I will never understand people who believe that it's possible for a great conspiracy to exist that spans 1000's of years through all conflicts and regime changes. Like how? That's not how the human nature works.

Nevermind denying basic things like flight time on a plane, how things look at the actual poles, how wind works and whatever. Their theory would be piss easy to prove by going to the acutal poles, but proving the bullshit you spew with actual research and experiments instead of photos is a step too far for them.

I'd love to see them try to calculate long range ballistics.

So if the earth was flat then does it go on forever or is there an edge? What would happen at the edge anyway is there a wall or do things just fall off into space? If water from the oceans falls over the edge then why don't the oceans run out?

Maybe there are different sects of flat earthers, those who believe in an infinite earth and those who believe it is finite.

Of course the globalist Illuminati conspirators believe that the earth is flat. Why else would they make it a part of their emblem?

You kid, but there are actual people out there who buy into a conspiracy theory that Finland doesn't actually exist. There was a topic either here on GAF or reddit about it a while back, I can't remember.

I kind of love this one. It's so absurd, and the fact that I exist alone disproves it.

You're not actually in Finland. You're in... the Matrix.

i don't have friends who believe flat earth, but many of them deny evolution because religious reason

it's pretty silly but as long as we don't bring that into conversation, it'll be fine

Imagine being an astronaut, or an astronomer. Someone who has dedicated their life to studying our planet and the cosmos, trying to advance our understanding of our world and it's surroundings to better ourselves and prepare for a brighter future. Imagine knowing and understanding the tens of thousands of man hours that go into something like launching a satellite. The incredibly precise calculations that only work because of everything we know about physics. Thousands of years worth of study, constantly changing our understanding of how everything works based on rigorous testing and experimentation by some of the brightest people who have ever lived.

Imagine how you'd feel when ConspiracyDude666 on youtube takes a photo of the horizon with his iPhone and says 'look guys it's flat, it's all fake'. I can't imagine how fucking sad and disappoint that must feel. Seeing your life work (which is based on a millennia of study) dismissed as lies, saying you're being paid off by the government and that gravity isn't even fucking real. It really infuriates me just thinking about it.

This one's great:

Really illustrates how they don't need to offer reasons.

Ugghhh... even when it continies...
In the flat earth community there are several theories as to why this happens. Some attempt to explain this with use of mechanics like electromagnetism, density, or pressure. Others make use of traditional mathematics, such as the infinite plane model, and others a new look at the problem - such as the non-euclidean model.

Density and pressure? How do they explain ping pong balls and bowling balls dropping from the same height and hitting the ground at the same time in a vacuum? Electromagnetism? What in the fuck?
Non-euclidean geometry can only be applicable over large distances. Why? Ohh because space is bent. Why is space bent? Ohh Einstein's general relativity... you know the theory that proposes space is curved due to mass. And you know what the outcome of that is? Ohhh gravity. I guess you can just throw around big words and people will believe you.

Of course the globalist Illuminati conspirators believe that the earth is flat. Why else would they make it a part of their emblem?

This is a nightmare scenario for me. My best friend once told me that he's "not sure" about GMOs, but I successfully helped him turn around. I don't know if I could befriend a flat earther ;( Saying "I think the earth is flat" says so many things beyond what they're actually saying.

FFS, any flat earther just needs to go up the Toronto CN tower rather than space to see the curvature of the earth. Hilarious and sad that this is a belief people actually hold.

My best guess would be by calling you an idiot for saying there are vacuum cleaners big enough that you could drop a bowling ball in them, but idk.

Genuinely believing in a flat Earth seems like it would show a type of thinking that would show up in other places and would frustrate me. Maybe I'm wrong though. Maybe a flat Earther could be nigh indistinguishable from a regular person other than the one asinine belief.

It just baffles me.

maybe you should ask about his life and how it is really going. There are reasons why he is believing rather than being skeptical about all things, the flat earth thing is just a symptom of other things going on in his life.

When I clicked that spoiler "he even says he doesn't believe in gravity"....that was just...no words.

Truth be told, once you get into unified theories, gravity becomes a bit elusive. But it's clear that that's not what they're talking about. The flat earther website says things just fall and that gravity doesn't exist. And yes, that's fucking absurd.

How come Earth is the only supposedly flat planet anyway? These people ever seen like, the other planets through a telescope?

You should have to agree that the earth is round before you are allowed to launch the GPS or Maps app on your phone.

You don't need a plane or a ticket to space, you can prove the earth is round with a fucking STICK.

It's about human ego and self awareness about that ego.

We need to start celebrating when we're wrong, rather than considering being wrong about something or admitting we don't know something a little death. Its more like a little birth.

Confidence is only useful because we as humans respond to it emotionally. In a greater species, confidence would have little social use.

And who made GPS? Scientists. Who do they work for? (((((((((((((((((((((globalists))))))))))))))))))))

Check mate round earthers.

For those of you enjoying this topic that work late night or in a time zone where you can listen 2am-6am Pacific in the States, Coast to Coast is an amazing show as cited here. It has a ton of ads and probably 30-45 min of random filler. Most of the shows are pretty meh. but every once in a while you hit a gold mine. New years prediction shows are amazing and every crazy in the nation calls in at night while the host entertains their crazy.

However, I pay for this shit ($7/mo) just because it makes my drives so much better. I am paying for radio, as much as Netflix. You can listen for free by searching for partner stations with live streams.
http://www.coasttocoastam.com/stations

Topics covered in the past two months
1) A whole in the center of the earth where another earth lies, with another civilization
2) Sea creatures coming up from the underside of the earth that are mysterious and unknown
3)Otter people of Alaska
4) Bigfoot being an alien here to observe humans

and many many more.

Have a listen:

http://www.coasttocoastam.com/shows/2015/05/21

It's like BBC or NPR.

Only run by one guy at dead hours of radio with no filtering of calls and insane amounts of advertising to keep the program afloat.

As for the flat earth folks:

Enjoy their little wiki.

And really up to date pamphlets:

I genuinely wonder if any of them have tried walking to the end of the earth and jumping off

You can't, you will be picked up by the military of the world rulers and disappear. Because they don't wan't you to know that earth is flat. Because beyond flat earth there are bigger secrets. We just don't know which. Rumor has it there is a ladder at the end that leads down to Flat Earth 2 where the super rich enjoy all the benefits they reaped from FE1.

It's certainly possible since where do Earth Quakes come from? Exactly, from downstairs Flat Earth 2 when they frack the bottom of Flat Earth 1.

How can anyone not believe in gravity? What's the mental process that leads a person to reach that conclusion? It's like not believing in water, or the sun. So how come we're not flying around? Magnets? Invisible strings? It's Donquixote Doflamingo secretly controlling the world?

I could be friends with a flat earther. The position makes no logical sense to me but unlike racism or sexism it doesn't really offend me.

I'm not convinced that these flat earthers aren't just trolling anyway. I think they are questioning even basic, commonly agreed upon scientific fact (like gravity and the earth being round) in an attempt to encourage contrarian and 'new' thinking that challenges the establishment.

As long as he doesn't annoy you about it, let him be. Usually my advice is to educate them but flat-earther enthusiasts tend to be way past the point of rational.

I suppose the idea is that those are projections/skyboxes created by the people who are behind the round earth lie.

Gotta invest to sell the lie or you'll have people questioning shit.

I mean, let them be has never worked out. Anti vaxxers were given that benefit too and now we're at the point where nearly eradicated diseases are coming with a vengeance.

Flat earth isn't as dangerous, but it's what happens when you don't aggressively push back against that mindset. One conspiracy leads into the next and soon enough they are firmly in the fluoride in the water to mind control territory.

Flat-Earthers should be labled as mentally ill. There's no possible way a mentally healthy person could believe or think it. He can LITERALLY see the curve of the Earth if he goes up a mountain.

i had a history teacher in my first year of high school who told the class the earth was flat and had us debate with him why it was round. he was kind of a "funny" teacher so I always just assumed it was a weird class exercise to get us talking and thinking about the planet. this was way before "flat earthers" was common knowledge, like over 10 yrs ago. but now days I really wonder whether he was joking or not, he never actually did admit to it being a joke. and from stories I heard he debated this with each new year level.

The guy I'm seeing brought this up to me a while back, and for the first two days I was shocked, pissed, confused, and sad that someone you care about so much could believe something so stupid.

But if I'm being honest, its not a big deal to me anymore. He doesn't bring it up, and anytime I remember he thinks the Earth is flat I just laugh at him in my head because I know he's wrong and I'm right and its funny.

Sorry this happened to you OP :(

Problem is it isn't just a flat vs round technicality. Being a flat earther means the last 500 years is a hoax, it's like the last stop on the conspiracy wagon. You have to believe everything is fake/hoaxed. That satellites are fake, the ISS, flight paths of airplanes fake, moon landings fake,

I honestly don't see how someone describing themselves as a flat earther is any more crazy than someone describing themselves as a (insert random religion here)

If those groups don't bother u then flat earthers shouldn't neither

just my 2 cents

Some of the biggest discoveries in history were made by religious people so that's straight bullshit.
