I'm concerned, very concerned. As a viewer of digital foundry, I've enjoyed knowing for the most part that their tech reviews are simply factual. They present the facts, specs and benchmarks from a mostly unbiased view point so yea, it's concerning.

There has always been more.

Phil has always indicated that this is a "premium" console. I don't expect DF to reveal the price, but I don't think this is will be $399. I realistically believe it will be $499 (anything higher will not be competitive).

Wary of what? lol

They are going to cover the hardware. Not software. The hardware is the hardware.

Must be "concern" that DF will say something along the lines of this, "there is a 2.1ghz Jaguar CPU in it, but don't worry it is more than enough for what this box was designed for."

I can see where MS is going with this, and on the surface it looks like a good idea, but they seem to constantly forget that everything they do is constantly met with the greatest suspicion of sinister motives. As a result MS and DF should have expected lots of accusations of bias or payola or whatever. MS probably thought "DF is trusted and we think we have a technical winner here, it will be more believable coming from them." and DF thought "This will drive clicks like nobody's business, plus we'd really like to get our hands on Scorpio from a tech-angle". But in the end it's just going to end up hurting DF in some people's eyes and those same people won't believe DF's commentary on Scorpio any more than they would have an MS suit.

Sony fans should be happy about this news if anything. This exclusive and the accompanying distrust it brings will give them ammo to invalidate the results of any head-to-heads that Sony may lose in the months following Scorpio's release.

MS are either very confident in Scorpio or they paid or restrict DF in some form for this coverage, like no direct comparison with PS4 Pro or something. But I just can't imagine DF putting their reputation on the line for this. I'm sure MS is just really confident. Otherwise they wouldn't have chosen THE hardware outlet to reveal the hardware.

Man would I love it if Crackdown turns out to be the showcase game and not only Forza 7. The wait has been so long for that game. Please be awesome. Wonder if that tweet means we see something from it Thursday.

Gaf is creative if nothing else.

what is there even to be biased about with this reveal? they are literally just talking about specs and maybe showing how certain games perform. What would be the point about lying about any of that when people will quickly call them out ?

it is not like they are doing an editorial review of this thing

The fact that DF is doing this is great for hardcore audience but I personally hope there won't be an exec hovering during the reveal.

Absolutely, because I enjoy nothing more than seeing some of my favorite gaming sites in bed with gaming companies.

Why am I not reading the official PlayStation magazine again? I think they offer a very interesting view on any gaming aspects!

How on Earth is GAF rationalizing being mad about the tech specs being revealed and uncovered by the forefront expert in tech specs? I am beyond confused right now.

Microsoft and Digital Foundry would both be hurt if Digital Foundry lied.

It's not happening. To even suggest it is stupid. The truth would come out at launch.

Exactly people who think df would throw away every thing to lie for MS are trolling or warriors plain and simple. Df built up a ton of creditablity over last 7 years. To throw that away over a little pay off makes 0 sense.

I was wondering with DF didnt have any Scorpio rumor / speculation from overheard developer talk videos after GDC

Good idea on MS parts to bring into the PR strategy.

Should MS apologize asap or immediately lose the fans forever or something along those lines too?

I've not seen such a complete absence of logic in a while. I want to say they're just trolling, but I know they're not. They're serious about DF being sellouts and losing their credibility.

The root of the problem is not that they are paid or not, it's that we can't know absolutely for sure that DF is being bought. We can only take for granted their prior art; this is also a first for DF.

We'll see on Thursday, but it makes a bad impression on me

Seems like certain people are more "concerned" with DF actually saying positive things about Scorpio. Lol. Seems like MS's strategy with giving them the exclusive was the right choice indeed.

Sony fans should be happy that they can engage in psychological warfare over game boxes?

Lol what?

But what would they lie about? Makes no sense..its just specs. There won't be even the price, which could be the only "negative" thing about it if it's idd a beast

Yeah I don't think people are actually thinking that they are going to lie. That's some tin foil shit. It's just human nature to be friendly. If a MS exec is hovering behind you it's not out of the realm of possibility that you would hold back from talking about limitations or deficiencies in the hardware/etc.

In a perfect world sony and ms drop off their new console kits in a mailbox with no strings attached but you have to be silly to not see thats not how this works. In the end this is PR.

I'm really not concerned about future Sony or Nintendo coverage but seeing how DF is ok with being an advertising platform for a console manufacturer or just hardware in general definitely leaves a bad taste in people's mouths.

DF presents themselves as a pure fact driven tech outlet. That doesn't interfere with showing or analyzing any graphics card or console sent by the manufacturer - but the fact that they're acting as a promotion platform makes it look like this:
img_0953pkbi1.jpg

Gaming journalism and the often uncomfortably relationship to video game companies basically - that's a very delicate topic and why we see a bunch of genuinely concerned folks (calm down fanboys DF went from "360 bias" to "PS4 bias" - you go figure).
Spoonful of banhammer will cure what ails ya...
