I just hope they are using at least a watered-down version of Zen, if they couldn't get the full one. A better CPU is a must for consoles.

Hopefully the Scorpio will be beastly and enable more 60fps games.

GeoNeo

I disagree.
I just cant see the silicon die size stretching to a zen cpu and a 6 TF GPU, god that thing would be massive - does anyone know what size it would be at 16 nm in theory ?

I think Zen apu with good GPU component wont come until process shrink is my guess.

Well AMD use GLOBALFOUNDRIES 14nm Process now.

For Zen CCX (Core Complex, 4 cores + L2+L3) total die size you are looking at 44mm2. If they did go Zen + GPU I'd expect more traditional setup unless AMD have an APU ready for Late 2017.

Safe bet is simple Jaguar core + 6TF (+ maybe?) APU.

JaseC

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Puma is just Jaguar on an improved 28nm process with very very minor changes
Just like Jaguar in the consoles

Jaguar = Puma
there is no improvement and difference in the architecture

Yeah, I realise Puma is just a refresh of Jaguar. I didn't mean to suggest otherwise (thus "performance-wise it's identical to Jaguar", the intended implication being that it's based on the same architecture), merely that it's more energy efficient, which it is. Only slightly, sure, but more efficient all the same.

Wouldn't it be better and cheaper with Piledriver CPU at 14nm than zen since its new tech?

Piledriver is trash compared to Zen (Which is AMD's newest microarchitecture) in every way. It's just second gen Bulldozer with better branch prediction and FPU integer scheduling along with a few other things but performance per watt is horrible compared to Zen.

Whatever CPU it use, I'm sure it will get the job done, to make all Xbox game running in 60fps.

Use common sense.

Games with variable framerate will get the framerate boost [to their 30 or 60 limit], games with dynamic resolution will get resolution boost [to their upper res limit]. Load times may be faster.

That's it.

Forgot to write, with a patch.

Power is good but....

think about Destiny 2....We have still PS4 and Xbox One

So games like Destiny 2 will be 30fps on Scorpio and Pro...

I dont know how microsoft will handle this...

So much power, ok, but online games will have same fps with xo / ps4...We wont see 60fps for online for most of games

Hopefully DF confirmed 64 ROPs on the GPU. That could make a big difference for native 4K gaming, combined with the greater bandwidth.

There are online games running at a higher FPS on Pro compared to the regular PS4. I think we'll see more and more games doing this in the future.

I know it's trash compared to Zen but it's still way better than Jaguar and it's probably cheaper to make in a 14nm node than Zen is. Hasn't AMD said no Zen CPU in custom hardware until 2018?

Tom warren the ms reporter says specs only today but that they'd surprise, hold onto your butts gaf.

Do people really expect more? I only expect some specs and benchmarks for existing games and that's fine. If they run existing demanding games at 4K and/or 60 fps, it will be enough for now.
Not everyone, even those who're watching DF understand the differences in specs. So let's take Fallout 4, showing that game off at 4K/60fps is easier than saying it has the latest super duper AMD CPU. (Bethesda always had a good relationship with Microsoft, so it wouldn't be that surprising.)

I have no issue playing games at a lower FPS than others on the same platform within reason. The PC manages it.

Yeah, I agree. I'm on Pro, so I'm less likely to complain about it haha, but as you say. It works fine for PC as a platform. Most people wouldn't even notice, and if you're _hardcore_ you should probably get a Pro / Scorpio anyway.

Well if they were to go with something from the Bulldozer family it would be Excavator which is 4th gen Bulldozer core with many improvements.

& yes it would body the shit out of Jaguar.

Edit: As for custom Zen part + modern AMD GPU setup it's very highly unlikely to happen but if MS & AMD did end up pulling it off the internet will go into melt down..that be fucking mind blowing.

Older games that aren't by MS almost certainly will not be getting a patch. Don't let yourself fall in to the same daft trap PS4Pro fans did, where they were expecting older things like Witcher or Bloodborne to have gotten patches. It didn't happen then, and it probably won't happen now.
