Tips for using NeoGAF

Some of us have been on NeoGAF for years and some of us are new. I thought it would be a good thing to point out some things that are helpful or rarely known.

Here's a link to the Terms of Service (TOS)

If you need to message a Mod or Administrator, there is a page showing all online Forum Staff Members. Both this and the TOS are on the front page, but I still see a lot of people surprised about the Forum Staff Members page.

To find posts that quoted you, click on the search button above, enter your username, click show posts, and click GO.

Junior members become full members when they reach around 300 posts and 6 months on the site. Both of these need to be fulfilled to become a regular member.

Tags normally can only be given by Administrators. Begging a Moderator for a tag will usually be fruitless.

Tag begging usually doesn't work.

If you are one of the few that has an avatar changed because you didn't format your uploaded avatar, you can message the forum staff to have it reset. I don't see these too often anymore.

Images:

In general it is proper netiquette to make sure the image you posted isn't too large.

At some point in the last year, I believe, the site received an upgrade that will automatically horizontally scale many oversized images. The image scales based on the size of your web browser.

The usual way of making images smaller, without manually reducing their size in an image editor, was to simply quote the image in your own post. The downside to this is that if you want your image quoted in a reply it won't show up without some additional work from the user replying. To both minimize the image and make it still quotable, you can use the
Code:
tag instead. When composing a post, the [CODE] tag is represented by a # symbol.

I don't know much about Internet Explorer scripts and extensions, so if there is any let me know and I'll add them here

To use these scripts you will need a script addon/extension for your browser. Tamper Monkey or Greasemonkey will do.

Happy to clarify any other functionality questions in here (Note: "I Disagree With The Rules And I'm Mad You Banned Me" is not a functionality question.)

OP forgot the awesome modbot giveaway script....

Somewhere in the options there is setting to auto subscribe to a thread you posted. Turn it on.
Also there is a place to say that you will receive email for subscribed threads. Turn it off.
Now you have a magic place in the subscriptions folder of all threads you are follwing ! Specialy good for the community threads.

Also yeah, community threads exists !
Brazilians, anime, furries, lego makers, figures, watching dragns, becoming drags, LGB people, T people, women, wrestling, the MCU ... everything has a community thread.

This is a great thread. I'm already using these extensions, but everyone should have a chance to experience the beautiful feeling of being able to quick reply.

Another tip:

If for some reason your theme is in that terrible dark theme, just click the little "theme" button on top to switch over to superior light theme.

dark theme has broken once or twice since I have been on here

it's a completely different forum experience with the light theme. no good.
I had to get a dark reader for other sites without dark themes

Switch Back 9

a lot of my threads involve me fucking up somehow. Perhaps I'm a moron?
That hide user thing is going to be amazing. A lot of y'all post really predictable and obnoxious shit.

I don't even like seeing your names!

I became a member after 300 posts and 3 months, not 6....unless this is a trap! Oh no the jig is up!

Oh, and the dark theme seems unnatural after being so used to the light theme from my lurker days.

LOL!

But real tip, if you pay close enough attention most veteran posters will hold back from commenting when a thread is around X99 comments. They don't want their comment buried deep on the page and then immediately put a page back when someone else comments.

Not if you have eye floaters.

These 5 Easy Tricks Will Make You Immune To Bannings.

1- never directly curse someone
2- always give arguments to your points
3- always follow the thread's topic
4- don't make offensive comments against a specific group of people based on prejudices (aka 2)
5- if a thread is making you anger, posting on it will not make you more calm. Turn it off and go watch a movie or play a game

It's 6 months from registration, which is typically 3-4 months from when your account is activated.

But that still doesn't explain why you're a full member. Hahaha.
