Prediction time: Xbox Surface, Desktop PC and console, Xbox UI makes full cross over to Windows, and $499 USD.

Why $499 USD? They won't be able to compete with a PS4 Slim at $199USD and PS4 Pro at $299 USD this holiday season. Might as well go big on the hardware and set it apart.

I've yet to see a valid reason as to why DF would lie about detailed hardware specs. The specs are either correct or incorrect. They're not going to get away with making them up. There's likely years of software comparisons involving Scorpio ahead, do you reckon those will those all be falsified too to ensure the truth never gets out? Will developers working with the real specs be prevented from revealing the truth as well?

How deep does this conspiracy go? lol

The root of the problem is not that they are paid or not, it's that we can't know absolutely for sure that DF is being bought. We can only take for granted their prior art; this is also a first for DF.

We'll see on Thursday, but it makes a bad impression on me

How will we see it on Thursday?

I can see where MS is going with this, and on the surface it looks like a good idea, but they seem to constantly forget that everything they do is constantly met with the greatest suspicion of sinister motives. As a result MS and DF should have expected lots of accusations of bias or payola or whatever. MS probably thought "DF is trusted and we think we have a technical winner here, it will be more believable coming from them." and DF thought "This will drive clicks like nobody's business, plus we'd really like to get our hands on Scorpio from a tech-angle". But in the end it's just going to end up hurting DF in some people's eyes and those same people won't believe DF's commentary on Scorpio any more than they would have an MS suit.

Sony fans should be happy about this news if anything. This exclusive and the accompanying distrust it brings will give them ammo to invalidate the results of any head-to-heads that Sony may lose in the months following Scorpio's release.

Seems like certain people are more "concerned" with DF actually saying positive things about Scorpio. Lol. Seems like MS's strategy with giving them the exclusive was the right choice indeed.

That's what it boils down to. The concern is how the Pro will look in comparison. Which ultimately doesn't matter if you're not interested in a Scorpio.

Or you know, buy both?

What if they lie though. What if they lie and my baby Sony is hurt?

I can't stand the thought of it.

Yo:

If you think that Eurogamer / Digital Foundry have such low ethical standards that they'd sacrifice their integrity to promote Scorpio, maybe you never had very high regard for them in the first place.

If you suddenly consider this the turning point where you no longer trust DF, maybe consider whether you liked DF only because their coverage tended to be favorable toward your preferred platform?

Well that's one way to spin this news...

My embody chair arrived early, I'm gonna mix up a London Light sit back and enjoy the evening in style.

OT (for some brevity in this thread!): The London Light looks good! how does it compare to a Negroni? just as bitter?

on topic - I'm looking forward to whatever information is shared on Thursday. Any information on Scorpio will be welcomed!

Nothing different than an exclusive preview of a game. People are REALLY reading into this too deeply, it seems.

Decided to check the thread after getting home from work and yep...some people have gone full tilt batshit.

DF losing credibility because of this is a dimension of stupid I didn't think was possible.

Suggest you just read the article when it comes out. It'll just be a factual piece, and as I said, will include negatives and criticisms as all consoles have compromises.

Please tell me how this is false.

I don't want to interrupt but I did a couple pages back :)

Guys, the accusations of bias are ridiculous. Sony recently teamed up with Digital Foundry to put out some sponsored 4K footage of Horizon: Zero Dawn if I remember correctly. It didn't stop them from pointing out the pros and the cons of that game, though.

If this is a collaboration then the information will likely be massaged by Microsoft, but you really should trust Digital Foundry's integrity -- I'm sure they'll be quick to come out and criticise if necessary.

-----

As for the console itself, I've always been resolute it'll be $399 at launch. I'm starting to waver a little bit at this point, but I still believe it will be that price.

I think if they're going to go higher then they better be damn certain they've got something better than, say, Horizon: Zero Dawn to showcase it, because I honestly don't believe there's a very large console-specific market that's willing to pay $400-plus for the native 4K bullet-point. Especially when you consider that both PS4/Xbox One S will be $199 and the PS4 Pro could potentially go as low as $299 depending how aggressive Sony wants to be, being $400-plus would be crazy -- they'd have to really, really, really demonstrate some serious advantages at that price, and even then I'm not sure how successful they'd be outside of the GAF bubble.

"Instead of sequels to games that will most likely become multiplatform in the future (including Quantum Break, to which they own the IP)...I think MS should take a sample of what made the original XBOX library varied with different genres and exclusives.....

Watch OG XBOX...

They had

Ninja Gaiden (which went multiplat with Sigma and Sigma 2, and then NG3)
ODDWorld (which went multiplat)
DOA3 (which went multiplat with DOA5, and then DOAX3 skipped Xbox entirely)
Splinter Cell (which was always multiplat)

They even had descent ports of Halflife (multiplat), Doom (multiplat) and Unreal championship (where Unreal Tournament was always multiplat)....."
I don't understand your point, the games I pointed out were exclusive games on OG XBX at the time...MS needs some big exclusives across many genres in that same vein, like I specified ..

They need a good slasher game, a good fighter, a good platformer etc only on XBX with Scorpio power to boost the looks of their exclsuives even more.....Just like OG XBX did it.

Also, not only was DOA3 and NG some of the best looking games on XB, they also run at 60fps because of the hardware...If MS comes through with the hardware as they did with OG XBX and it's definitely looking like it, they will need to get some exclusives in different genres to complement the hardware...

As for mentioning Halflife, DOOM, etc... they were very good ports on a console so these titles rounded the OG XBX library really well, not many console gamers played PC games back then, so it was kinda of unique that they were solid ports....which many people played.

Also, the best place to play Splinter Cell was on OG XBX on consoles by a good degree....Though Pandora Tomorrow and DA were pretty decent on PS2...That title was more synonymous with OG XBX, just as MGS2 was synonymous with PS2 and performed better there as well...

I have no problem whatsoever with this Microsoft - DF collaboration to reveal Scorpio's tech.

Seriously looking forward to it.

What happens if DF does not like it ? All tech sites are going to report it. MS would sue their asses - so DF has to thread carefully. Basically, DF *can't* say anything bad about it

Ha what would be the basis of MS suing them? That DF didn't think the specs were correct?

What exactly would be their lawsuit? DF hurt our feelings?

You're talking waffle here man.
