Mario Kart 8 Deluxe review thread

The biggest thing about MK8 at launch was that the content was a little lacking which brought down scores a bit. The DLC added a lot of content plus Deluxe is adding even more content and features.

Remember at launch it was purely Mario Kart but now its featuring characters and tracks from Zelda, Animal Crossing and Splatoon. Stuff like that is a huge deal.
I hate to say it, because I'm so incredibly excited for this game, and it's the reason I bought the Switch, but if it was anyone but Nintendo, they'd be getting scored down for being a repackaged game sold at 50 quid. The enhancements aren't that massive.

That's not true. Just check TLoU ps4 scores.

I disagree, a good Battle Mode is a game in itself.
And this looks to be a very good Battle Mode.
Of course if you don't care much for Battle Mode, it will seem like a small addition.

I bought a Switch to play Zelda and sell on... but the fact this exists is making me think up ways to work it into my current budget so I can keep the damn thing.

Playing the PP Tetris demo yesterday with my friend proved just how much fun co-op on the go with the Switch is going to be. I'm not sure I want to give that up.

Yeah, same here.

If they nail the Battle Mode (and based on reviews/impressions, it sounds like they did)... flawless victory.

I know it's getting old, but as long as they won't give us a stock mode for Balloon Battle and Block Fort, it simply cannot be the best one.

I'm still hoping that a small, but vocal crowd will bring Nintendo to patch it in,if only for local MP or private lobbies.

I only wish they gave us 12 or 16 battle maps instead of 8. Proportional to the varied battle modes and race tracks, it feels like so little.

Still looks like a fantastic update overall though. Can't wait for Friday.

Bull. Have you looked at remasters of other great games from other publishers?

A great game made better by enhancements and 50% more content than its original release is not insignificant.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.

What do you base this off of? Other remastered games have been scoring excellently if the package provided is strong.

Yo it's almost like games should be judged on their own merits and not scored based on a hypothetical situation regarding assumptions by the review's author about whether their audience previously played the game on another platform.

As evidenced by the thread, there are still tons of folks who haven't played MK8, so this edition should be judged fairly based on that point alone. Not to mention, all new connectivity and MP options warrant a revisit for most experienced players.

i cant speak for the other games, but TLOU:Re is a bad example because it adds a very similar amount of content yet stays the same score, where as MK8D jumped 6 points. i'm not saying mk8d doesnt deserve it's current score, but something is weird

Mario Kart 8 adds a ton of tone to the base game. The DLC alone scored higher than the base game.

A big reason may be the fact that you can take this one anywhere you want. I dunno if I'd add 6 points for that, but it is a pretty slick perk compared to the Wii U version.

• All DLC Tracks essentially made the Wii U version a $72 game and the original reviews don't figure that into the score. The Switch version comes with all that content already.

• MK8 Wii U might as well not have had Battle Mode. That alone is worth 6 points IMO. For a lot of people that's a significant chunk of their MK experience.

People still not understanding the power of being able to play this game anywhere and cooperatively at that. This makes every remaster/port on the Switch unique. The additions along with it being portable is enough to add +6 to the score.

Fatality.

Explain why?
I would assume the difference is one is a modern console game barely a few years old, but where I've seen it happen before its a much older game with just a new lick of Paint over it?

Like FFXII now people are questioning the value of the game being full priced, regardless of the quality of the game.

Im not saying Mario Kart is the exception and that's why I'm right. I'm saying I'm wrong because the examples I'd seen were entirely different situations.

maybe MK8 was severely underrated at launch and people are overcompensating?

Didn't nearly all the content in TLOU Remastered already come to the PS3 version outside of the graphical update and an extra difficulty mode?

My friend had a question if he could have 3 people playing local co-op and invite me to play via internet with them. I want to say yes, but I'm not sure. Anyone have any idea on this?

GameXplain compared the loading times between Switch Digital, Switch Physical, Wii U Digital and Wii U Physical.

Digital version justified! Gonna pull my SD card too so it installs on the system's storage.

Give me a breakdown, at work.

4 second difference in getting to the start screen between Switch Digital and Phsyical, edge going to digital.
3 second difference in getting to the start of the race between Switch Digital and Phsyical, edge going to digital.

Also a vast difference between the Wii U and Switch version.

I'm loving this so much. It's just everything I loved about MK8 but better and more of it and portable. Probably played around 90 minutes already. I especially love the Shine Thief mode!

I'm confused. Just because a game is re-released for a new platform with extra content means that it should automatically be a budget release?

Also "anyone but Nintendo" rhetoric is getting really stale. It was hilarious with Zelda but now it's just depressing.
