PaRappa the Rapper Remastered |OT| The Notorious D.O.G.

Danny Dudekisser

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I kind of can't believe the problems inherent to the PSP version weren't fixed here. I was looking forward to plunking down the cash for the physical version of this, but now I'm not buying it at all.

Like seriously, the Cheap Cheap song is B.R.O.K.E.N.

Can I get a refund? It simply doesn't work.

My memory of the original on PS1 is that it was the same. You can't follow the visual cues at all, just use the song and actually press slightly before you think you should.

On slickdeals.com in the video game section there's a link to get a free theme in case no one's mentioned that already.

The problem is it's not in sync with the music either. If I'm on beat it says its wrong. I have to go both off-beat and off-visual to get it right.

Yeah it's not in sync with anything

It's definitely closer to the beat than the visual cues, but it's still not exact

I was trying to Cool it earlier and it was just strange. I was able to get it to tick towards Cool several times but then it'd fuck up and drop down

Cool'd the previous 3 with little issues

I remember Cheap Cheap being a problem back when I was a kid as well, but with the additional input lag inherent to modern TVs.. I just can't do it.

9 year old me is laughing at me right now.

So I bought the soundtrack on PSN and it may well be worth it just for the fantastic images alone, which I've uploaded here. Most of them are just close-up screenshots from the game but there's also a good amount of PaRappa 1 art that'll make for great wallpapers.

4th stage was a killer, but I definitely hit a wall there when I was younger too. It all lines up!

Seriously, there's a bit of lag, but once adjusted I can beat every stage without any misses. I have been waiting probably 15 years to own this game and I've very happy to have it now! HD remaster of Um Jammer Lammy plz.

Cheap Cheap was killing me too but once you adjust to feeling the beat instead of trying to see it on the UI, you'll do fine. Crushing stages in COOL mode now.

Gita: I never beat the Cheap Cheap Chicken level when I was 7. And I still can’t beat it now. I passed the controller to my brother for that one.

Chris: Oh God. That’s the one. I was screaming at the chicken yesterday. And 10 years ago I was screaming at my PSP, and 20 years ago I was screaming at a CRT.

Beat it all in one sitting and no repeats. Cheap Cheap was always hard because you need to make PaRappa flow right by pressing a few frames early with the beat. I think PaRappa delivers his lines at a different pace. Also, learn what the left and right button do to spice up your rap.

In the toilet stage when pressing up, is PaRappa supposed to do something with his nails? (Someone listed that he's supposed
to bite them in a trophy forum). I can't get it to trigger. I fucking hate this trophy so damn much and can't find what secret I'm missing. I've been at this for hours.

Have you been selecting everything thru stage select? That might be part of it, idk

I basically just played through all of the levels holding up, only had to redo the first one to get all of the ninja secrets, also stage 6 to get the breakdancing

Caught BaerTaffy streaming this the other night & watched as his usual calm, polite demeanor snapped at the Cheap Cheap level.

It was hilarious- and rewarding when he finally got through it. :D

I never got past the stoner frog dude all those years ago, so everything after that was new to me.

and the reinstatement of the frosty line that was previously censored in the PSP port

I was just watching Kyle Bosman's PaRappa stream, saw that the line was still censored and was like "WTF? But I heard it when I first played the game?" Then I realized I had been playing the EU version since it unlocked a few hours earlier than the NA version. So apparently that version is the TRUE remastered edition.

Hmm...that price seems to be fluctuating like crazy. (This afternoon, it was $25, now $22). Still, it's a better price that all of the Japanese versions on eBay (and ncsx.com) at $35-ish.

Speaking of. To anyone that ordered from Play Asia - did your order ship yet? It seems mine is still preparing...

My order's status was "preparing" for two days. Now it says it will ship in 1-5 days.

Saw people complaining about the end of the Cheap Cheap level and remembered what I used to do to pass those last two lines: extra presses at the end.

Like this:

"Whatever you like's in the mi-mi-middle, fi-fi-fiddle"
"Seafood cake comes just like the ri-ri-riddle"

It seems to be more lenient when you add extra presses, not just here but throughout the whole game.

Still. Can't. Beat. It. Help. Me. Please.

I don't get it. I'm hitting the notes when it tells me to but I feel like I'm playing Russian Roulette where its randomly good or bad.

After reading this thread, I now have Cheap Cheap's song stuck in my head.

"The other day, I was called a little turkey. But I'm a CHICKEN, GOT IT? YA BEEF JERKY!"

I beat Cheep Cheep on the first try. No idea why everyone's having so much trouble.

In fact, I beat the whole game on the first try!

I eventually managed to beat Cheap Cheap by delaying my inputs significantly, which then led to beating the next two songs on the first try using the same method.

Upon playing PaRappa the Rapper Remastered (which I played for the first time and had a blast with), I went to play the sequel. And, I got to say, I love the soundtrack in that game a bit more than the original. (Big, Hair Scare, and Sista Moosesha are my personal favourites.)

Just beat it (skipped all the cuts ends cause I've beat it when it first released...). Having a hard time getting Cool though, only getting it to highlight and not actually getting it.

Also, I went into options and did you know you can play with different music?!

I actually beat the Cheap Cheap song while remaining in Good the whole song for the first time. Changing my inputs to be pressed earlier than I usually do made that song consistent for me now.

However, I encountered a glitch, I think? I can no longer save my replays. The "Try Again" screen shows up at the end of every song, so I can't ever save my data again or save my replays. What happened?

I platinumed the game, so it's not that big of a deal, but I wanted to record some "perfect" runs of the songs so I can go back and listen to them again.

AAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH

Yep, this is refund-worthy. It's absolutely unplayable.

What a mess.

EDIT - Problem solved. The solution? 'Feel the beat' (vibration mode) turned on in options, TV on MUTE (yes really), beat it first try. Better than my 50+ tries with the sound on. Wow.

This feels exactly like playing Parappa when I was a kid, really enjoying it playing the first few stages and then getting to Cheap Cheap and having that feeling that I want to chuck my controller across the room.

The game autosaves your highscores and Cool Mode progress. Also, you can't save replays when you're picking individual songs from stage select and you can only save one replay at a time anyway. If you want to record your perfect runs, hit the share button.

Before I buy this I need to know... does Dred Foxx get a cut?

Yeah, he's getting a cut... A-CUT FROM THE NEXT PARAPPA GAME!

but seriously he sees no money from this.

Haha thanks for the update Camjo-Z. Hearing it especially from you put my mind at ease. Well it's time to chop some onions.

Sooner or later, GAF, Cheap Cheap comes for us all.

You just gotta believe!

(I gamesharked my way past her on the PS1.)

Just got the Platinum.

Don't know how I managed to get the 'Cool' on Cheap Cheap but persistence pays off I guess.

Enjoyable game to revisit having been around at the time it initially came out (the obvious aside).
