So how bad is the Switch stock situation?

Don't know if it's just me, but one of my Best Buys got Neon Joy-Cons in today... Was able to do a store pickup. Might be worth looking for a set on the website!

This week should be a good opportunity for people to get their hands on one if they keep an eye out. Will be the last big shipment of the fiscal year.

I know people who bought a Switch because they found one and it was rare...people who didn't even want one before it released.

If the Switch wasn't rare, they wouldn't have given it a second glance.

You don't need math to show that under-shipping a product works, if it's the right kind of product. Whether it generates a significant amount of money is much harder to answer, but there can be no doubt it generates some.

The math is critical here.

Undersupplying helps make money in cases like real estate where prices go up. For something with a fixed retail price Undershpping only means money left on the table.

So your example. Person on fence buys. Person who wanted one now misses out. Scalpers know supply is low. Person 2 buys at inflated price from scalper. Has less money to spend on other accessories and games. Or buys later. In which case they spend less now on accessories and games than impulse buyer. Impulse buyer regrets purchase. Buyer 2 buys second hand. By the time buyer 2 can find one, switch has enough games for buyer 1 to consider. Same total switch sold. Where did Nintendo make money? In fact they lost money.

Again math is critical. Is nintendo storing consoles somewhere? Making more consoles has a huge lag and cost.

If it's so obvious and profitable I want to see evidence. Not just forum speculators with no business background providing flawed intuition.

Apparently there's over 500 people in line in Nintendo NYC. I'm number 80-something and got a wristband. Freezing. Hope they start selling them asap.

Wonder how long until regular media starts picking up on the queues and calling Switch the next "Tickle Me Elmo".

New Yorkers got out from underneath the snow thirsty as fuck.

Stock situation in my nearest electronic shop (Finland):

You can basically walk to any shop and pick 'em up.
Yeah smart people would just order it from France and save themselves €80. You can get it at scalpers for cheaper.

Anyone in the new orleans area, there is 5 switches in stock at the best buy in harahan as of 6pm. Locked up in a cage in the video game section. Also, I see one ps vr too!

I wish you guys the best of luck. I got impatient and ordered a gamestop bundle and paid about 50 dollars more for things I don't actually want.

I hope you all manage to get one soon. Zelda is great.

Anybody with more info about the nordic supply chain? (i.e. Bergsala).

Vendors that are sold out in Sweden (Elgiganten, Inet and Dustinhome) have new estimated stock dates in mid-late May.

I'm kinda worried that the available units in Sweden will dry out before my birthday (13/4) and I will have to wait until summer to get one. So i'm wondering if Denmark, Norway and Finland will have to wait as long to get more units?

My amazon switch arrived today. After weeks of visiting Target over and over...it felt good having one arrive straight to my home.

Now, if only it had games to play.

Managed to grab a Pro Controller from Best Buy on Saturday. I checked stock online, saw there was 3 in stock, and immediately ordered it for in-store pick-up. They said their whole (re)stock disappeared in 30 minutes. It's such a nice feeling controller, but I don't have the tiny message on the stick bezel. I guess that was reserved for the first wave?

A friend of mine will be in Japan for the next couple of weeks and offered to get me one. Where should I ask him to go to have the best chance to get it?

I've just been reading on reddit that a few people are reporting their local Best Buys getting stock of Switches. So anyone still looking might want to check yours.

The message isn't on the analog stick bezel. It's printed on the circuit board inside the controller shell. Pull the right stick down and shine a light on it so you can see it.

Don't buy a Switch unless you want your Joycons unresponsive

I see you post a lot on Gaming... you should know better than to spread complete BS. Most don't have a problem. On the slim chance his Joycons do have a problem, Nintendo will fix it for free.

I have not seen an Amazon one yet :(

They were in stock last Friday for a hot minute, and I managed to snag one.

After about 90 minutes with it, I'm whelmed. I spent so much time and effort hunting one of these down? Zelda seems neat, but I hate the stock joypads. They're awful. I'm going to wait until I get a real controller to play it.

Not a huge fan of playing Zelda with the grip (prefer the Pro controller for that). But handheld I actually like the attached Joycons. I guess it's because it feels right for a portable... I find it to be a big improvement over the sticks that have come in every past handheld. I can play on it for hours and not feel hindered.

Decided to check my local Best Buy (central Iowa) on my way home from work after reading this thread and was able to finally pick one up!

Almost walked out of the store without one because the shelves were empty and I didn't want to bug the employees with their umpteenth "Do you have any Switches" of the day, but then I saw a guy buying one at the checkout on my way out and realized they either had them in the back or I just got really unlucky and missed the last one by a few seconds. Fortunately it was the former! Got the second to last one in the store.

Congratulations. That was a close one.

ALWAYS ASK!

I was at a Target once, and they didn't have any on shelves. So I took a casual stroll around the store, came back, and overhear a guy asking the employee about the switch, and she replied "We just sold our last one 10 min ago". It could have been mine!
