That's totally fine, but if you absolutely need the definitive version enough to spend $400 to $500 or whatever....

Let me tell you about this super secret underground thing where you can sell your existing console, and use that money towards the next one.

Again. I think it will be jag with some zen features. Maybe. It's not being manufactured by the same company that's making zen so I doubt it would be.

huh? I thought most people believe it will be a jaguar cpu? like pro?
I don't think that would fall under the blanket of "huge positive surprises" do you?

I agree, it's likely an upclocked jag. Thus my post saying "huge positive surprises" is setting people up for disappointment when 50% of the fanbase on GAF is hoping and betting on Zen or even a $399 price tag.

Whatever is in the console I really wonder how many people will eventually choose to go for Scorpio when it comes to multiplatform games. We know that Phil expects most people to buy the One S, but it should be interesting how many people are gonna choose Scorpio instead over One S and perhaps PS4 Pro as well. Not that it matters all that much, just curious.

I think the price it's the big factor here. I don't see people choice Scorpio over Pro if the price it's too much high and the graphic difference really proportionate.

This is the kind of logic that many people seem to be missing here. Too many posts (serious or joking) about how they just want a beast of a machine regardless of price. Scorpio doesn't exist in a vacuum...

It will be interesting if the Games Pass will be promoted if people are looking to jump on an xbox to give people an instant library who have waiting on xbox.

Regardless of what they give us, at this point how much of a noticeable improvement will there be ? I have never played on 4k, or own a 4k TV so maybe that is the resolution it starts to really matter.

I agree with everything above minus the SSD support. They'll want to sell their version of HDD/SSD to make more coin off of us.

Ps4 pro not ps4. I see to accelerate PS5 coming if Scorpio will gain too much ground in US.

Yeahhhhhh, not gonna happen. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, ofc, but this is nigh impossible given the circumstances. People don't just buy power for the sake of power - thats never been what has driven the console market.

If we are to guess the Xbox One will be $199 by Christmas there is no way MS can justify a $400 gap between the two systems.

Scorpio will be $399.

I've been thinking about that a lot lately! Honestly, Game Pass seems great for both One S and Scorpio. The decision to make Game Pass games a download instead of streaming could equal automatic performance gains on Scorpio.

combine that with EA Access and it can mean big things right out the gate for this new console. I'm still skeptical though. Hoping for the best, but already prepared to be disappointed.

For gaming, downloading > streaming, 100%.

So the enthusiast, potentially premium priced machine is going to gain enough ground on the considerable numbers advantage enjoyed by Sony in the USA to force its next-gen hand?

We'll see...

I should have sold my Day One XB1 when I got my S.

Oh well.

PS4 -> Pro
Xbox One -> S -> Scorpio
Wii -> Switch
5 year old gaming PC- -> high end new PC

In the last 6 months.

I don't have time for any of this. What am I doing...

You're making us all proud is what you're doing!

Zen would be indeed be surprising anything less would be expected no?

Seriously, until now Zen was downright utopic but with the latest tweets things spun out of control so whatever. Still sounds like a waste to me.

DF did a good job with the Pro, but that's when they had actual games to test and do their pixel and FPS counting and whatnot.
Speculation based on numbers only goes so far IMHO

It's not even 50/50...but if they really did it, it's an automatic death for ps4 pro and an acceleration for the PS5 coming. Though it seems really hard to believe.

It's hard to believe because it's a ridiculous statement.

Haven't we learned by now that the mass market cares very little about specs? Price point and popular games, it really is that simple. People have invested in the Sony ecosystem for this gen and from a mass market standpoint it won't change one bit.

Scorpio will sell for existing customers who want to trade up and to hardcore gamers. Just like the Pro did. Slim and S will continue to lead the sales for each console because they are cheaper and play the same games.

Yeah I think people who have built up a library on other platforms or come to xbox fresh with the Scorpio with no library at all could have a tonne of games for the $30 a year for EA access, $10 a month of Game Pass and the free stuff on live and Games With Gold.

having Zen is not the general notion at all. it's pretty much 50/50 shot at this point
You guys misunderstand my post.

We expect upclocked jag CPU, 12gigs of GDDR5, and 6tf gpu at $499+ price point. I think that's closer to the general notion for the more level headed I agree.

But he's tweeting "huge positive surprises for Xbox fans" which in my mind is overhyping the zen hopefuls and maybe even the $399 pricepoint.

An upclocked jag isn't a 'huge positive surprise' is what I'm getting at. Thus my post.

I really don't see how this thing is going to push very many units at retail if the price is expensive. Sitting side-by-side with a < $250 choice that plays the same games, not many people are going to buy the expensive Scorpio. Especially not parents buying one for their kids or their family. It's an adult enthusiast product. Most of the people that care enough about graphical quality to appreciate the system's capabilities would probably build a gaming PC instead. I just don't see anything bigger than a tiny niche for this product.

The sad part is holds true for any price range. Most people are going to feel this way about the Scorpio whether it's $450 or $700. That's not really speculation at all either. It's what's going to happen unless the device happens to have a bunch of surprising, amazing features or games that we haven't considered yet.

It's going to have to be $400 or less to compete.

I think it's gonna be $399 and will be comparable to a PS4 Pro equivalent so not as earth shattering as you all expect.

After all, Microsoft would be dead in the water if they priced this a penny more than $399. The PS4 Pro will likely be $349 or less by the time this launches.

So, if Microsoft thinks they can price the Scorpio above $399 they are nuts.

yes and no
their are people like me, who buy a console specifically for certain game (ie halo and xbox for me)
their are also a lot of people who switch platforms based on performance (look at everyone who switched from xbox 360 to ps4 this gen)

They already support external HDDs and SSDs on the Xbox One.

Unless you mean a swappable internal, which yeah I don't think is likely (although certainly not impossible).

Regardless of what they give us, at this point how much of a noticeable improvement will there be ? I have never played on 4k, or own a 4k TV so maybe that is the resolution it starts to really matter.

Once you start playing at native 4K and go back to 1080p, you'll think to yourself "wow 1080p is a blur." That's how noticeable it is. So I'd advice you to wait for a console where 4k30fps is a norm.

I bought a 4K monitor for my 1080 and my god I can't bare 1080p anymore. I'd rather turn down graphical effects than turn down resolution.

I think Phil Spencer said recently he expects the One S to do bigger numbers for them than the Scorpio, as the Scorpio is aiming for the enthusiast end of the market.

And dont forget that more Ram will lead to better Textures/models etc..

So Scorpio could be a big step above PS4 Pro

You guys realize, that I included a Zen CPU right?

I dont see how they can have a Zen CPU in a console in 2017 and sell it for $399.99......There's also the controller, the UHD drive and many other components that will be packed in. $399.99 with the specs I suggested is not going to happen...Perhaps only if they maintain Jagaur can they offer a $399.99 console.

First of all, PlayStation as a brand has a much larger footing than the XBox does. Second, it was cheaper. Buying a familiar brand that's cheaper and perhaps has better quality in 3rd parties is a no brainer.

Define "a lot of people". For price, yes, but for specs? That number is really really small when we are talking about total sales.
