Call of Duty: WWII (PC/PS4/XB1, Nov 3) Info: Campaign, Zombies, MP, Trailer, More

If they are going to go through with it, I can only imagine that they're already bracing themselves for the potentially massive blowback. So many ways to treat something like poorly, precious few ways to do it properly, and either direction will lead to controversy.

At the same time I think it's important that they try. Gaming has really changed since the earlier WWII CODs, and whatever your side on the argument whether it's okay to make a 'fun' game on the back of a horrific event, I think these games shouldn't ignore the holocaust, in its narrative at least.

This turns my stomach. Just flat out the most offensive game I've ever seen.

I can name family members that died in this conflict, wept at the pictures and accounts of the dead and maimed that experienced this hell, was taught all the horrors of it from primary school, through my whole life, it's only ever been a symbol of the folly of war, the worst, most black and shameful era of European and American history. I've been to the actual battlefields and mass graves across Europe, held the minutes silence without fail every rememberence day my entire life, for as long as I could understand the meaning of it.

There was no glory in this war. No thrilling action or daring do, no heroes and villains, this was mass murder, a scar on the history of our species, and every single person involved in it was a victim.

This trailer, the entire concept of this game, makes me feel physically sick, and just so fucking angry.

How fucking dare anyone make a game like this about the Second World War.

I don't know what's worse, the sick fucking emotionless, greedy cunts that would seriously exploit this horror of an industrialised massacre, or the ignorant, soulless bastards that will give them money and enjoy it.

Anyone involved in this, or seriously think of buying this, should be ashamed of themselves.
Seriously dude it's a fucking game. If you go by your line of thinking no war game or movie should had been made, as any war is cruelty as it best, wherever it is.

They really could just do a mission where you stumble upon it. It would really need to be an OH FUCK moment

Am 100% down for a return to WW2, but that trailer didn't do anything for me.

Will wait for some actual decent length gameplay videos, because quick cross-cuts of face tech and explosions aren't enough to unleash my hype.

Yeah it was very typically FPS trying to be serious or emotional but it just comes off as trying to be cool or "badass"

I dont expect much else, but I hope the campaign is just raw and doesnt try to be too "bro military"

I honestly don't know a developer currently working who could tackle the Holocaust. I mean, I'm not saying games shouldn't try to go there but it's sort of a "if you aim for the top, don't miss" thing.

Was getting caught part of your plan?
Hoping it's a meme but if not y'all should be more angry at the US government doing real damage denying the Holocaust than some dumb wartime video game selling you an MP40 skin

Naughty Dog I guess, because they handle certain things with more care than most developers could or do.

This is exactly why games need to go there.

It's still a piece of art they shouldn't be afraid to tackle it. This is WWII and to omit that especially in light of the US's current administration remarks about the holocaust people should be exposed in some way.

Can you imagine walking in such a camp and seeing this?

Warning NSFW real dead bodies.

Holy shit if they really go through with this then MW2's No Russian mission would be nothing compared to this.

I doubt they'd actually go that far. I think a lot of writers and developers might be a bit too scared to touch that subject.

Buchenwald is probably the most famous concentration camp that was liberated by the Americans during the war. Not only did they have the main camp, but Buchenwald also had satellite camps throughout the country where they forced people to work and build. Those that were too weak to do any of that were sent to a euthanasia camp, which I'm sure you can figure out what happened next.

What's more interesting about Buchenwald is that as the US began its approach towards the camp the Germans began to evacuate prisoners to one of the numerous satellite camps. In response to their eventual liberation, thousands of the prisoners stormed the the guards and took control of the camp.

Like I said, though, most studios are too scared.

So much info and absolutely no details on what the game would play like.

Hoping the lack of health regen means tight and challenging FPS combat.

I don't think cod is the right franchise to even try.

Oh I get it now! This is a parody of a very similar post that someone made about his dead great-grandfather or something when Battlefield 1 was revealed as being a First World War game!

Auschwitz and the other extermination camps, which were all in modern day Poland, were far worse than the concentration camps the Western Allies would have confronted in West Germany. Don't get me wrong, concentration camps were terrible themselves; they had ovens and mass graves and exterminated many, many people, but not on the massive scale of the extermination camps.

The only concentration camp I've personally visited is Dachau, which is in Munich, and it was terrible enough. I can't even imagine the horror of Auschwitz.

Aye, although for Call of Duty of all things to acknowledge camps of that scale in ANY capacity is one hell of a departure from what I think we've all come to expect from this series. It's definitely a welcome surprise, from the point of view of how you want any WW2 experience to be handled. And it's super interesting to see a videogame tackle aspects of the war beyond America vs Nazi shoot-bang.

As for Auschwitz, it's the most fascinating thing I've ever experienced, for want of a better word. Impossible to describe in many ways.

Wait it is? That's awesome!

Yeah. It was why when they announced they were going to work on Call of Duty back in 2011, I was pretty disappointed.

I hope that they do something interesting with their zombies, and not just copy paste the formula treyarch made.

I hope it does enough to distinct itself from Zombies and is its own thing. It probably wishful thinking, but I actually would like a linear co-op type thing like Left for Dead or Extinction from Ghosts.
I think that's what they're implying. I hope so. I love Nazi Zombies so a different but solid take is worth a shot.

Yeah I know "video game" and all that but I'm not terribly keen on having the landing beach as a social hub for friends to meet and get rewarded.

Press F if you agree.

HBO's Band of Brothers handled it well. And there is historical fact to it, but it remains to be seen how loosely Sledgehammer plays with those facts. With a historian helping to guide them, I hope they haven't overdone it and stick to real-life accounts of what the Western Allies encountered.

I hope they play it as straight and seriously as they can, more so. I recently watched a terrible documentary about the Holocaust by Bullet and this is stuff that should shock and educate. I'm on the fence if it should be in a game, but if it is then it needs to avoid any glossing over, they have a responsibility to not brush over the facts. Again how this can be done I don't know. A very sensitive subject.

The campaign primarily focuses on the European theater and follows the actions of a U.S. 1st Infantry Division squad from the perspective of rookie private Ronald “Red” Daniels as they fight from France, through Belgium, and into Germany between 1944 to 1945. You will play as other characters during the campaign.

I'm now contractually forced to buy that game.
