Prey Demo: Opening Hour Thread: Everything is Going to Be OK

I thought it was implied that Morgan was willing in that experiment though...

How our brother reacts to mimick being out, how he wants it cleaned up, wants to know if our Morgan is taken care of AND still has us reset to same day again instead of restoring our memories... If our Morgan is willing for that we craycray

Gave the demo a second chance when I wasn't playing in the middle of the night and tired. Took my time and took in the environent a bit more. I'm feeling a bit more positive about it. If the input lag is addressed I could enjoy myself with the full game.

I'm still weary of the only antagonists being these typhon aliens. It's just not as interesting as more humanoid characters who's abilities I better understand.

Game is also much more enjoyable with music set to 10 or 20.

You know, I was leaning towards not feeling it earlier, but then I put almost three hours into a "first hour" demo, so I think that's more of a sign of the game's quality than any issues I had with the music or combat

That or immersive-sim Stockholm syndrome. I'm ashamed to admit that I played through Invisible War multiple times. :/

Speculation but the description of the stun gun/disruptor says something like
more effective against humans but still can stun aliens, so I imagine human enemies will come up later in the game

Fighting them headcrabs with all that input lag is a bitch. Otherwise the atmosphere, music and pace of the game is excellent. Probably the closest we'll get to an Alien: Isolation sequel.

In terms of realism, sure. A lot of games looked better than Dishonored 1, Dishonored 2, and Prey, if that's your measure.

But I don't think Arkane has gone for that in any of their games. And realism is far from the only thing that counts in looking "better" visually

Nah, on xbox one the graphics are shit. Low resolution, blurry, texture pop ins, Barely any AA

What? It has nothing to do with realism. Dishonored 2 is just as stylized if not more and it looks wayyyyyy better than Prey. I'm playing on Pro too.

I found it to be kinda meh. Some cool graphics, neat premise, but damn I just can't wander dark hallways trying to whack small enemies with a slow wrench attack in a FPS anymore. Just done with that, even if it lasts 10 minutes.

Really interested/concerned how the PC version is going to turn out. I know the issues in this demo have been acknowledged and possibly already taken care of but with some of these recent releases, especially dishonored 2 (diff team I know), it is making me a little wary.

Still haven't played dishonored 2 because of the technical issues and that was one of my most anticipated titles of last year.

Has there been any word, official or otherwise, about this games performance for PC?

Same...I missed the shotgun the first time around heh so I gave it another go and everything felt better...not panic swinging at the Mimics helped also lol...winded up playing for 1 and a half hour trying to find/do extra stuff...

Horribly clunky controls (on PS4) made looting/interacting with the environment a pain in the ass, but if they could fix that, there seems to be an enjoyable game beneath.

Yea, that was the worst part. It doesn't help that the reticle has to be right over the object to interact. I felt like I was having to really concentrate to interact with an object and it shouldn't be that intensive. It's really weird considering it feels so damn smooth and easy in D2.

Other than fighting the small mimic enemies and the overly loud music i really liked the demo. The level design is really good which isn't suprising since dishonoured had the same thing and the game world seems really cool as well.Seems like it could be an 8 to perhaps 8.5 kinda game which is more than good enough for me to buy.

Okay, I... really enjoyed that. I'm not one for horror as a rule, so my one issue is whether or not they keep leaning on jump scares later on, but the writing is solid, the central mystery is intriguing, and I adore the environment design. Only real mechanical issue is that yes, the aim is... well, it's annoying. Would probably be better with a mouse, feels like it's really brutally unforgiving. Also, making your first gun the Gloo was probably a mistake, since it's pretty useless, and even harder to hit with than the wrench (which actually isn't so bad; you gotta stay mobile and use the short taps, but you can get stuff done).

I am seeing that I apparently missed a bunch of stuff, which is actually pretty cool! I'd assumed that once I ran into that
firey dude in the trauma center that the whole rest of the demo was like that and I'd need to buy the full game to get access to the areas with the decent weapons,
but apparently not. That's dope.

Looking at all the complaints about the mimics being too agile and hard to hit makes me think that even though Arkane presented the Gloo gun next to a frozen mimic, players thought it was a cool feature of the gun rather than being necessary for enemies.Slowing mimics down with the gun and then smashing away with the crowbar makes these encounters a lot less frustrating, and the gun having such a large capacity means you really shouldn't run into any ammunition issues even if you spray. Flailing away at the mimics is not the way to deal with them, but I know as a player it's frustrating to be told you're not playing the game the way it is meant to be played.

I enjoyed the demo quite a bit and am excited to see how it opens up when more skills are unlocked, but the decision to start us off fresh with no skills was a bad decision that will easily turn off players players who are not aware of how progression in this genre works. Dealing with the enemies in Prey felt unfair early on, and it was only once I started to unlock more abilities that I was able to comfortably get the upper hand (played on Hard).

Overall I believe many of the complaints about combat will diminish when players have more options of their own choosing available to them, rather than being forced to use the Gloo gun/wrench like we have to early on.

They are swearing it won't be a Dishonored 2 situation, so we'll see. I think a general rule of thumb for any Bethesda published title is to expect some issues, but I would be shocked if the PC version of this game is particularly bad given that problems with D2, and them using CryEngine for this instead.

Just finished the Demo on Xbox One. I thought it was pretty good overall, spent 2 and a half hours in it exploring everything I could. I never really encountered the "steaming data" bug that NX Gamer pointed out during his PS4/Xbox One Analysis, but I was also playing from a 1TB 7200 RPM external hard drive.

I may have bought the game at launch, but I have a bit of a backlog of games at the moment. So will definitely wait on a sale for this one.

Probably the most input lag I've experienced in a long time. Really made it uncomfortable to play. Hopefully the pc version doesn't have this issue

Finished it on Xbox and I really enjoyed it! I didn't run into much of the input delay that you guys are talking about and certainly doesn't run into any bugs. The only bummer is that the graphics on Xbox were fine, but really soft. Like the crispness is gone. Other than that I'm super interested!

You can turn the music down.

The more I think about it the more upset I am that I refuse to play a game because of music from Mick Gordan. I mean I loved the doom soundtrack so hard but prey literally gives me a headache when the combat kicks in. It's heartbreaking to me.

I mean if it's that bad just turn the music off.

But for your sake and others (and maybe even mine), I've said this before but I'll say it again just incase devs are watching; I hope they include a combat music slider separate from all the other music in the full release. Clearly even if they fix the audio mixing and combat music sync with enemies, that's not going to appease everybody. There's a lot of ambient music/sounds and pleasant riffs (like when you pick up a new gun or do an objective) that can be missed out on by having it all on the music slider and turning that down/muting it just because of combat.

Really liked this demo, I've player the first one at the time but didn't read anything about this one (not because I didn't want to but I wasn't interested).

The atmosphere is incredible, really liked how they made the introduction twist although it was a little expected (but I guess it was supposed to be).

I did not find the answer here, but is the end of the demo made clear in game or is it only the end when you see a door closed in game ?

Basically you can fool around in the main lobby after a certain point, but you can't progress thru to the next story mission as yeah, it's labeled on a door accordingly

I just played around some more with the physics as well as the recycler/fabricator systems-- I found 3 blueprints total

Thanks, that's what I thought.
It's actually a great idea since there is still some other stuff to do and other parts to explore that I would probably never see if there was just an end demo credits at this door.

Yeah, other than the valid input lag/audio issues, it's honestly a fucking brilliant demo and hearkens back to the good ol' demo/shareware days of yore (^___^)

Hell, I played the System Shock 2 and Deus Ex demos for HOURS

I played the demo on the PS4 Pro(anyone know if it supports pro or will have it at launch/patched in?).

I dig the overall look and feel....it's giving me Half Life vibes and the Gaben look alike at the beginning...hahaha.

However as others have mentioned, Bethesda needs to tighten up the UI/controls. It seemed sloppy/jitterly/not accurate when getting prompted to turn on a light or pick something up.

Will be waiting for a ton of impressions and fellow reviews before I even consider a purchase as there's a ton of games in both my PS4 Pro/PC library to keep me busy right now.

Man i could not shoot a mimic with the pistol for the life of me on ps4. It's not a git gud issue either as I've been pretty damn good at other fps games. Other then that the movement feels slow AF. Just not a fun game at all imo but with pretty damn good atmosphere.

You played System Shock 3 and Half-Life 3?

How was the future? Do we get to stab our needles into the eye to get better abilities? :D
No I mean that this game tries to be Half Life 3 in its place. Instead of being Prey, I'm in a sequel to other games. To enjoy this game, I would have to be wishing I was playing something else.

Prey 2017 has nothing to do with OG Prey. It's a reimagining of the series. Nothing more

The only thing both games share together are space and aliens as enemies. And the title

What does this even mean? Just enjoy the game for what it is.

Seems fun as long as the input lag is fixed. My only other concern is enemy variety. Lots of mimics in this early area and then I saw
1 larger mimic that looked like a human.

Just played for an hour and a half.

Great atmosphere/vibe. Really dug the intro. And yo, that tune during the helicopter flight is great.

I really like the menus, but a few of the in-game UI elements clash with both themselves and the overall aesthetic, in my opinion.

Speaking of, art design and whatnot is great, but man, its aping of Bioshock is a bit too on the nose sometimes.

As for the mechanics, yeah, they're rough. This is definitely one of Gaf's more justified lynchings.

It's a shame, because nailing shots/hits actually has decent feedback and feels satisfying enough; it's just near impossible to do so (intentionally, anyhow), which is more or less due to the mentioned-ad-nauseam weird acceleration and crippling latency – and this is coming from someone who absolutely adores how vanilla Killzone 2 controls and could land headshots like nobody's business. It definitely doesn't feel like "weightiness as a stylistic choice" and more or less cannibalises enjoyment as it stands.

Another thing that I feel is anti-fun and a poor design choice is the movement speed, which is just way too slow. It's especially excruciating to endure when you want to move backwards, which is often, given the "gankiness" of the mimics and a natural desire to back out of a space when the danger appears in front. I know there are Neuromods to improve this, but this is akin to saying, "just pump some stats into ADP" for Dark Souls 2. It just feels awful and shouldn't be the baseline given the encounter design they seem to have gone with.

Anyway, I enjoyed it, but it was exhausting for all the wrong reasons. It's frustrating, because there's a really cool game waiting to be played underneath all the mediocre controls. Let's hope their promises to fix things don't just amount to minor tweaks to what is fundamentally an irreparably broken control model.

That's a Phantom. The aliens you're fighting are called Typhon

Anyways, anyone tried dropping food in front of a Mimic in their mimicked state? I've read it helps in revealing them.

It sounds like
morgan agreed to have her memory reset but she was supposed to get brought back to speed between neuromod removals but instead Alex made her live out the same day over and over again for some odd ball reason, at lest that's why I gather from the video

The demo does not have support for Pro.
The game is having the PS4 input lag patched around release.
PC version should run fine being Cryengine based.

I fail to see how Prey is anything like Half-Life.

I mean, they're both from the first person perspective.

That's the only connection I can make.

So by that logic, is this trying to be a Halo sequel? Is this trying to be a Call of Duty sequel?

Really strange comparison there buddy.

I was really looking forward to this game so I'm really bummed out at how bad the demo is considering all the hype before demo. I really couldn't get into the slow start. Didn't even finish the demo before deleting it. It felt off. And the pace was horrible. I was so bored.
