I know we're all cringing at how awful this is, but can we at least acknowledge the silver lining?

For perhaps the first time, both SJW's and people that can't stand SJW's are looking at this thing with a total wtf face. It might be the only time anyone is united in saying, yeah, that shit is pretty fucked.

I for one welcome the temporary cease fire this dumpster fire is bringing about.

Sure, but it also gives ammo to people.

"Yeah, look at that dumbass, Bill Nye. He only has a bachelors in engineering and he's trying to talk about climate change and GMO's."

Granted these people were probably already lost. It's just that he's kinda making things worse with this garbage show.

I saw Bill Nye at the supermarket last month. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Okay, just don't forget he's a scientist and has a history of successfully sharing scientific interest, even if not everything he does has entertained you, or he "rubs you the wrong way" as a person.

This kind of dismissal sounds like the kind of shit that started appearing in a thread about Neil Degrasse Tyson when he said something stupid on twitter.

i thought i was wrong to hear the horrible title of this show and jump to conclusions. i can't believe it but all my worst fears were right. if Netflix wants to pander to bitter liberals they are going to have to give them a little more credit than this.

What's up is that there's this Neo-Nazi/Alt-Right plot to discredit Bill Nye because his new show is not strictly gender essentialist and they see him as a threat, so they're spreading around this video out of context along with copypasta and claims he's a bad person or not a real science expert to try to discredit him. The "op" was all over Reddit and 4chan recently.

You can accept the fundamental premise of the thing while also believing it was poorly-produced and not funny.

You could find dozens of posts exactly like that with any number of different public figures substituted for Bill Nye. People just post stupid shit all the time there.

Regardless, while yes the alt-right has latched onto this video, that's as a reaction to what is pretty clearly an awkward, forced and frankly "cringe" video (even to those who agree with it). It's not some grand conspiracy. This thing was poorly conceived and literally played right into the alt-right's bullshit portrayal of "This is what liberals want." The people who made this fucked up.

I can't determine whether this is intended to be a super weak taunt to "the other side" about gender politics or if it's preaching to the choir while treating said choir like they're embarassing idiots.

It would have been mildly funny if it was overproduced but this has virtually no choreography, the music is shit, the lyrics are garbage and she can't sing. It's basically a social experiment on the audience to see if they can tolerate it.

And they NEVER go through with it at /pol. Except all the times they do. Look, there's a lot of glee out there about spreading this around and smearing Nye with everything from the not a real scientist label to pedo accusations to redpill liberals. That has to be considered as part of the conversation.

If/when we're asking ourselves whether to believe a report that Bill Nye is a pedophile, I'll consider it.

When we're talking about a video we can all watch and form our own opinions on, and which sucks ass, it's really not too relevant.

Does it? No one here is accusing Nye of anything. His new show just seems to be pretty cringey
