I'm happy for people who vape that want to cut down on nicotine and cigarettes by doing so. What I'm not happy about is some vapists who choose to do so while walking in front of me, very close to building entryways, and inside enclosed spaces like public transit.

Do vaping communities (online, in shops, etc.) not try to self police this? It's incredibly annoying to get a blast of Froot Loops vape when I didn't want an invite in the first place.

It's a pretty bizarre line of thinking. I guess some people think since it apparently doesn't cause cancer it's okay to blow it in people's faces now.

Eh, I have no issue with people vaping in the same way or places they used to smoke. Never smoked in my life. Hate the stench of cigarettes.

It's getting cracked down on slowly though and it probably won't be long before it's treated exactly the same, something I think is mistake myself.

Does seem to be a thing unfortunately. For me personally I think the same rules should apply to vaping as Smoking.

Is there any actual scientific evidence behind vaping causing cancer and more importantly second hand vape causing serious health risk to other people?

I am genuinely curious. I vaped for about 6 months but it was a means to an end to stop smoking and i only ever did it out back on my property or in my car i could never bring myself to do it walking around in public

I've heard people say that second hand vaping doesn't affect anyone, but it's at least safe to say it's not nearly as unsafe as second hand smoking.

http://www.popsci.com/ask-us-anything-secondhand-vaping-harmful-your-health

A small but disturbing study published last summer found that vaping indoors--even in a well-ventilated room--releases ultrafine particles and potentially carcinogenic hydrocarbons into the air. “Our data confirm that e-cigarettes are not emission-free,” the authors wrote. Still, studies of exhaled vapor find that such emissions turn up at concentrations so low they may not pose much of a health risk to bystanders (or vapers)

Edit: But yeah, it's not excuse for blowing shit in people's faces. That's just a dick move.

I've never personally had this happen though.

I don't mind it. But I guess I see how it could be annoying. Some of the vaps produce large plumes of vapor.

I mean, even if it's completely safe, it's rude and gross to just be blowing it into people's faces.

Last night, I was outside, having some ice cream, and this huge waft of vape smoke just engulfed the area. It was disgusting.

I'm not even concerned with any possible health risks, I just think it's rude. People who vape in close proximity to others are basically in the same camp as people who wear heaps and heaps of perfume, IMO.

Overly sweet smelling vape stuff is pretty off putting, to me at least.

I'm a smoker that has been trying to cut down and quit through vaping and I can't bring myself to do it in public at all thanks to vape culture. I have a simple pen like vape that doesn't blow sick white clouds that reek of cotton candy.

I completely agree i was just curious if any new studies have came out because i have friends who vape a ton and act like it's 100% harmless and i find that impossible to believe.

I went out of my way to not vape around people in public because like you i think it's a gross disgusting asshole thing to do.

See, you guys are Keeping It Real. Thank you.

To be honest, I've found that the people who vape without considering their surroundings are the same people that smoked without considering their surroundings.

Personally, I try to take my surroundings into account and even try not to vape visibly around children as parents may not want their children to see it (I also think some may think it's cool due to the design of the devices).

I don't think there's anything wrong with vaping in and of itself. But I definitely don't think that anyone should start vaping because they think it's cool.

Some people are such assholes.
If you have a vape machine that produces a TON of smoke don't blow it into peoples faces or surrounding areas. These people deserve to have their space.

really stinky perfumed vaping bothers me but less so than smoke. however when i discovered the vaping olympics is a real thing i was kind of amazed. it's like a steam engine explosion at a hot topic.

Well, yeah. It was basically stuff that was inhaled into someone's body, then expelled from that person's body. While it is stretching it a bit, I always imagine it being like someone burping and blowing it into peoples faces... no, don't do that.

I've seen a lot of younger twenty-somethings vape in public, blowing plumes of smoke while in crowds like they are the hottest shit around. Fuck em!

I feel like every time I see someone doing this in public, the same thing happens. I look at the ridiculous thing in their hand, I look them in the face, they look away in shame, and then I reflexively make a some sort of half eye roll combined with a stifled smirk.

I swear the majority of people who use these things have already judged themselves.

Does the occasional wiff of a snell you dont like, in public, bothers you this much? Kind of weird to me.

Vaping looks silly, so it's a funny target, i get it, but still, not that different than passing someone wearing shitty cologne or after shave.

The way I see it, if you got a problem, say something.
When I vape I try to be conscious of my surroundings and try not to blow it in people's faces. I don't vape indoors unless the person that owns the place does or I'd they are smoking cigarettes.

Um I don't vape on public transit. So yeah say something

No one ever said anything to you yet about you rolling their eyes at them huh?

I once had someone walk into the shop I work at, come right up to the counter, ask a question then blow the biggest vape I've seen right there.

"It's not illegal"

So besides the fucking point, the guy acted like he was doing on purpose because he could and forgot his manners. In another reality I'd have kicked his mouth but that's actually illegal so....:/

You mean like breathing air? Imagine if you could see everyone else's breath when you are in a crowded place and rebreathing it back in. I don't know how some of you ever leave the house

I think I'll go around burping into people's lungs. No harm done, right?

I think you mean breathing on people. Guess what you already do that.

It seems like this is where peoples disgust comes from. Like does it really bother you to get a little hint of watermelon? Doubt it, you smell 100 worse things a day. But now you can actually see other people's breath you are breathing in. Nevermind you would be doing the same thing without the vape. Now you can just visualize the ickyness. (and no I don't vape)

Why is it the public's responsibility to enforce common courtesy?

As a smoker I'm already fully aware of the unwritten zoning rules when it comes to people who don't smoke. Blowing smoke at or around people in public - non-smokers I mean - is just fucked. Vaping is fine if the person isn't being rude and invading others' space. It's just the weird sub-culture I don't get.

I really don't get why this is an issue at all... If health risks are involved I absolutely get it but as is I genuinely don't. Some people are just way too bothered by everything everyone else does.

Because most people are not bothered by it? Maybe it's different in NA, but in London vaping is pretty commonplace indoors and I've never heard or know of a single person complaining about it, ever. I don't vape, btw.
If it's a situation where you wouldn't smoke, you shouldn't vape. It's that simple.

As someone who dislikes second hand smoke, I am absolutely fine with vapor and actually enjoy the smell it leaves in the air so I'd say this is far from simple.

Cant be worse than the smell of alcoholics on mass transit. Give me a bus full of fruit loop vapers over that anyday

I vape out in the open when I'm sure I'm not bothering anyone else (and even then I vape rarely)

but I know some real jackasses who vape and I've had to keep them from busting that shit out inside of grocery stores and movie theaters, like what the fuck? have some respect for other people

Some dude at work who has the same lunch time as me is always outside as I go to the shop basically sitting in these giant strawberry vape clouds right bu the door.

Its disgusting.

Regular vapers I am OK with but I am seeing a lot more "supercharged" ones in public.

Movie theaters I see the issue with because of visibility but otherwise I really don't...

Yeah a lot of people need to chill about shit that doesn't affect them or anyone else and stop being so whiny. They don't even know why this bothers them. It's not logical, like with the stench and health risks of cigarettes. It's just icky to them because now they know they are breathing someone else's breath. In small enclosed spaces and places that visibility is a concern I can see the problem.

I just don't want them to do it indoors. I had a dude sitting next to me in a movie theater who vaped the whole time.

If I vaped I would only do it in places where I used to smoke, outside, in public areas where smoking is allowed, generally as far away from other people as I can (away from entrances / not smoking it if there's people walking by etc.)

I just feel like its common sense courtesy?

Why is it disgusting, though? Is it the smell? If so does it bother you too when people wear perfume?

Yeah, vaping is annoying. It should be obvious.

I quit smoking without vaping too, so I have no sympathy for people who fall back to that crutch to try to justify doing it around people. Buy some nicotine gum for situations where you're indoors and have a craving. Problem solved.
