fix.

Did any of you have any problems at all connectionwise? It played perfectly once my wifi worked

no problems with wifi and no problems with my 9€ ugreen usb 2.0 lan adapter.

I turned motion control off and won most of the games...often being first or second placed in my team.

Did the full testfire from 7am-8am my time. Went a lot smoother. Only 2 disconnects in around 15-20 matches. Gonna feel like a tease waiting for this game. Lemme pay $60 Nintendo and keep the testfire active til the game is ready, lol!

I have absolutely NO idea how I made such a good score...
How is that calculated ?

As someone who didn't play Splatoon 1 and never play any shooter game (or close enough) I was surprised.

Not that I got more than 1800 pts anytime after again though : P .

Ah, I tried the motion controls again but it was WAYYYYY too high in sensitivity and didn't have the patience to try getting used to it or lowering the sensitivity. I'll probably play around with it when the full game comes out. I was doing decent/good because I was groggy, but could definitely notice that it was difficult to pull a 180 on someone after rolling with -2 sensitivity. I won't change the sensitivity because I prefer it for accuracy but I figured motion could've helped me there

I dropped sensitivity to -3 for me (with the Pro controller). Was like night and day. I went from being a mess to being consistently first/second in my team.

So now that the Testfires ended, is the community still playing Splatoon 1? I own it and liked it but I never had time for it when it came out and I thought it wasn't a good idea to start into the community late. GAF told me otherwise and I should have listened but yeah Splatoon 2 made me want to delve into Splatoon for real now.

You colored 1102 pts. You get a 1000 bonus after winning. Compared to your peers you seemed to focus more on actually painting territory than confronting the enemy team.

It just means you're getting good.
