In regards to names in Splatoon, if you suspect even in the slightest that it's a sea pun then it is definitely a sea pun.
So is the character.
Anyways Splatfest was a really bad game feature because your rewards for playing a really long game session marathon were randomized by factors completely out of your control. And you couldn't like sit down with a group of friends and play that marathon together, or even play normal matches with friends unless you always had 8 people available.
I think I started out playing splatoon with like six friends? And they slowly dropped like flies every time theyd want to play on a weekend and find out the game was like "nah, not today brah"
I ended up playing with one dedicated friend ranked or turf war almost every day for 30 minutes or an hour and change.
But every time Splatfest came up it'd be like, well shit, I have to sleep 8 hours and work eight hours twice in this twenty four hour period.. and if im having bad luck with idiot teammates and my ranked my rank isn't high then I literally have to grind this for four straight hours.. and only get .5x or .75x the reward and identically skilled player gets because of a coin flip..
Splatfest was awful.
Hope their alternate game modes are actually interesting and rewarding (which the part time job Salmon mop up is already showing us they can and will be).

Don't ya just love it when games have moments that blur the line between our reality and theirs? I'll never forget my first of such experiences - being told to check the back of the Metal Gear Solid CD case for Merrill's codec. I spent several hours - over the course of nearly two days - throughly searching for a virtual cd case hidden somewhere in the early parts of the game. It just didn't occurred to me that it was a reference to the actual MGS CD case I owned. That "cross-reality" instance really caught me off guard back then, and yet, I was far too captivated to be upset.
So yeah, it's totally awesome how our last SplatFest event seems to directly affect the story in the this sequel.

I'm going to call New Hope Han - she needs to be convinced to engage the Octarians once again, and comes in with counterharmonies just when the final boss fight is getting overwhelming.

The actual lore in splatoon history. "The waifu war of 2016" that picture with the confederate vs the union north with callie and Marie photoshopped on is now even more accurate
I think it's really clever actually - it's quite a unique way to have the players actions influence the story.
Marie realised that you gotta be a bitch to get anywhere in this world. Callie is the stereotypical version of Superman in waifu form.
Now I want to watch The Callie Marie Show.

As much as I'm hyped for Callie and Marie to return, I REALLY hope there's a duo of Octolings as rivals this time. Or just more stars of that universe that actually make an appearance.

The final Splatfest was Marie vs Callie, and the Marie players prevailed.
It turns out that the stakes were a little more serious than anyone realized.
