COMICS!!! |OT| April 2017 - Now Featuring Superstar Artist Brett Booth - APRIL FOALS!

I just think people are too thin-skinned. Wait until you guys find out Greg Land has been tracing teenagers for some of his art. You'll want him burned at the stake.

Thin skinned implies this is a simple case of having your feelings hurt. Like, "Wah, wah, they are doing something mean to my favouritist!" That's not why I am angry over this kind of bullshit. I'm angry because illustrations like that add it's voice to all the other sexist shit that is out there that reaffirms for people that it is ok to be sexist in real life. It creates a culture. A culture that elects a president that talks about
grabbing women by the pussy.

I know what you're saying, and I don't disagree. But don't go telling me you think the industry is going to change now. At least not with Marvel and DC. They do this shit to cater to people, not because they really believe in it. Those companies are too entrenched in the old ways of thinking whereas companies like Boom and Image approach these things honestly.

Culture changes when enough people stand up and say "This is not ok." It literally changes. It used to be ok to make fun of gay people in 80's movies. You cannot do that anymore because enough people are hip to the fact that it is offensive to dismiss people as caricatures. When enough people understand that these kinds of depictions of women are not ok, that they contribute to a culture that damages women, and also men, it will change. But enough people still stand by and do nothing/get off on sexist crap so it's allowed to slide by. The voices are rising, however. Cho is the last of a dying breed
thank goodness.

I'd be curious to know how you would go about changing it as a person who isn't part of the industry.

By making your displeasure heard? We are fortunate to be in a situation now where the general audience has much greater access to the creators than ever before. Silence is going to be taken as acceptance or maybe even demand. For every dude who bunkers down like Cho, there will be other creators who see a group that does not like this. Maybe younger aspiring creators see this discussion and are able to make more informed choices. What does being dismissive or carrying a "too cool for school" attitude give us?

Then there's the aspect of voting with your money too but that's a whole another discussion of whether that signal even reaches the creators in the current publishing/distributing set up.

Also this.

It just seems to me like people often get very up-in-arms over things that are in the grand scheme, pretty minor. I know I'm guilty of it too at times, but there are much more serious things going on to get mad about.

And it's not like we don't know that Cho is doing these illustrations on purpose to get the very reaction out of people that he does.

Nope. It's not minor. And this is the kind of silliness that says you shouldn't be angry when you stub your toe because of the Syrian refugee crisis. Come on now. We can care about multiple things at once, big and small. Things that directly affect our lives, things happening here and abroad, we are really quite complicated beings capable of many thoughts, feelings and priorities. And it's not minor. Saying it is is exactly how people get away with this stuff. But this shit is an attitude, a viewpoint, a value system placed on women's bodies that has huge ramifications.

Anyone noticed that sometimes Amazon put the whole book in their look inside function? Usually it's like 3 pages but I was just looking at East of West Year 2 and it must be the whole thing.

LOL. yes! Well it's either a) literally the whole book OR b) a helpful preview of the copyright & chapter pages

Secret Empire #0

What's the point of a #0 anyway? Just call it #1

I liked it though, but i wonder what they are going to do in the 9 Issues left. Sure saving the world, but didn't expect all of the things happening in this issue so early. I hope the event isn't stretched over to many issues

Emma Frost is showing up in Blue with Polaris to continue the plot of IvX. Think it's a SE tie-in.
"I'm not gonna talk about what Emma Frost is doing, but it's fabulous. It's gonna be dark, it's gonna be scary, but it's gonna take the character to some cool places."
Sounds like Hydra will put any inhumans in concentration camps. Not nazis, huh?

Then you can sell 2 #1s

I want to commission a drawing of Batman wearing Uggs. Not black, the standard tan ones. Maybe some Ray ban sunglasses and an iwatch too.

I think he should also have some Beats over the cowl.

ERICA.HENDERSON.

I like where this is going.

Don't let your dreams be dreams, lads.

Imagine if they started doing #0.0, #0, and then #1.

Remember when they did #-1 issues back in the 90s?

Kris Anka would be all about that and Ugg boots would be all Bruce would be wearing.

Haha real talk, they give you that much of East Of West because they know you're not going to know what's going on anyway.

Haha too true I'm going to have to read Year one again before getting two

Yea I've just been having a bit of a read up, I had no real idea about this, not sure what I thought it was before. It sounds pretty great! Is there going to be more or it more of a one volume with a point thing?

He did a one-shot last Christmas which was pretty meaty and generally fantastic. Klaus is very much an origin story, so it was great to see him bring in his full Morrisonian toolbox there.

I hope he does them regularly for the holidays, but I'm not sure how it sold.

Marvel did .1s back with fucking NOW 1.0

The first wave of those was awhile before that.

The first one I can think of was the FCBD Avengers issue (I think it was launched at a low price and then repackaged a few months later) that was meant to set up Age of Ultron as the 2012 summer event. That was before they decided they needed to react to the New 52 launch and went with Avengers vs. X-Men instead.

Random aside: I typed vs as bs three times before getting it right. Even my subconscious hates Avengers vs. X-Men.

There have been some interesting tidbits in the Secret Empire panel.
Bob Agent of Hydra showing up in the anthology book is something I didn't even think about.
The fans asked some good questions during the Q&A as well.

Maybe when the 2nd volume of the Spider-Gwen HC comes out Marvel will actually include the crossover story with Silk and Spider-Woman instead of taking it out and not explaining how Gwen lost her powers.

Didn't they release that as a separate book or am I thinking of something else?

That story is basically the size of a HC book so I doubt it.

Would it help help Marvel too visibility group books into different lines and even say as much on the cover.

So books like Spider-man, Luke Cage, and Daredevil , etc would be under Marvel Knights

Guardians, Captain Marvel , and all would be under cosmic.

Then same for Avengers and Xmen.

It's is own separate book but the way Marvel markets their trades they didn't make it clear that it was mandatory to read.

Yea I ran into this myself, kind of frustrating. I just assumed it would be totally self contained. I just went ahead and read vol 2,ill go back and get Spider Women down the line. At least it is a HC, not sure if it's oversized to match the OHC releases though.

Spider-Women doesn't have a HC.

Coming after Generations is "Legacy," a plan to renumber titles with their original series numbers.

An oversized Marvel Legacy special will kick things off. It is written by Jason Aaron with art by Esad Ribic.

"You're gonna see the return of something that has been missing from Marvel for quite some time," said D'Lando. "People are going to lose thir minds."

I called it in regards to Aaron.

EDIT:

http://www.newsarama.com/34197-marv...tion-original-numbering-throwback-extras.html

Announced during the "Marvel's Next Big Thing" panel at Chicago's C2E2 2017 on Saturday, Legacy 's "bold new direction" will begin with an 50-page Marvel Legacy #1 one-shot by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic that will feature "the Earth-shattering return of a beloved Marvel mainstay" (cue Fantastic Four speculation now) and will continue through with the publisher's long-running titles reverting to their original series or "classic legacy" numbering.

”The Marvel Legacy initiative is a celebration of everything that makes Marvel the best in fiction and it's a signifier of a new era for Marvel Comics," said Quesada. ”It's a loving look at the heart of Marvel as we embrace our roots and move enthusiastically forward with all the Marvel characters you know and love starring in the biggest, boldest, best Marvel stories. All of which kicks off with the giant Marvel Legacy special."

While emphasizing the storied past of the Marvel Universe, the publisher is also mixing in newer characters as well.

"From there, the Marvel Legacy initiative spreads out across the Marvel Universe, showcasing epic storylines hearkening back to the glory days of Marvel starring Odinson, Squirrel Girl, Spider-Man, the Avengers, America Chavez, Iron Man, Moon Knight, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, Luke Cage, the X-Men, Captain America, Ms. Marvel, Deadpool, the Champions, Wolverine, Ironheart, Hulk, The Punisher and so many more!"

The publisher said that Legacy will encompass the entire Marvel Universe, promsing "blockbuster new storylines" and its renumbered titles coming with "a renewed sense of hope, wonder, enjoyment and fun!"

Marvel's Legacy initiative expands beyond just the stories and the issue numbers on the front cover, as the publisher plans to revive ancillary elements from its past such as the Marvel Value Stamp, the fan magazine FOOM, and corner box art on covers.

Marvel said to expect information on the titles and their creative teams for both new and continuing series to be announced in the next few months.
I like what I'm reading.
